my closest guess would be that the short hair and the long hair are in reference to Lauren being trans, especially since some of the songs seem to directly deal with trans-themes, being "clocked" for example means being recognized as trans. Maybe there is more to the imagery of the hair being wigs, like personas one assumes by putting them on, but that's all I can discern from this.
