    I just found your channel, and I'm already loving what you do! ❤ I love mixing my own pans! I do that fairly often to make "knock off" mixes using pigments I already have. Examples: Ocean Blue by RS, Denise's Green by DV, Olive Green by DV, Sap Green by Qor, Naples Yellow by Schmincke, Lavender by DS, Jane's Grey by DS. I'm sure there's others, and I keep a running list of colors to try mixing like this.
    I'll also mix my own pans if I don't like one of the pigments in a convenience paint. For example, I love the color of Moonglow, but I don't want the lightfastness issues of PR177. So I mix my own using Viridian PG18, Ultramarine PB29, and Quin Alizarin Crimson PV19 by DV. And I might use different versions of ultramarine depending on my current preference for granulation.
    Another reason to mix my own pans... I often make my own convenience colours using pigments that are already on my palette. That way I get much better colour harmonies with the rest of the palette! One example of this is a bit of a weird mix: Phthalo Green PG7 with Benzimida Orange Deep PO36 by DV. It makes the most gorgeous, luminous, earthy greens! It's wonderful for autumn foliage as different ratios vary from orange, warm brown, olive green, to deep green. Other oranges will mix similarly; I like Transparent Pyrrol Orange for this too.

    very creative and lovely mixes! I often mix my tube paints as well. I recently mixed ultramarine turquoise (PB29 and PG7) and a dark green inspired by Prussian green, since I had a full tube of unused Prussian Blue. It's a lot of fun to see what you can do with leftover paint. Better used than unused ^_^

    Such a relaxing video and I love the color you ended up with. Do you have Aquarius Violet from Roman Szmal? It feels fairly similar to this but leans a little warmer and has very nice granulation. Roman Szmal paints are certainly addicting!
    I've been mixing some green gouache for my little travel palette lately because I find it's a lot harder to get the colors I want made in tubes since many brands have a fairly limited range. I also made a dupe for Cobalt Turquoise (PG50) as I was trying to keep toxic pigments out of the palette I'll be carrying around outdoors.

    • @chromaphile
      @chromaphile  9 месяцев назад

      I do indeed have the Aquarius violet and it is beautiful but maybe even a little too separating for me! I think both these colours have a place for sure. I totally get not wanting to use cobalt/cadmium pigments outdoors, it's so nice to have the flexibility to mix your own!

    Mix with a palette knife on a white ceramic plate. It’s easier to make nuanced adjustments.

    • @chromaphile
      @chromaphile  9 месяцев назад +1

      It is, I just don't like that I end up wasting paint that gets left on the plate and other tools when mixing such a small quantity

    • @berolinastrassmann
      @berolinastrassmann 6 месяцев назад

      @@chromaphileI get you, I dislike palette knives et. al. because not only it makes a horrible noise, but it ever gets all the paint removed and there is lots of waste. The solution? A small silicone spatula (or silicone nail care tool) will be able to scrape all the pigment from the porcelain without any inconvenience (and noise!) Your ceramic tray (the one that looks like a cutting board) should be perfect because there are no lips or vertical borders. I really like your colours! Happy experimenting!
