I totally agree. You can't hardly find the greats from way back when on tv all that often. You tube has made this possible for us every day. Very thankful fan from Texas here.
@@bryanmagness9489 Me, too. I'm 54 & grew up listening to real country music back in the 70s & 80s as well. I prefer Don's version of 'Amanda' over Waylon Jennings any day, although it seems like stations such as WMAQ in Chicago always played Waylon's version more.
A really, really great show. Noticed the copyright for this show was 1979, a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then. I thought Don Williams put on a very entertaining show. Can never get enough of him. Started listening to him in 1973 and still listen to him now. Thanks for posting this great video. Now could someone tell me how to save it so I can enjoy it later.
Don Williams was never accused of being verbose. That, as much as anything was responsible for DJs not pushing his music. They hated his reticence to speak. We, his fans loved that he'd rather sing than talk. Don, unlike some in the music business wasn't et up with himself. Strangely he had reason to be, most of his peers not so much.
I like some of Don Williams' output, including a few songs also sung by Waylon Jennings. But I *love* the various Sugars who sang with Dave Rowland from 1976 (the year of my birth) to 1981. For the parts of this show spotlighting D&S, jump to 4:08, 11:56 & 18:54.

One of the reasons why I truly appreciate RUclips is for treasures such as this.

Their versions were six years apart. They didn’t run concurrently.

Greatest show. This country music all about. I enjoy these songs. I listen grow up on radio. In 1970s thank you.
I was listening to country when most of my peers were into the likes of Led Zeppelin.
Don williams it was the best and one of the greatest country singers of all the time
Don was rocking the bell bottoms like a boss!

I've been a fan of Don Williams since he was with the Pozo-Seco Singers here in Corpus Christi, Texas back in the 60's.

Lisa Alvey from Paducah, Ky., was one of the later Sugars.

Steel guitar noticeably missing from the D&S band.
Rest in Peace,
"Gentle Giant" Don Williams 🎸
&
Dave Rowland 🎶
WATCHING Sept 2020
During THE PANDEMIC
Love Don Williams
My dad had been such a fan he had an autographed copy of Dave and Sugar's record signed by both "Sugars" as Sugar.
This act was country’s answer to Tony Orlando and Dawn. Would be curious as to whether the two acts ever performed on one show.
Fantastic
I forgot how big Dave Rowland’s hair was.
What else do u need to say
