Tom Petty once told a story about when they were recording this album, at Dave Stewart's house, "We all kept walking around the telling each other "we're in a band with Roy Freaking Orbison""
@@elston3153 the song Handle With Care was recorder in Dylan's garage studio, the rest of the album was recoded in Dave Stewart's house which they rented for a month
Obviously another great song from this group. Shawn, do your self and all who have never heard of the guys a favor and just react to the entire album ,as everybody says awesome... fire. There will never be a group like this again. It's amazing how these guys all came together, right place right time
This is my favorite Traveling Wilbury song. I keep it in my Dylan playlist too. The whole Jersey thing and the wink towards Springsteen with multiple song titles and references hidden throughout the lyrics is genius. Love this so much. And yes, the whole album is awesome. It would be impossible to out super this super group. R.I.P. Roy, George and Tom.
@@MrCome4numb Love them both so much. Mesmerized by Brownsville Girl: "How far are y'all going?" Ruby asked us with a sigh "We're going all the way 'til the wheels fall off and burn 'Til the sun peels the paint and the seat Covers fade and the water moccasin dies." Ruby just smiled and said, "Ah, you know some babies never learn."
To Clarify Why Teeter Was A Effective Shield is Plain & Simple in A Stand Off When a Man Has A Hostage it's Better to Use A Woman because Law Enforcement are Quite Careful She's Not Hurt ! Do Because Teeter Was Crossdressing & Pulling Off Appearance if being Female it Had Dane Effect. Law Enforcement React Differently When the Hostage is Male !
Dylan and Petty pretty much wrote this whole thing. Harrison and Lynde weren't getting the references and said some thing like "ok this ones too American for us." What's crazy is that they reference Springsteen extra songs that didn't appear until the Tracks release years later.
Shawn, you may as well review this entire first TW album. There are literally NO clunkers on it. In an album full of treasures, 'Tweeter...' is probably my favorite. Certainly one of Dylan's best vocal performances. If you wanna hear more Roy Orbison, you gotta listen to 'Not Alone Any More'.
Thank you so much for getting back to these guys so quickly!! And sorry, after all these years I still have no idea where the story went. But for some reason, at the end when Bob says he thinks about the Monkey Man from time to time, I got the feeling he was talking about his addiction was thinking of him. Being sober now for many years may be the reason I think that. Idk. Either way, it's another epic performance from the group that could do no wrong - musically, that is.😁
I've always loved the awkward, yet quintessentially Dylanesque deftness of "Jan had told him many times 'it was you to me who taught'" , which makes the lyric work.
HEY SHAWN, THIS ALWAYS REMINDED ME OF ( DYLAN'S ) AWESOME SONG ABOUT RUEBEN 'HURRICANE' CARTER ( THE HURRICANE ) 😊I'M NOT EVEN SURE YOU'VE DONE THAT, WHAT AN INSANE SONG DYLAN HAD THERE SHAWN!😮😊GREAT SONG, GREAT STORY AND SOMETHING BOB FOUGHT FOR FOR YEARS TO TRY AND FREE RUEBEN, A WRONGLY ACCUSED MAN CONVICTED BY AN ALLLLLLL WHITE JURY! ☹ PRETTY CRAZY STUFF
There you go! There’s only one Dylan. Did he write it on the spot, or was he holding onto it for a while, waiting for the right time? They’re great as a group, and their individual personalities come out too. This is similar to “Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack Of Hearts” from ‘Blood On The Tracks’. Roy’s personal song on this album is “Not Alone Any More”.
My take: The undercover cop was the survivor. He was crooked, the line "It was you to me who taught in Jersey anything's legal as long as you don't get caught" is from Jan to Her brother, the cop. Jan, his sister, was hiding in his car so she could confront the Monkey man (Her secret love) because she knew her brother was chasing him. She knocked out her brother and got a gun to take down tweeter (the one who love chose to be with) and the monkey man. Its implied she took her own life by jumping off the bridge afterwards by saying to her brother "I have someplace to go and its best you dont know". The main chorus is foreshadowing of the cop being knocked out "Never saw them when they're standing never saw them when they fell". He woke up to everyone dead, and being a crooked cop took the loot and planning to skip town to Florida to retire in the sun. The last part of the song is him gambling away his money, probably addicted as a coping mechanism, and watching the news as the story starts to die down, but in the end he cant forget.
I think the song purposely leaves open what happened to Jan tweeter and the monkey Man. Getting used as a shield implies you’re taking bullets, but not explicitly saying. Jen left with a gun, but it doesn’t say who she was talking to best they didn’t know. But I’m pretty sure that the narrator is not one of the characters in the story somebody who knows them all.
Another great one, absolutely love the chorus and the musical effect on them. Hope you don't forget 'Not alone anymore' you will love it for sure with Roy on lead vocals.
“Nelson Wilbury" - George Harrison "Otis Wilbury" - Jeff Lynne "Lefty Wilbury" - Roy Orbison "Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr." - Tom Petty "Lucky Wilbury" - Bob Dylan
If you want to check out more Roy Orbison I would suggest you view "Roy Orbison Black and White Night". It is a concert recorded in a small venue with a lot of special guests like Bruce Springsteen, Drummer Ron Tutt, Bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, Singers K.D. Laing and Bobbie Raitt and many others I can't remember right now. Can't recommend it enough. All Roy's hits are featured.
I grew up mostly in the 80s and when this album came out I loved it but nothing else on the album could touch this one specific work of art. Literally perfect.
If you like songs with a western theme in the early 70s Alice Cooper with all the original members, the album is called Killer and the song is called Desperado. The song is cool because it tells a story.
Great song and superb vocal by Bob Dylan.

I love Bob's story telling, especially on "Hurricane" & "Brownsville Girl".

Roy passed away before this song was recorded.
A good hearted jab at Bruce Springsteen with lots of Bruce song references.
Love it. Bob is so freaking awesome!
I've been waiting for a reaction to this. Thank you so much.

The Wilbering Travelberries
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love this song!
You need to listen to the cover by the Headstones. They rock it so hard that's it's almost a completely different song.
2 Dylan songs that use this same narrative style:
"lily, Rosemary, and The Jack of hearts'
"Black Diamond Bay"
Favorite cut with some inside jokes
A fav of mine that really gets no recognition is Rattled
It's a cool beat
NICE!
Was thinkin bout this un last week!
p.s. love your t-shirt!
Roy was great 👍
Best song! 🎉
Is tweeter a tweaker?
React to Muffin Man by Frank Zappa

More closely related to Lilly, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts or Black Diamond Bay.
Since Ruben was a real person.

Also similar to "Black Diamond Bay"
In both he's watching TV and filling in the back story.
Do I write my own rhymes? No, think them. That means I've forgotten more things you could ever think of
My understanding is that Dylan and Tom Petty wrote it together.
I love this song. The entire album is fire.
My favorite, too! Dylan is awesome here.
Dylan is unreal, no one else like him
Hey could you possibly react to Bob Dylan's song and music video 'Must Be Santa' from 2009 before Christmas, thanks!!!!

How in the world did they pack so much action, drama, and vibes of an entire Hollywood action movie into a 5 minute song. True masters.
Try last night by them
Brilliant ❤ The whole album is awesome 🎉
Another great one, absolutely love the chorus and the musical effect on them. Hope you don't forget 'Not alone anymore' you will love it for sure with Roy on lead vocals.
The narrator is the one who goes to Florida is the way that I heard it
Darker side of Folk Rock. Bob has always been great at story telling
All I can say is this is the best song that I’ve never heard played on the radio.
“Nelson Wilbury" - George Harrison
"Otis Wilbury" - Jeff Lynne
"Lefty Wilbury" - Roy Orbison
"Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr." - Tom Petty
"Lucky Wilbury" - Bob Dylan
Yea bro, we had so much fun listening to this super group, the talent was off the charts.
You might check out the musical doc - Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black And White Night
to better familiarize yourself with RO.
If you want to check out more Roy Orbison I would suggest you view "Roy Orbison Black and White Night". It should be k.d.laing, she doesn't use Upper Case letters in her name.
Don't let the monkey get on your back!
This band was created by George Harrison! A pure genius!👍💖. RIP George, Tom and Roy🙏🙏🙏
I grew up mostly in the 80s and when this album came out I loved it but nothing else on the album could touch this one specific work of art. Literally perfect.
Dylan's
Imagery is insane
Amazing they nailed this song on the first or second take. What else needs to be said.
This entire album is excellent beyond belief!
Cool. Not many do this song❤😂 enjoy.
Thanks for doing this one. Haven’t seen anyone else do it. Love it.
Hidden Gem!
Frank Zappa his birthday today
This was my favorite song when I was growing up. Don't really know why, maybe because my dad introduced me, but I really enjoyed it.

Such an awesome song by a great story teller..
A long time favorite of mine
