    One of the odd part about the prediction-suggestion episodes that end up being largely realised is that it really shouldn't be that surprising. Your predictions especially are usually just sensible good ideas that are reasonably achievable within the momentum of the medium, and I mean that as a compliment. Anyone who is paid a massive wage and back-end to manage the biggest movie franchises in the world should be expected to come up with concepts at LEAST this good, and that they keep falling vastly short says a great deal about how much they deserve that money.

      I think that’s why Bob includes the disclaimer of “this is a pitch I came up with, independent of budget issues, actor schedules, studio meddling, etc.” because all those things can contribute the problems we see in modern film. All it takes is one executive going “I don’t want to portray Reed as a dick” and this whole pitch goes out the window. “I don’t want to redo captain America. Make them from the modern age.” Or “set it fully in 60’s and have them launched to the future at the end” and now you gotta write a whole new concept.

    I can not agree more about Doctor Doom(doubly so for Galactus). He is the threat you build to, not the throw away villain you feed to the team right out of the gate. The question the screen writers need to ask themselves is,"Who is the biggest threat to the team after Doctor Doom?". The answer is Galactus, but again you have to build to that. If they use Doctor Doom and Galactus too early the studios will be asking us to take Paste Pot Pete seriously. I...I just can't do that.

    You're not the only person I watch who pitches the occasional movie plot. Fandom used to have a blast with "Movie Fights" and giving pie in the sky story ideas for films. Since the entertainment strike is likely to slow down much of entertainment news, I'd say, when you think the time is right for content. Go for it! Your FF MCU pitch is really compelling and there are plenty of other characters you could apply your semi-useless comicbook knowledge to propping up good comic ideas that just need a little polish. Oh, and thank you for this trip down memory lane. You're still one of my favorite of all time YT media critics.

      But no one really cares anymore. No one's demanding you show your vaccination cards. Hardly anyone is wearing masks anymore. And these days if you're seen out wearing one, you'd be less seen as being cautious and more seen as being paranoid. I’ve always felt that the FF: 1) should be from the 1960s of the timeline that Cap went to to stay with Peggy - thus history unfolds differently; 2) other than Cap and possibly Submariner, they are the first modern “superheroes” - but much more in the Doc Savage/Jonny Quest adventurer vein; and 3) it should be a period piece in the alt-1960s - riffing off all the 60s style and aesthetic along with whatever Tomorrowland vibes you can put in.
    Two movies in that timeline; Doom is villain for number 2; Kang eliminates it at the end of number 2; number 3 is set on Battleworld or in mainline MCU.

    She sometimes has some good content but also sometimes has some weird and bad takes. Really the only reason I watch her content is cause she does have some insiders and knows how to talk about movie ratings and box office numbers, unlike a lot of Internet movie channels (who call bombs successes or successful films bombs, cause they don't understand box office numbers, normallyan babies wanting something to be a success or failure and spinning it that way). If you're wondering which 6 they are, it's Winter Soldier's Mid credit, Age Of Ultron, Infinity War, No Way Home's midcredit, and then depending on if you count the variants of Kang as a different person, both Quantumania credit scenes. If Kang counts as all his variants then the number is actually 4.
    That's something I like about the MCU. They use the credit scenes to set up the future, but most of the time they do it with context from the film you just watched.

    If they ever do Puppetmaster, it would be a missed opportunity not to reimagine his “acceptable” face as someone who is essentially cloning heroes (and later we find, villains) with technology, as an effort to replace them all with AI.
    Sure, it’s a bit on the nose, but it’s super topical. The F4 have a set of powers that don’t exist in the MCU currently, so that’s why he’s interested. The F4 can beat him and his puppets because of the value and creativity of real people and real teams.

    If they do go in the time travel from the past direction (or even if they don't but especially if they do), there is one thing I'd really want them to, though they probably won't: make Johnny gay. Even aside from getting more queer representation in the MCU (which we despatately need), it would give his character an interesting arc for the first movie. You would have someone who has had to stay in the closet his whole life because he came from an era where being queer was much, much more stigmatized and dangerous than it is today, to a world where it's far more accepted and he can finally be himself, though he would still be trepidatious about it at first. And of course we would be able to go into how the other three would deal with it. Personally, I see Sue being supportive of her brother, especially since she would have figured it out years ago, Ben wouldn't really understand it but would be alright with Johnny doing what makes him happy. And Reed, the most old fashioned one, would be the one to have a problem with it and think that it's wrong, and he would have to overcome that bigotry by the end of the movie. And like I said, I know they're probably not going to go in that direction, but it would be so awesome if they did. Plus, it would piss off the chuds, so that's always fun too.

    I think a pitch on an X-Men D+ series or film series would be quite interesting. And we seem to have years until they get to it.
    I'm just curious if they'll stick to the typical X-Men trapping at this point, or just say "fuck it" and start them on Krakoa. using that as the excuse to why X-Men just haven't been in the mainstream hero-beat for over a decade. They got themselves into hiding, erased their identities from the map, and have been living in relative peace. Only thing that fucks it up is, oh, I don't know, a big giant dude frozen in the ocean and their living Island just happens to get too close to it while it's being checked out by Captain America's new team or something.

    Bob, can we get that PSA as a separate video? I need to make links to it much too regularly.
    I loved your pitch when it was first released, and I think that the only change it needs is what Reed is trying to do to undo things. He's not trying to recreate the experiment that gave them their powers. Instead he's trying to recreate Tony Stark's time travel tech to go back and fix not just his family, but everything he sees as "wrong" with the modern world. Thematically, the moment when he gives up on "fixing things" to go help his family in the now would be so much more powerful.

      Probably wouldn't be a face to face on screen interaction, but I could see them doing a one-off gag when the FF are catching up on what happened since they were gone, and a shot of Captain America induces even more confusion about what year it is. Same vibe as the spider-man gag where Cap appearing in the gym class PSA video tape is bookended by "I'm pretty sure he's a criminal now"

    Yeah, can't help noticing that little jab Bob took at Kang, at 15:25-15:44, which he would also criticize the Defenders for, and you can't really blame him for that. After all, regardless of just how much potential they're bringing MCU Kang to the table with, it really does seem like a lot of people just aren't all that interested in him...and it's not hard to see why. Because the simple fact of the matter is, unless we're talking Doctor Doom...or quite possibly, Galactus...anyone who tried to follow Thanos as the MCU's new Big Bad was ALWAYS going to be a step down on the podium, no matter HOW well he was written. Adding to that, the fact that Kang, historically, has always been a C-List villain, at best, REALLY doesn't help his case any, either. And Marvel's smart enough to know that forcing the issue, if no one really wants him there, is not a wise thing to do. So, with that in mind, it might make doing a Fantastic Four movie right even MORE important.
    At least, that's just my thinking on it.

    • @JamesRoyceDawson
      @JamesRoyceDawson Год назад

      Agreed, and I would add that from a character perspective, he’s just not very interesting. He just wants to Conquer as his name implies. No nuance, no “maybe he has a point”. He can be acted as well as you like but that just isn’t very compelling.

    • @TuxedAaron
      @TuxedAaron Год назад

      @@JamesRoyceDawson Well,. again, "Loki" introduced him as having this whole boatload of potential, having him just bury the needle on the "creep-o-meter" and possibly utilizing the whole "time travel" conceit in ways we may not have seen employed before (at least by Kang himself). But at the end of the day, he's still just being played up as one of those "mad scientist" types, who's underappreciated by the rest of the world and overappreciated in his own mind. Hell, I remember Bob's review of "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania", and how he outlined that Scott was pretty much the only member of the Avengers that Kang would be able to manipulate the way he did, or be a challenge to defeat, because Steve would have been his usual righteuous, unflappable self, Kang's personality would have just bounced right off of Tony's whole "too cool for the room" routine, and Bruce and Thor would have just punched him really hard. So...yeah.

    My favorite episodes of In Bob We Trust are the ones about how to fix upcoming movies, like a proposed TERMINATOR reboot that sounds better than the last 2 we had, and a 3rd "Escape From..." movie that basically answers the question "What If Snake Pliskin lived in the same world as Judge Dredd?" Check 'em out.
    If Marvel's eyeballing Bb's pitch about how to put the F4 into the MCU, maybe they'll also look at his pitch about bringing in the X-Men. Don't let them steal it, Bob! CHARGE them for it!
