At last someone who can explain this procedure plainly and simply without going into a long drawn out process. Good and informative video, now I know how to do it, thanks.
I usually set my camera settings to manual mode to get my desired shutter speed and watching my histogram. Most times I’ve done this so often it becomes second nature rather than worrying about settings. Great video 🙏👍🏼
I just stumbled upon this short video. It is literally the essence of long exposure using the ND filters. It covered the entire process down to the smallest detail, and all that in just slightly over 3 minutes. I liked the sample photos, really. Well done David!!!
Great video, here at Acadia and this was clutch for my long exposure shots as this is new for me so it was fun to experiment.
Wonderful video and very helpful.
An intervalometer cable shutter release is much easier because you just set the shutter time on it, then it counts down for you when you press the button.
Brilliant
Thanks for sharing valuable information
Thank you so much for sharing!
Instead of setting the camera to manual focus mode to prevent refocusing on pressing the shutter, you could setup back button focus on your camera.
Really filters make much difference in photography I am using freewell ND filters and they are good too.
Pretty clear.. Nice!
Thank You!
if i use the big stopper and little stopper together will that give me a super stopper and if so do i use the chart for the super stopper?
The nd apps have different numbers than my nikon d800. So enoying. I can't do nothing with the nd apps. Can you explane how translate the exposure numbers to the numbers in the Nd App?
Hi! Nancy, try Photopills, as far as I know there is nothing better.
thanx
Hi! I have some questions maybe you can help me. I love landscape photograhpy and I love the way pics come out with the ND filters. Im now going to buy a new camera Canon T6 to keep studying and i want to buy ND and a polarizer filter. So here comes my questions.
First, type of filter: Is is better to buy a square ND filter so that i can use ir with all the lenses I want in the future? Or is it better to buy a screw in filter.
Are there going to be times where I will have to shoot a pic with lets say a polarizer and a ND filter at the same time?
Do I really need any other than the 10 stop ND filter? Is it really worth it to buy the 3 stops one or the 5 stops one? Or should I buy a Variable ND, which Ive read are not the best choice in most cases.
And last buy not least, brands. Ive read and noticed that when it comes to filters, money means quality. So am I good with a 60 bucks Hoya filter? Or with a Hitech square filter? I mean there are so many that you dont really know with one is going to do a good job.
Thank you very much for your time and knowledge!

I have a 77mm circular polarizer that fits my lens and I just purchased a 5 stop and a 10 stop filter at 82mm. I use the step up rings and use both the polarizer and the nd filter without fignetting. I have a hoya prond 5 stop nd filter and a hoya circular polarizer and a nisi 10 stop. They all work great.
What's the name of the app? Is it on the Android store? Great video. Thanks!
Hello Russ, the app I use is LongTime Exposure by HPR-Solutions. I use it on an iOS device so I'm not sure whether it's also available for Android. If not you could try LEE Filters LEE Stopper Exposure app, which is available on Android. It helps to calculate the exposure for a 6, 10 and 15-stop ND filter and is very good - I also use it as well as LongTime Exposure. Hope that helps, David
Where u from
Hi David, i found your video very interesting, can you please tell me which app to download for the calculation of exposure time, thank you
NiSi filter or Lee filter
You guys are asking for the name of the app?? seriously? this mean that you are not detail oriented lol rewatch the video people!!! he said the name and it was also showing on his phone!!!! ugrrrr
The answer is an app "nisi filter".
Man my head don't works at all
Video presents the technical subject very professionally, but doesn't get into the characterizations which describe the filter and its use: grossly over-priced wate of money; RUclips fad; waste of time turning water into mist.
You do get that photography is art and that we all see art differently. If you don't like ND, that's fine. I like them. It doesn't mean that either of us are "right" in any way.
Unnecessary annoying music.
To the point. Great . Thanks.
