      Hmmm wish I could help there but my Adobe Audition days are well behind me. I imagine it may not be as flexible as a DAW like Pro Tools routing-wise, but I could be mistaken. To be devils advocate: It’s never too late to look into a new DAW and workflow 😈

    Do you always work at 48 sample rate? There's a lot of varying opinions on this...also super helpful video! Thanks!!

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 года назад

      I personally do because I hardly (if even at all) hear a difference between 48K and higher sample rates. I’ve seen a lot of other engineers at a major level say the same thing. Plus Higher sample rates lead to larger files. I never saw that trade off as worthwhile since it’s a negligible difference. I could be wrong though but that’s my 2 cents, and the consumers who stream my mixes don’t seem to complain - over 1 million streams and continuing strong 😅🚀

    @5piece Can u make a tutorial about: How to set up standard Vocal layers within a modern HipHop/Trap/Pop/EDM Song?
    I mean how many layers got e.g. a typical Travis Scott Lead Vox/ Background Vox/ Addlips Vox etc. ?
    What could be a typical Template to achieve such sound?
    In order to reach those Genre's significant big sound, I need to know what is THE MUST have to be recorded and on which point I passed the minimum

    • @5piece
      @5piece  4 года назад +4

      Every song is different and there certainly isn't a "minimum". Most popular rap songs only have one vocal sound - 2 Chainz is a good example of this. Travis has more intricate layers but not every artist has to follow his template. I personally like keeping things more minimal - afterall, the less things that are competing for space, the easier it is to mix.
      I will see what I can do for a future tutorial although I have covered this already in some of my other ones such as these ones about...
      Pitshifting Vocals: ruclips.net/video/W11XgE5a8oE/видео.html
      Distorting Vocals like Kanye / Travis: ruclips.net/video/SV9soJt3Ons/видео.html
      I also have another coming out called "How To Make A Chorus Sound Big" which covers more vocal layering. This drops on January 9th. It will be available on this link then: ruclips.net/video/8HGHooBFSZA/видео.html
      Between these 3 videos, you should be armed with a lot of knowledge to use moving forward. Don't be afraid to try things even if no one tells you too. This is my favourite way to learn. Good luck.

    Hey thanks for the help but I have a question about routing the instrumental and vocal masters around 8:10 . I have a built in output and I only see bus 3-4 and higher, is there a reason I don’t have bus 1-2 and how do I route to the instrumental and vocal master ?

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like you need to fix your I/O settings in Pro Tools. There’s a lot of things that could happen within your I/O so unfortunately I won’t be able to cover them all in a comment reply like this- however, an easy place to start is to open your I/O settings, go to the BUS tab, delete all currently created busses and then click the “Default” button. By restoring to default, it should create the buses needed. In the event it doesn’t, you’ll need to manually create busses. There should be an “New Path” option that you can use to create new busses one by one. You should be able to get all the busses you need from there. Hope this helps!

    Where can I find your template for sale at?

  • @LifesAHandful
    @LifesAHandful 2 года назад

    okay so when you make a template that you want to use everytime you sing how do you apply it to the mic? like how do i go about sounding same (having my template sound ) evrytime i go to record vocals? can i take it. off to do record normally then when im ready to-sing again put the template back on only when im singing

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 года назад

      I'm not sure if I'm understanding your questions correctly but uf you're using a template correctly, you should achieve exactly what you're asking about.
      To record the mic, you need to change the INPUT on your RECORD TRACK to receive the signal from whatever your mic Is on your interface. For me, its Mic Line / Hi Z 1 but it will depend on your interface and set-up.
      Judging by your questions, I'm not 100% sure you understand the purpose of the template which is:
      1) To save you time and get you started almost instantly upon opening Pro Tools. Without a template, you'll need to start with a blank session every time, creating tracks and doing all kinds of routing and other stuff that will take away from getting to whats important: creating and recording.
      2) To create a consistent sound between your songs, because if you use the same template every time, you should achieve a fairly similar sound each time so long as you set up your preamp volume correctly.
      There isn't really a circumstance or reason why you'd "take it (the template) off" - without a template, you aren't getting the above 2 benefits and will likely end up with music that sounds all over the place as you may record Song A one way, then Song B another, leading to an inconsistent sound.
      You can of course remove/mute plugins, or channels as you see fit since you may not need to use them all depending on the song.
      And despite having a template created and saved, you can still select to start a BLANK SESSION in Pro Tools if you prefer to start from scratch for whatever reason.
      Hope this helps.

    when i try to add effects in the Vox channel, it seems like it doesn't recognize the effects (plugins), because they are mono tracks. what would you recommend?,

    • @5piece
      @5piece  3 года назад +1

      You need to use mono plugins on mono tracks. Most plugin companies provide both mono and stereo versions of their plugins, so just be sure you are using the right one for the right purpose, ie if its a mono track, you use a mono plugin, if its stereo, you use stereo, etc. Best of luck!

    u are the goat , what's the benefit of not recording to every track if u don't mind me asking ?

    • @5piece
      @5piece  3 года назад +2

      Thank you!
      Everything is personal preference - I just find its quicker to do it the way I do it, rather than individually route + arm every track every time I need to record.
      I can quickly use one track, and either use playlists to record multiple takes on that track- OR just move the audio from my record track onto the ones meant to house the takes. I can edit and compile a track pretty quickly from there.
      This seems to be common industry practice (I picked this up from the award winning folks I've worked with) but at the end of the day, whatever works best for you IS the best. Hope this helps.

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 года назад

      I may be wrong; but I believe this may depend on your interface / computer configuration as I've seen some people have much more limited bus counts while mine was always stacked like this.
      That being said, you can easily add more. Simply go to the I/O setup, select the 'bus' tab and click 'add new path'. You'll want to do this for every bus you wish to create beyond 24. Pro Tip: export these settings after the fact so that way you don't have to constantly create new busses beyond 24 in the future. Best of luck.

    I got confused at 8:04 how did you have all them buses did you just create one then sent it there

    • @5piece
      @5piece  3 года назад +2

      Hopefully I understand your question correctly, here's my answer: when I go to my busses (under BUS MENU A) you see the top busses are actually labelled (ie PRINT, INST VERB, etc). These are busses I have manually relabelled in the I/O settings of Pro Tools. I use these same I/O settings for pretty much all of my sessions. If I didn't re-label them, they would be displayed as Bus 1-2, Bus 3-4, etc. That's why further down the list you see they are back to being labelled as Bus 51-52, etc. You can find I/O settings under the "Setup" tab in Pro Tools.
      It's also possible to save and export I/O settings so you can always have them set up and ready to go in future sessions, and or when travelling and working in other places on other devices.
      Unlike Logic and other DAWs, Pro Tools usually has all of your busses ready to be utilized (unless your I/O set up is messed up which does happen from time to time). That means I can route inputs and outputs to busses even if they aren't being used yet. Hopefully this makes sense.
      If you check your I/O settings and you don't have much there, try deleting all busses manually by highlighting them and pressing delete on your keyboard. Once done, press the DEFAULT button which will re-populate your busses and help restore your I/O to where it was. You can also manually create busses one by one but that's a whole other process that you hopefully wont have to explore. Hope this helps.

    When I click to change the color to red on the rec track it’s changed all of the tracks the same color. How do I fix that?

    • @5piece
      @5piece  3 года назад

      Sounds like you have selected all of your tracks, rather than just one. Make sure only the track you want to change the color on is selected.
      It’s also possible you have a group enabled, which may apply any changes you do to one track to everything in the group. You can easily suspend groups by holding shift+command (or CTRL on PC) +G. From there you can select your one track to change the color on.
      You’ll know what’s selected because the name will be highlighted white.

    What is a stem? As referred to for the beat track.

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 года назад

      Yeah sometimes I interchangeably use the word “stem” to refer to audio. A stem is typically a group of tracks printed (ie, a drum group) but it could also refer to an individual sound. If I said it while referring to the beat track, then that’s what I likely meant but the previous definitions are better suited to the word “stem”

    I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong with my sends and my reverb just isn’t working no matter what I try

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 года назад

      Could be a whole bunch of things but likely something wrong with your routing. I recommend double checking your I/O settings. You may want to delete all paths and and return them to default settings as sometimes things get wonky there. Otherwise, if you’re routing and matching inputs and outputs so every signal goes somewhere, you should be able to achieve what I’m doing here. Double check your routing and you may find you made an error somewhere. My experience with troubleshooting is 9 times out of 10 we overlook a simple and obvious thing that creates the issue. Best of luck!
