Been on that self cancel edge myself not once but multiple times. Now thinking back, i'm glad i didn't do it. It was over the breakup with my girlfriend after i got cheated on. And i would NEVER go back to that time EVER again! Damn, this was the darkest era in my life. I wouldn't wish this shit on my greatest enemy.
If anyone's having thoughts like this then please reconsider! There are solutions!

Thank you for reacting to this song. Help is available for anyone who needs it.

No it isn't. And tbh, I mean it well, but claiming help is available to everyone is really disrespectful to people who are struggling, who tire of life, or who unalived themselves. You think none of us searched for help? Please, please, do not say this to a suicidal person. You'll be pushing them further into the deep, believe me. I've been there, and I've heard it.
Sometimes it's best to stay silent my dude. Sometimes there is no single message you can share which can give hope; and in some situations trying to be positive is actually offensive. Sometimes all there is, is pain, suffering and death. Sometimes all that rests us to do, is to mourn. That too, is life.

Gotta love this band. They wear their heart on their sleeve and mean everything that they say. Many of their songs deal with challenging subjects such as: addiction, making celebrities out of serial killers, dealing with facial deformity and the war mongering mass media - to name a few, and all of them with mighty chugging power riffs. I suspect you know their anthemic 'Down with the sickness' so checkout 'The Vengeful One' as it both amusing and deadly serious - genius.

I have loved this band since they first came out!! I cry every time I see this video but I can’t put it on my playlist. They’re such a phenomenal band and literally have a powerful message for the most part. My favorite album is Believe well worth a listen 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯

I really like the part where you talked about deciding. No one, not even my head, can decide for me. The way I live is simple. "I'll f***ing decide." Not the easiest path, but it works for me. There ain't no quit in me!

I've listen to the album many time, but I'm more of a music listener than lyrics, which is one of the reasons why I love to listen to your analysis of songs I know & love: I had no idea what the song was about.... no hey-ho at the end of this one 😉
This was a hard topic, if you want to follow the same topic, but with a MUCH happier ending, do an analysis on Make It Stop (September's Children) from Rise Against!

If you hear him speak of this song, it's about a girlfriend he had as a teenager. They got into substance abuse together, and he broke away to save himself; she (apparently purposefully) overdosed in a bathroom. He experienced survivor's guilt to a tremendous degree. The original intended ending to the video was the expected outcome of putting the firearm in his mouth, but they drew the line at the ending being that graphic and left him in the mental institution. I hope I remembered all the details correctly, but I think David, the whole band, are such emotional people that this really reflected the aftermath of his own experience. Great song dissection. I love Disturbed!

It also touches on religious judgment. She will go to hell for the way she died. David touched on a lot of angles on this one, that’s why it’s my favorite song of theirs 💜 Edit oh and he also felt bad because of her childhood and how it led her to not want to be clean.

What David did was put out the very real side of what happens to the people you leave behind.
It creates a hellish nightmare for them that often lasts for the rest of their life and can often lead to their own battle with suicide.
During my own battle in my teenage years I said to myself that people would be better off without me. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Wow and thank you for this. I have heard this song countless and really only ever focused on the music part and never really paid attention to the music. And with MTV for the most part abandoning videos I have never see the video despite having this album since it was released. I was just as gob smacked by the video as you were. I am the perfect example of hearing but never really listening to a song.

The song is about a girl he dated in his early teens. She was an addict and he broke up with her because she refused to get clean. She ended up taking her own life and her parents blamed him. He also had nightmares about the devil telling him that she was burning in hell and that he should take his own life to join her.

I'm just thankful that this 'suicide-related content' had so many tags, flags, warnings, and disclaimers.... Cuz the best way to help someone realize that suicide is NOT okay is to require them to click "OK" several times before they watch a vid like this.

Hi Rosalie. Thank you for your content, sincerely. 5:52 I feel like this song as two edges, both cutting deeply. The loss of someone you know who struggled and lost their will to keep fighting their inner demons. As if that isn’t bad enough, we then have religious leaders telling grieving survivors that their loved one is damned to hell because of this absurd and Puritanical idea of self-murder. Now in their minds their lost beloved is burning in a mythological lake of fire. Insult to injury.
This crazy idea isn’t addressed enough, not only the suicidal prevention part, but dealing with an aftermath that is then bludgeoned by religious idiocy.
Bram Stoker used this brilliantly when he wrote and created Dracula. The Count loved his wife so much that upon hearing from the priests that his wife was damned, determined he would rather spend an eternity in hell with his beloved than go to a sanctimonious heaven that would deny his wife’s soul.
Sorry for the long comment. I’m told I write too much and say too little.
I’ll shut up and watch the rest of your reaction now. 😂😂 5:52

As a Christian, I've struggled with the suicide issue especially after my attempts 5 years ago. I haven't found the answers, but I am coming to believe that God knows the pain in our hearts. None of us are perfect. I know Christians who have committed suicide. I don't believe they have been 'sent to hell' because God knows our pain. Jesus was human for 30+ years, so He knows. No matter what the answer is, I do know that the decisions between heaven and hell are left to God, and religious people who are Pharisee-minded in their false Christianity are playing God when they make that statement. Mental health is just as much as an illness as physical ailments. I've been outspoken about how mental illness is dismissed by the church as demon possession or oppression or pray it and claim it that God will heal it. I believe God can, but again His ways are not my ways. What we should do is love people including those who are thinking or have thought su1cide is the answer. Love you Rosalie.

As powerful at evocing emotions as the visuals are. As rocking as the instrumentation is. The best part is the message in the lyrics. I was raised in a religion at teaches that not only did Jesus Christ take the full punishment for all sins of everyone, which gives him the ability to assign punishment or rewards based on obedience to his teachings and commandments, but Jesus Christ also felt all the mental and physical pains, and understands better than anyone else why people make their decisions. That means a child taught to commit crimes before they can even talk, with no one else to teach them right from wrong, who dies as a teenager while committing a crime, Jesus Christ can give grace based on their knowledge, and give punishment on the parents, based on what they should have taught their child.

Hmmm. I don't experience anxiety. Ever. And the thought of suicide is just....unbelievable to me. I literally can't imagine. But this song does affect me deeply. It's a glimpse into a dark world that is slightly beyond me. It makes me think. I believe it enhances my own sense of empathy and compassion for my fellow apes. Maybe not the point of the song,. but...how much does it cost to sincerely reach out to the people you love? Maybe it's something I should do more of. We all could, I guess. You just don't know, do you? If my checking in makes the difference....isn't that worth a shot? And even if not, at least I tried. I dunno. Makes me think.

Never got into shock rock or death metal music. I'm just not that angry. Rush's, The Pass, is also about suicide but done in a way that leaves a much deeper impression because it explores different perspectives without trying to shock the listener. The Pass is an accessible song and it doesn't let the person contemplating suicide off the hook either. This song loses me right out of the gate. Other bands doing suicide songs are also better than this one, IMO. But if this somehow helps a person back off the ledge then it is a very worthy song and what I think of it is utterly irrelevant.
