Born and raised in Southern California but my Mom and grandparents were rice farmers from the Philippines. They embraced the American Dream and always reminded me growing up how lucky I am to be an American. They taught me country sensibility and when I visit the region where my grandparents are from I'm proud to say the rice farm is still in the family. My oldest son shot his first caribou when he was 5 years old. We never wasted any part of meat we hunted. My husband would drop the parts that we wouldn't eat to some of the Native Elders on the river. Every year I sent up things for them too. Old Vince on the Koyukuk River loved my Jerky and Oranges. Sent them up every year. Sure do miss those old days.
