I remember the time when me and my brothers borrowed my mother's phone, and there was a demo of the Rayman Raving Rabbids game, it was like a level long or with a timer ? I don't remember... but we loved it, and my brother, wanted to continue the game, and he accidently bought it... needless to say that my mother got angry at us
The "scrapped material" from the Rayman Raving Rabbids mobile trailer is actually not scrapped at all. The footage from the trailer comes from a different version of the game designed for phones with a small screen resolution. It took me forever to find this version on the internet back in the day but I eventually found it and I still got it's java file today. I can PM you this version if you like.
Vivendi Universal were also players in the early mobile games market, I hope you consider doing a video about their many Crash and Spyro endeavours. I have heard some of their mobile adaptations of the legend of Spyro and Crash of Titans games were pretty decent.
I remember playing the J2ME version of Rayman Raving Rabbids back when it came out and it did had those two sections that you showed as missing (the pig and the pirate hat). From my memories of j2me games they usually had like 10 different versions each so finding the better version of the bunch can be hard, especially nowadays. The main reason I remember that game is because of how much of a Sonic clone it was.
Dang, I'd like to find a version of that one. Largest I found was 380kb. That one didn't have them. I hope the JAR was leaked at some point, because I haven't found it.
I looked around old sites and some of my old files but I wasn't able to find it either, I still have my HDD from back then so there's still a chance that the file is in there but I wouldn't hold my breath. I was planning to put together my old hardware into one functioning PC to salvage those files anyway so I might do that this weekend, I'll let you know if I find the game.
@@FrameRater Play version of Raving Rabbits for 176x220, this one should have the cut content. No I am not joking, the version for the smaller screen has more content.
Wait a second.....Rayman thophy in smash WIIU....mario & rabbids kingdom battle on switch....smash ultimate coming soon.. That means... *POOH FOR SMASH ULTIMATE!!!*
I am very happy that the J2ME emulator is working great on android now. Modern mobile games all just want you to wait and spend cash, so playing old but actual games are actually refreshing. I really like all the DOOM and Wolfenstein RPGs, and i have fond memories on the java time crisis and the silent hill game (story sucks) was actually creepy and scary.
I remember searching Amazon a long time ago for Rayman games and I saw the Winnie The Pooh/Rayman 3 game and I just sat there thinking: "Who's idea was this?!"
I played raving rabbids on my mother's phone when I was younger and I loved it. Today I actually found out its name and I am so happy to remember all the memories. 😢😢
I really enjoy all of the rayman raving rabbids games besides ubisoft was trying something new with rayman also the rabbids are so funny and adorable I'm really glad that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a great crossover game.
Lmao I actually had that Winnie the Pooh & Rayman cart when I was a kid, from what I remember that Pooh game was an isometric styled game that wasn't that good.
I wish I could try these games but my dad used to have a Samsung A177 but it couldn’t connect to the modern internet to use the shop and it was thrown away in the trash, it’s probably in the dumps. Oof, and i was born at the time iPhones were slowly getting more popular.
the only good thing that came out of the rabbids was making them playable in tmnt smash up. they came in 3 different varients (splinter, raving and ninja), and they all were more than just the same character with a skin swap, they all had their own move sets (splinter rabid for example is based off of sam fissure from ubisoft's own splinter cell games).
Rayman 3 and Kart were always my favourites when i couldn't bring my GBA or DS on school or other locations and bring some fun memories back even if looking back at them through myself and your video they have aged pretty poorly like all the mobile games from the 2000's.
I don't know if this is a false memory but I recall playing rayman for symbian OS on my Nokia 3650 ( it might have been the ngage version but it still worked)
the physical release of rayman bowling on the n-gage isn't actually "physical"....nor "for the n-gage". it was sold only in the uk, in the same plastic case as the n-gage games, but only contained a download code and a manual. the download code was for a specific version of the game (symbian s60 at 176x208pixels) that worked on a few nokia models (most notably, yes, the n-gage). there was also a version for rayman golf if i'm not mistaken.
They were some hell of good games on Java Mobile, my very first introduction to Final Fantasy was on that platform. And boy, I farmed the hell out of FF1 on my phone, it was just the perfect formula, every time I had a few minutes to kill, I'd grind some mobs, or explore a little. I loved that version so much when I switched phones, I bougth it again to restart a game ! I also remember some smart tactics game like Advance Wars, but it was based on the Transformers IP, there were some really good arcade games like crazy tetris that had 10 different gameplay variants and great aesthetics, I remember playing Worms MULTIPLAYER, as it was a turn based game, you'd give the phone to your friends and each play your turn. We had a hell of fun honestly. Some gameloft games were good, but some were the same formula slapped over a licence, I precisely remember the "9 levels formulas", each game at the time, be it Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, movie games like Need for Speed, Tron at the time, etc all had 1 intro, 7 levels that had 2 varied gameplays, often one side scrolled, and the second a vehicule phase, and the level 9 was the boss fight. I think the Rayman games were no exception and I bet they're 9 level based too. If you digged you could find some amazing arcade games that were actually smart, and some good NES / GBA games.
Rayman Raving Rabbids on mobile is like what is supposed to be on PC (Rayman 4) in plot and gameplay. While many Gameloft did copy Sonic mechanics like Shrek, Crash Bandicoot.. I like Gameloft games so I don't mind, but it lacked "original" unique style
my cell phone also had J2ME ports of Castlevania (stops at end of level 2 for some reason as a "demo"), Megaman 2 and 3 (also stop prematurely as "demo"s), and Final Fantasy 1 and 2. They were... ok... but definately duplicates of original source material...
"Why is Rayman even here?!" I think everyone themselves asked that at the time about TV Party at the time in general. It's pretty much a rabbid game starring Rayman. No surprise he was gone in go home, he barely existed in TV Party and even Raving Rabbids 2
We can't be too hard on these games since using a phone made it impossible to play anything complex they designed. Thanks for showcasing these though, I always wanted to learn more about them. They look alright. 👍
@FrameRater I found footage of one of those DiGiBombs playing Rayman 3 in poor quality, you should hunt one down just to see how Rayman 3 is like on there. The Wikipedia link is on the Spanish site, and this may mean that the device was mainly distributed in a Spanish area, I don't know.
I remember loving lots of j2me games back in the day, but Gameloft were never synonymous with "quality". If you really wanted good quality games, Fish Labs was the way to go.
I used to play Prince of Persia The Two Thrones and Splinter Cell Double Agent on my old Nokia phone back in the day. Short games, but I enjoyed playing through them nonetheless.
I remember the Rayman 2 port on iPhone, and I still have it on a red iPod Touch. It doesn’t save, so I’m unsure if I have the full version or the demo, but it’s still cool to have it!
I know right why does people give Ubisoft a benefit of the doubt why are we putting hate on these fictional video game creatures were as Ubisoft were the one doing more harm and don’t get me started how Ubisoft ruined most of their other mayor franchises
There exists a mobile Rayman game on an obscure MITSUBISHI PHONE!!! The most elusive Rayman game in history, as there's only a single screenshot to exist.
According to link, it's just a Rayman-themed puzzler. It was pre-installed on the Mitsubishi phones (yes), along with the aforementioned bowling game, but on a very tiny screen. raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Rayman_Garden
Digiblast was a handheld console by nikko eroupe released in 2003 only in eroupe it was a failure due to the success of the ds but also you can find a gba for much less expensive than back in 2001 It was discontinued by either 2005 or 2007.
These J2me games are fun. You could download a bunch of them and just throw them on your phone via Bluetooth. I played Super Street Fighter two on my Motorola RAZR 2. We play a bunch of shit NES, and these were about as good, so diamond in the roughs are even better.
1:57 "You wouldn't find someone purchasing a phone to play some mobile games" Funnily enough, I was so very restricted in playing games when I was young on a few hours on set days that I ended up wishing for one (and I eventually got one) JUST TO PLAY GAMES without my parents noticing. 10:26 The irony that Gameloft would later make or port Sonic mobile games.
PNY? Paris/New-York Technologies. Also Mario Kart are HANDHELD games. Rayman Kart is on MOBILE. There's a difference. The former refers to dedicated gaming devices, the latter to shitty phones that are held down by horrible J2ME performance. That it might have been the best of its kind on MOBILE is potentially not wrong. J2ME games were almost universally horrible, and weren't considered 'good' time-wasters even back then. The only more or less good games were puzzle games (e.g. Bobby Carrot) and maybe DOOM RPG.
Sometimes These games costs you weekly or monthly fees. And sometimes they have suprising things. Did you know that XIII Got a follow up called XIII 2? It was only released on mobile devices at the time.

“Don’t do this, you’re better than that” is one of my favorite lines in a video game review
So nice to see someone actually made a video about these obscure games, I own a sealed copy of Rayman Golf that I am pretty proud of :P
Also, Rayman RR uses the same engine from a sonic game and in early screenshots you could also see rayman riding a pig.
I have to say, this is exactly the type of content I was hoping for when I subscribed. I'd love to see similar stuff in the future!
Vivendi Universal were also players in the early mobile games market, I hope you consider doing a video about their many Crash and Spyro endeavours.

RATCHET & CLANK FOR MOBILE?!?!

YTHEY TURNED RAYMAN INTO SONIC THE GODDAMN HEDGEHOG!??!?!
They put Sonic physics in a Rayman video game...WHY?!
SoniMarSponge 53 exactly what i was thinking about.
I don't know why, but I love how you just spout jokes randomly.
Nice video Frame! It took a while for me to watch it but it was worth it!
I really do like the rayman series. also great video :)
also better watch out for rayman he is gonna stole yo gurl!
I remember playing every gameloft/ubisoft spinoff on my Nokia 3200 for many years... Nostalgia kicks on :'(

But then again, the TI-84 came out in like 2004. There are **way** better games on that.

Possibly as an android apk or java online? It’s hard to say

Ubisoft killed Rayman. Rabbids is just a fun spinoff.
Rayman kart looks a bit too like the Java Asphalt games.
(Ik Gameloft made the Asphalt series)
Teensie's first place warp thats like even more broken then the turbo warp from Lego Racers.
Don’t forget the gba port of crash nitrokart. That’s actually better than it’s console port

I definitely did not know that... to either things you mentioned.
Doom RPG was a legitimately great game and I wish they put it on another system
I like mobile versions of Rayman Raving rabbids.
Gameloft is a mediocre company.
RRR2, and Rabbids go home we’re actually pretty good in my opinion.
what did rayman do to deserbe this
None of them are on iOS anymore.
Dude those old mobile games cost from 99¢ to $25
I remember there was a Google play Rayman port and I remember I actually got pretty far
How did rayman raving rabbits kill of the series mabey they didnt have any ideas
Actually, player-specific abilities came from Mariokart Double Dash.
It is just a 2 in 1 game pak.
All hail rabbids
