I remember watching a promo of this show with some sort of cringey rapping when I was 8 years old almost a decade ago now i don’t think it’s here unfortunately.
Not gonna lie, these promos feel unwatchable. Recommendations from actual humans will always trump whatever wacky one-liners are plucked from episode to put in marketing material, for me at least. Hmmm... only 10 comments on this video at the time. Alright, let’s do some reflection in this comment section and see if anyone in the next decade chooses to respond to it. It’s time to Ponder Over Wander. Man, I hadn’t see a single episode of this show until about 2 weeks ago, and then I binged through the entire series after I watched some video essays about it by Diregentleman on his channel. Good guy, makes a lot of great stuff. The show’s good, man, it’s real good. And I don’t have to tell you why, because man, if you’re watching a RUclips video of Wander Over Yonder promos over 5 years after this video was uploaded, then you’re clearly someone who’s seen ever episode and is just clamoring to find some additional snippet of WOY content that you just haven’t discovered yet. You wanna know everything you can about it, because it’s a show every little small thing is worth appreciating. That’s not because there’s some weird hidden depth to the show. Nah, it wears its positivity, optimism, creativity, and influences on its sleeve! It’s just, like, great, y’know? It feels so well-made and that every little bit of it deserves to be highlighted. Man, whenever I’m watching this show and Lord Hater’s on screen, I’m always paying attention to how many bone-teeth he has. It’s always constantly changing, and it just lets him be so expressive, as his design is allowed to change to suit the animators’ needs at any time. That’s cool, right? I wasn’t there to see every little last commercial for this show. As far as I know, the marketing could’ve been absolutely horrendous, and it failed to grow an audience because it’s a show that’s best spread through having a person just honestly sit down and describe the show in that human way that only wordsmiths know, rather than the random lines and gags that are grabbed for TV promos. The same thing happened to me with Adventure Time. Even back when it was first airing, I remember as a kid being repulsed by the promos. They go and pick out the weirdest, wackiest, least approachable elements of the show and my stupid little 12 year-old brain thinks he’s too good for it. It’s why I haven’t seen Gumball or Regular Show, either. But then when I go and watch through all of Adventure Time, I love it! It feels like something that was actually meant to be, like, watched! By humans! Man, I started this post hoping to say something insightful about Wander Over Yonder, but instead it’s just turned into my usual shtick of constantly being disappointed by the marketing for shows and movies I love. I firmly believe that most movies and shows/episodes are best when you head into them without a single clue what they’re about. You get to appreciate the filmmaking and structure a lot better that way, I think. Stop watching trailers, kids. Okay, that’s enough for whatever experiment this is. Random Internet stranger who happens to read this, I hope you respond. Just stop and have an asynchronous chat with a fellow human being, about whatever. It’s nice, especially when it happens in a place you don’t expect. Alright, stay safe friends, and remember, it never hurts to help.
Man I agree so much! I think the only reason I’m really able to watch these promos is because WOY is my favorite show ever and I’m never gonna pass up the opportunity to rewatch some clips (although I do really like the one with Wander and Sylvia under the stars! That’s a neat one, just because it’s new content, and to me it’s sweet to think about Wander talking to Sylvia about all the places he’s been). Trailers by big companies are never that great honestly, even for movies and stuff. They never get the tone of it right, and I’ve never enjoyed watching them (I find that voice often used in trailers really annoying). I’ve seen about 2 trailers in my life that were good enough for me to watch over and over obsessively, and those were for indie projects! But of course nothing beats a good recommendation from an actual person. I’m not lying when I say I’d actually prefer marketing to just be some person who really really likes a thing to just gush about it and tell me why I should get into it. I do it too! And I will never be over how bad the marketing was for this show, I really wish Disney had put in more effort to show people it. Marketing for cartoons is pretty bad in general but that’s a rant for another day- I know your comment is a year old now but I just felt like saying something!
