If they remove all the stock Samsung apps in favor of Google apps, you might as well buy a pixel device at that point. The whole reason of buying a Samsung device is to get those specialized apps that are supposed to work better and have better features.

A few weeks ago, Samsung announced that Google Messages would become the default messaging app on all new devices released after the Galaxy S24. Users with older models were assured that they would not be affected by this change. However, Samsung recently announced that they will be removing Samsung Messages from older models as well.💔
This news has been met with disappointment by many Samsung users. At this point, Samsung has decided to go against the will of loyal users to allow Google to invade our privacy and gain even more access to our personal information. The only way to ensure manufacturers will listen to our concerns is to stop buying their products. I anticipate that their next move will be to mandate the use of Google Photos in place of the Samsung Photos application. After being a loyal Samsung user for a decade, I am seriously considering looking elsewhere.👀🍎
Crap! I still rock my Note 10+ and just started get the Google messages prompt. So this explains it. I tried Google messages over a year ago and I didn't like it then or now. And customization is a big deal to most folks...

Here's the thing, in order for Android to start building it's ecosystem up with each brand, it makes sense to use one messaging app across all the different brands. That being said, I'm never a fan of these companies taking away choices from the customers. That is what separates android from iPhone. In my opinion, Samsung should offer it's owners the option during setup to use either the Samsung branded apps or the Google apps. That way we can decide which set of apps we want on our device. Plus that would also eliminate unnecessary bloatware.

So true. I just got the tablet and computer but now I'm losing functionality.
I like being able to pin conversations to the top, I have my family members pinned. Google messages doesn't have this feature.
I use categories for my business. Another missing feature from the Google app.
You can do that with Google messaging also. Just long press the conversation and there's a pin at the top
@@mitchellbryars9338 the pinning in google messages is limited to 3 pins and doesnt separate them from normal conversations though. Some little things like that mean alot to some of us.
Thank you, Jeff, for this video. My issue is how Samsung implemented this change. I did not know that they were removing Samsung Messages when I upgraded to the Fold 6 and turned in my previous fold. I had done a full backup with Samsung Switch but when I went to restore that backup I had no messages. Even when I downloaded the Samsung messages app, there were no messages to restore. My last complete back up was a year ago so I lost a whole year's worth of messages which is important for me since I use SMS messaging for a lot of my personal and business life. If I had known about this change, I could have converted the messages to Google Messages and then did the back up. It may be worth a video showing people how to do this before they lose their messages as well.
If you sync your messages to your Google account, you should still have your old messages in Samsung's app?
The Customization is the Whole reason I left Apples Products. But the ability to change the wallpaper behind each person's message is so fun to me

I just got it and I'm mad. Samsung message was so much easier. Now I'm using rcs messages and I thought it would mean I would get HD quality video from iphone users and it still look like a video from 1990s.

I have s24U and keep getting prompts asking if I want to switch over. I keep declining. I still have the original messages app - for now.
I like being able to personalize my apps with contact pictures four different backgrounds. That's one of the reasons I have a Samsung phone. It seems like every time I upgrade to a new and improved model, I notice they have removed some of the features that I really enjoyed. I currently have an s23 Ultra. I will hang on to this for some time, but when the day comes that it will be necessary to replace it, I will look at other manufacturers. Very sad. I've had Samsung phones for many years now.
I have a feeling Samsung and Google will work to implement some beloved Samsung messages features into Google messages

How do you add a custom background to a thread in Google messages? The only thing you can do is select some different colors for the chat bubbles.
I just found out about this because I got a prompt to switch when I opened Samsung Messaging. It gave me an option to stay on Samsung Messages for now, so I selected that.

Google Messages doesn't have a pure black dark mode like Samsung Messages. It also is buggy with group chat not showing my own messages in it on my Galaxy S10e (US Version).
I like that Google messages doesn't have pure dark. Looks too high contrast to me. I usually keep my phone on light mode because of the pure dark. I'm probably in the minority lol.

I got my Zfold 6 two days ago here in New Zealand and truly Samsung messages is missing . The default is Google messages.

Also, if you're someone who thinks RCS is important, then Google Messages is the way to go. The RCS features in Google Messages go far beyond the universal profile.

I have S23 ultra on T-Mobile, and it has lost its RCS capabilities. Advanced messaging is no longer applicable. So I switched to Google messages for Samsung.

@viazel2796 Samsung and google worked together to create a version of goggle messages that looks and work similar to Samsung messages.
Yup sadly no RCS on TMO. I wanted to switch back because of Google Messages compression of media, Samsung messages didn't have that

I prefer and am used to Samsung messages - the look, the layout and I'm just comfortable with it. It's what I've used for YEARS. I love playing around with the good lock app, and have spend an ungodly amount of time customizing my keyboard and my message background, so unless I can keep that (especially my keyboard), it's a hard NO and a pass for me. Sadly, I'm sure like everything, I'll be forced to change tho.

The Google messaging app doesn't look good on One UI. I use dark mode, and the blacks are not as deep on Google as Samsung. It would be nice if Samsung could have made something functionally similar, but made it look like it belongs on the system.
I am not sure this is happening to anyone else, but my Samsung Messages app on my S23 Ultra here has slowly started to delete the blue dots by people's names by itself. After the dot is gone, you can no longer see "delivered" or "read" by the message.
Tried Google's, not a comfortable UI. + privacy concerns

When I do a search for the Samsung messages app on my S24 Ultra a screen pops up with message that Google Messages is now the default app with a picture showing the app.
Yes...but that's because it's set to the default. You can change the default app on settings and then Samsung messages will work just fine

It’s stating that the Samsung message app will be fully discontinued on 11/7/24, and will also not be available for download on both on google play or apple App Store.
Had samsung messages from my a02s and a03s then upgraded to the a54 it had google messages pre installed just used to samsung messages so I'm kinda skeptical on using Google messages as of yet

I really feel like the new Samsung is on a removing feature frenzy right now, Rotating Bezel gone from the Galaxy watch, rumored Z Fold6 Ultra to lose the SPen, no more GIF recording, we lost different user roles last update and now Samsung messages and even the new DEX experience on tablets worries me that it too will disappear soon. All uniquely Samsung features gone, why? People don't buy iPhones cause Apple has no features how does Samsung think people will switch if this is their mentality?!?!?!?!?!?!???!!!!
I got the message today on my Samsung messages app. I installed Google messaging, it took one of my group chats and whenever anyone in that chat said something, it created it as a seperate chat, so now it has all these indidivual lines for a group chat. How do you fix that? It had a message saying I have to "add your number" to be in this group when my number is already in there. I typed in my number, for each seperate text of the group text, and it didn't put them altogether back in one group text. How to fix this?
as a ps, the same group message text shows as an MMS message in Samsung Messaging app. I have no idea what an RCS message is
So does this mean they will remove the Good Lock customization for Samsung messages? The only google message feature I see that I like is that you can like someone's message that they sent you. I will stick with my Samsung message until I'm forced to change.

We should not be forced to use Google Messages, maybe we should buy a Google phone😢 and you are being forced if you have to download the app with less functionality.
I have both on my Fold 5, and all my other Samsung phones, tried Google, didnt like it, if the new update take it away, it wont be cool. I love Samsung have used it for years, you want to keep loyal customers.....enhance features not take them away.

The main reason I don't use Google messages or Google calendar is the UI. They make it more steps to delete and edit something. You must reach to the top of the screen to hit edit then delete, very unintuitive.

Samsung also removed an unlock feature when the S24 Ultra came out. If you use a pin code there use to be an option to automatically unlock after you enter your pin. Now it won't unlock until you hit okay after you enter your pin. I hate they removed that feature
They didn't. They just made it so you need a 6 digit pin now to not have to hit the ok button.

Hello! I have found out that when scrolling through galaxy store it gets very laggy like it's moving by itself and for some other apps when scrolling it gets a bit laggy when I left it to scroll by itself. I have tried everything (force reset, cache partition, reset all settings, literally everything). I have an S23fe
I have the galaxy 6 fold downloaded the Samsung messages app and it fits still take the theme from the rest of my phone.
We were not worried about dropping that Samsung message app since we don't use it at all, including their keyboard
By default, Google Messages is set on home screen where I'm from since I had my S24 Ultra. Been using it as normal not even realizing I'm not using Samsung messages. I guess it must be the same for many others. Therefore it would not even matter if they take Samsung messages away. It is almost now like bloatware that is not needed.
I do not see the hype or stress about the whole idea of this. It is almost now becoming sensation and not really necessary information anybody needs.

Most likely you don't use themes and icon packs. Google icons are impossible to change. And if samsung messages icon changes to fit overall theme look, Google message icon always stay the same and doesn't match the theme.
I just got the flip 6 and I'm pissed they took away Samsung messaging. I did download it and lots of glitches. I'm so upset. Think imma switch to the 5
Those of you who use Samsung Messages without havint RCS on your carrier, how do you deal with that? Do you share media with quick share and just dont worry about read notifications?
I just send a link and Samsung message app shows delivered and read and I can see when the other person is typing.
Whatsapp exist and messages just an otp and spam from random numbers here. Rcs is useless
Any1 have glitches with Google messages? My screen jumps around and type window as well... also I lose my cursor below the type window so I can t see what I'm typing if I'm a couple lines down..

I got Samsung Galaxy S24 ultra a month ago. It came with a new google messages, but Went to settings.
And hit apps and you can change your back to samsung messages

So I have an ultra 22, I like using the Samsung messages for, as you say, customization. I have special message tones l for family, friends and work-related. That will leave if I switch to Google. Everything I have read, says that you can have a special message tone, after the text message starts, but as soon as you clear the message you lose the special sound for that person. Can anyone clarify that for me?
Yes, if you delete the entire thread from Google Messages then you delete the ringtone that was assigned to it.
@exiledfrommyself I thought ringtone and contact photo was both assigned in the contacts app, not messages?
I'm not sure how Samsung handles custom notification sounds for contacts when the entire message thread is deleted since I have not used that feature yet, but I assume it's the same for both Samsung and Google in that respect?
@LarsV62 it looks like (in my ultra22) that the ringtone is under the contact. So I would assume it would carry forward to Google messaging. But where you can assign notification sounds in the Samsung messaging, is in the message itself
How can you remove RCS support? If I want to send anything other than text, I'll use WhatsApp. No need to bloat the messages app.
The messages app won't open unless I allow permissions for music and audio that is completely unnecessary to read SMS.
I've bitten the bullet and swapped over to Google messenger, as it will be getting more support. It's a shame because I liked Samsung messenger, but it is what it is.
I love samsung messages and prefer them over google messages.
I hate Google messages for not having the customizations Samsung messages does. If Samsung skinned Google messages with all their messages features, feel, functionality, I'd switch. But for now, I switched back to Samsung's.

I hope Google Messages will let me receive individual replies from people in group Messages and attachment messages. I don't like the whole group being able to see each other's replies to a mms message i send.

Google messages has absolutely no personalization. You can't even set a background image. I like to use my own family photos as background images for the people I text frequently. This is a step backwards and I hope Google steps it's personalization game up.

Most Samsung users are not going to care either way. From my experience most people just use whatever the default messaging app is. If it's Samsung Messages then they'll use that. If it's Google Messages then they'll use that.
