This video is absolutely so helpful. You explaining the needs for coilovers and lowering springs in a simple sentence then getting in depth is actual so helpful. This car is my first build and car im modding and the stress between buying coilovers or lowering springs has been crazy. You really gave me a lot on insight on both and realizing I am not racing my daily driver and don't need camber at all really helps out because now I don't need to spend those extra hundreds or thousands of dollars on something I don't need. My mazda 3 had lowering springs on the stock shocks when i bought it and it was the most spungy ride ever cause the shocks were on their way out. I eneded up getting a second hand pair of rs-r's pretty cheap and now it rides stiff but amazing. And also thanks for the amazing content and the coilover instal video!
There’s a misconception here. Ride quality on coilovers is NOT based on spring rates. It’s based on the quality of the valves in the shock. Most mid tier coilovers like BC all use a mediocre valve. “You get what you pay for”. High end coilovers can have high quality internal valves where you can put any spring rate and the car still feels amazing on the streets. You can’t put any spring rate you want on cheaper coilovers because the valves are cheap resulting in bad ride quality and the smaller the shock the less stroke with cheap valves make it even worse.
I think the lower spring is good option if the stock shock is good and newer condition. Otherwise getting new shocks and lowering springs will add overall price. I add up cost of HR springs + new KYB shocks and total price is about $1K not including shipping or tax. if I pay another $500, then I can get set of KW springs for around $1.5K
@@ColtonRichter Not sure you remembered, but you recommended a set KW and Koni to me last time for my Mazda 3. I wasn’t sure if a KW set is worth for base 1st Mazda 3. But I might be getting a Speed 3 soon! And the KW seems to make more sense for the Speed 3 😂

I was thinking of doing lowering springs. However im gonna use Bilstein B8 performance shocks. They're ment lowering springs. Lol however itll be a minute before I do that. I got a lot of other repairs I need to do to my car. Im tryna fix my check engine light right now and of course my state inspection is due this month.
Question what about a lowering spring (Eibach, H&R, Corksport) just to name a few on like a Koni STR.T Orange non-adjustable shocks or the Koni Sport Yellow shocks with adjustable damping for a suspension setup?? I know you’ll probably be spending between $500-$900 US. For this type of setup but you don’t want to buy coilovers when you’ll most likely be spending the same amount of money!! Would this setup do any wonders with using a lowering spring? I do know that both of these Koni shocks are best when using lowering springs.. Please lmk if you or known anyone who has run this kind of suspension setup. Because I’m highly interested in this kind of setup plus some upgraded sway bars to run some bigger wheels 17’s or 18’s on my 2011 Mazda3 sedan to have a little bit more of a better ride handling over coilovers and to just be a little bit lower in ride hight
I alot of people use these for tracking cars, like I mentioned in the video the spring / shock combo can give you the ultimate comfort with lowering springs

My plan is to just go with lowering springs & some Koni shocks and upgraded sway bays for some better handling, lower ride height 1-2”, maybe little less body roll, run some 18x8.5 +35 offset 225/40 tires, CorkSport Catback exhaust, OEM side skirts with some mud flaps, already have a drop-in K&N filter witch is fine enough for me, upgraded stereo system. Maybe some Braum reclining seats, & a duckbill wing. Nothing too crazy or overdone as it’s going to be my daily for at least another couple years and save up for a clean & unmodified 2nd gen Speed3 with lower then 100k miles and build that one and use coilovers

Went with tien springs (thanks again for the install) and an after market shock/strut set up and am really happy with the results.

I have the OEM Mazdaspeed dealer springs and camber arms on my 2008 Speed3 and they're a perfect height for me. I'm not about that low life

Get some KYB struts they are JPs so they are quality if you decide to get springs.

Lowering springs better run with heavy duty dampers rather than factory shocks
