So, a fun fact. Baling wire is used to tie bundles of steel for delivery. This is the knotting generally employed. It's fast, clean, and strong.

heavy duty 9 “ Klein pliers you can go twice as fast and that goes for single and double wire. Or settle for nippers which gives a better yield to the wire than pliers. I like pliers for tying slab , nippers when building columns and shear wall cages in the column yard.

Your union guys use pliers and run with that shit. They're also tying rebar to rebar. Not flat stock to rebar. Another point, youre moving so much slower with that little sickle. Pliers allow for versatile ties, different saddles, snaps. Doubles. Shit you can't do with a twist toy.

I worked construction for thirty years on concrete pours with Iron workers . Your hands wouldn’t last one hour , for one they use leather gloves and dykes and feed the tie wire singularly at a fast pace .
