- Six months ago we left Berlin, the only home the kids have ever known, and moved to the countryside in Sweden, in pursuit of a more simpler and slower way of life. A LOT has happened, and its been a journey full of ups and downs, but here is a little glimpse of us taking a leap of faith and going after our dream of living in the Swedish forest. I hope you enjoy the video :)

Thank you Jade :)
this is literally goals!!! I've been dying to go to Sweden and also to move into the woods somewhere :') this video is so inspiring!! glad you all are all healthy and happy
So, have you been here yet? If yes, what did you think? ☺️
Love it!
To mush devil thing in big city’s,
What?! Every city on the planet has it's own crime rates and bad things. Not only in Sweden...
Welcome to Sweden I hope you have a great life here.
Thank you Stina :)
Wow, the pictures of you in the empty flat made me realize what a brave move you've been doing. To move with the whole family into a new country with a completely new setting around you. It's very inspiring, you're cool (and kind)!
Thank you Jonathan! You're pretty cool and kind too :) Looking forward to when you come visit us in the summer!
Agree, it's such a brave movie! I can kinda relate to it, I'm in a long distance relationship and eventually someone of us has to move. But the thought is so scary! Especially since I love Sweden and don't want to leave the nature here, if it would be me who eventually moves...
Wait ... its only a two day drive from Berlin to Sweden.... I must be Canadian....
it's less if you go to the south of Sweden - like 7 hours by car (less than 400 kms)
@@SilkSpectre7 ye, its closer to copenhagen & germany for me than to stockholm here in the south
I am South African and she is definitely from South Africa that accent you can never hide nonetheless very lucky to live that life
Wonderful! Greatings to your new life!! 🌸Please add your craft to the people here i Sweden that are fighting to protect the Swedish forest. They are getting great dammage with the bigscale harvesting and the authoritys keep lying to the people saying that Sweden has a susteinable "forest industry" .. Swedish people LOVES the nature and forest but take them for granted.." they eat the cake that they want to spare" " äter kakan man vill ha kvar" typ..we and the world need to save the Swedish forest from the bog scale global marketing that Knows not limits.. but The Swedish forest, the animals and the enviroment can not take much more abuse..
Great comment! Abuzive marketing and consumerism that ia promoted throw marketing, destroy the nature. And in not to far future this will be reality. Sad
Oh relly..
How many acers do you have, that are being in productive forest use?.
I have about 16 ha, and I have been working in the forest for over 20 years.
And this lies you are textning her dont have any thruth at all.
If you want to protect your forest thats allright, NO body will take that away from you.
But for those How live from the forest to pay their bills most beable to do so.
In sweden we have a natural and good standard on our forest production.
We replant 2 trees for every one we Cut down.
We have never had does amount of wood in sweden as we have now.
We use "trakthyggesbruk".
We leave about 15 % of The wood or trees on that forest that is about to be Cut down.
We keep trees around water and moutains,
Near citys or habitat for animals, birds.
In the north we save forest for the reindeers to find their food suply in the winter.
The forest workers take their responsibillity for The future, do you?
Or are you just a troll with nothing better to do.
@@Rostenfranglesbygden I am telling the true. The biggest problem are the big companies. But there is big conflict of interests in those issues. You take too much forest and old forest.. So if you want to get mad at some people tell the true about sweden to the World.. its ok. I will say it again because I know what I m talking about. Im not saying we shouldnt use the trees.. but it too much and it is NOT sustenaible as it is now.
There is no truth in your response.
We do not cut down everthing in the Woods here in sweden.
We cut down about 75% of the forest. 25% is left and being saved for ever.
We then plant 2 more trees for every tree We cut down.
Thats the reason We have twice the amount of forests then We had for about 100 years ago.
You are wrong and you dont know what you talking about.
This arguments you are texting sounds more for me like a missguided Greenpeace activist..
Communist talk, that have nothing to do in our world to day. It sholud had been erased by now.
@@lonelysheperd1961 you see here down they will deny the true not matter what the cost.
I stumbled upon this video while watching videos about Sweden and this was honestly the most peaceful 8 minutes of the day for me. The nature there looks so beautiful and peaceful. What a perfect place to grow up!
Hi Olga, thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and especially that you found it to be peaceful :) all the best!
What an absolutely beautiful and moving video! I am very interested in moving to Sweden too, so I am looking forward to seeing more of your journey! :) Take care x
Thank you ☺️ I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Best wishes, Ellen x
Just remember that Sweden is a part of the real world. We do not al live in the forest or the countryside, picking wildberries, dressed like elves. We live ordinary lives. live in apartments, take the bus, buy our food at a supermarket, watch TV. There is a lot of concrete and industry as well in this country. Very, very few can live the kind of fairy tale life that you can see in you tube videos. We are not fairies, we are humans.
@@henriettanovember4733 Well I do not think Swedes are fairies haha :D But I got a possible job opportunity there and like to get to know the country and the people better before deciding anything ^^
You can find beautiful places all over the world! :)
I live in Sweden and have done it my whole live :D
@@henriettanovember4733 yeah sadly that is true… (I’m Swedish)
Greetings from Finland! I live on the ountryside on the westcoat of Finland in Ostrobothnia in a little town close to the city of Vasa! Living in the countryside is lovely and our house is over 100 years old! Love it! Welcome to scandinavia and the nordic countries! 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
was in helsinki 2 years ago, it was appealing!
may i visit you next time?
Thank you :) ah your house and location sounds super dreamy! Wishing you all the best! Love, Ellen x
Congratulations on your move! You chose an incredibly beautiful part of the world to move to. You and your family are very fortunate. Enjoy!
Thank you ☺️
It is so cool (as a swede) who tried everything to escape from this life and now I'm making a lot of money and travel a lot - but the simplicity of the life makes me want to go back to live a simpler life.
So brave and beautifull, must have been a huge step. Wishing you all the best! I hope to find myself in a place like this in the future too, this video really inspires me.
Thank you so much Hanna 😊 Im so glad that this inspires you to go after your dream of a life closer to nature 🌸 All the very best wishes!
I moved to sweden in June to avoid lockdown, life is good. Good luck. X
Thank you! And to you too :) Im happy to hear you are happy about your move! We really are as well!

Thank you for sharing such great inspiration! We made our dream come true as well this year, and moved in to a cottage in the Swedish countryside
Your accent sounds a little South African at times
It’s because I am a little South African :) I grew up in Cape Town until I was 18.
Definitely South African
Having been to Sweden two times I fell in love with it myself
I'm going back to visit some people there in two weeks.. every time I'm there I want to move; I'm strongly attracted to it .. the peace..
Glad to see you made your (& your family's) dream come true; may we meet there one day
Looks like a great life.
How cool is that?
Another person who moved in the middle of the pandemic. 😁
I also moved from Nuremberg to Norway, in the middle of the second lockdown and have been there for about 3 months. 🌌 And the video is just so wonderful and well done, I enjoyed every second. Your story comes across very well and you can imagine a lot about it. Great visualization. 🥰 I hope you have settled in
Very cool ☺️ how’s Norway treating you? Are you happy you made the move?
We’re really happy we did! It felt like a really big risk at the time, so I’m happy to say we’re settling in really nicely ☺️ wishing you all the best in your new home 🌸

Randomly came across this video. It's lovely!
Thank you Aviva, thats very sweet of you :)
That was unexpectedly emotional haha curious though couldn't you have lived a similar life in Germany? Is there as much wild on Germany?
Haha :) yes, for sure! Germany also has beautiful nature & wilderness. But we don’t have any extended family in Germany...here in Sweden we have my brother and his family, aunts & cousins, & my parents are now a couple of hours away by car...we wanted to be closer to family which is a big reason we moved here :)
@@EllenThulin so lovely, and so appreciate you leaving in and being so candid about your emotional journey and the losses as well as gains in your new life. Hope to follow in similar footsteps with my new family ❤

Welcome to sweden! We also moved to sweden 6 months ago! We moved to Norbotten. It’s amazing isn’t it? 😊
I'm in my early to mid 20s and I don't know how to achieve this life, but I want to.
I've seen really cheap countryside houses in north Sweeden, would be a dream to get one.
Hi! 🌸 I believe you can achieve your dream! What made this possible for us was being self employed, but in today’s world with so many jobs allowing their employees to work from home, it’s opened up the opportunity for more people to move out to the countryside. There’s a lot of bureaucratic stuff one needs to understand & work through when moving to Sweden, but it shouldn’t hold you back! Do it ⚡️
@@EllenThulin Thanks for the kind words! :)
Välkomna :)
Tak :)

Wow, Impressive, where and how did you buy a house in Sweden, thinking of doing the same thing so grateful for tips.
One love from nigeria
Wow.. I really want to move to Sweden... Here in Malaysia, everyone is Living in materialistic.. Always Compare each other..... How lucky you are.. Btw.. I hope you enjoy your life there in Sweden 😊❤️❤️❤️
Most people are living very materialistic lives in Sweden as well. These youtubers (Of whom many are foreigners or former big city-people)showing a life in the countryside , in the forest and so on are not showing what it really is to live in Sweden. They are showing a fairy tale. NOT real life. Very, very few people in Sweden live like that in the forest, picking berries and so on. Most people live in cities, have very ordinary jobs as busdrivers, in some mine or as teachers or nurses or whatever and many, many live in flats. Very few could make a living just walking around in the forest, and potting about the house on the countryside. These people are chasing a dream, showing a dream and a fairy tale.
@@henriettanovember4733 ouh, I see.. Btw, thank you for sharing the information about living in Sweden 😊✌️🔥🔥
@@anthonyadams9520 I think more and more people these days are longing for a slow life, a life in nature and a life in more peace and quiet. But these you tube videos showing life in rural Sweden as a fairytale life do not show the truth. They show a very well edited version of what they themselves dream about, hope for, long for. That in itself is not wrong, as long as you who watch these videos (and they are many these days) understand that you are watching a dream, a fairy tale and not the absolute truth about living in Sweden, or living a rural life in Sweden. These former city dwellers and foreigners very seldom make friends with local people and become a real part of their new country. The country, the forest and the local people are more or less props for their videos. Not always and not everywhere of course, but for the most part. I hope you can find a less materialistic life, a more natural and slow life in your own country. Or where ever life takes you in this world. Perhaps one day you make videos about that. Truthful and genuine videos that show both the dream and the reality. But true peace, and true connection with what really matters in life comes from the inside. From a renewal of feelings and thoughts, from new choices and decisions. You cannot travel across the world to find that. Not for real. Perhaps the change of environment, everything new around you in a different part of the world, like a forest in Sweden, can give you a sense of that something new has happened in your life and that you are on a new and better path in life. But if it comes from outside it will not last. I wish all good things in life for you. Bless.
@@henriettanovember4733 thank you for the reply.. Yeah I will think about it... Actually I really sick living in the city.. I cannot find peace... Btw, Once again I say thank you for explaining... I will find my own peace😊✌️

Thank you Mark, I appreciate you writing me this! All the best wishes to you!
What a fantastic place. So beautiful
Where in Sweden do you live ? I mean where in the middle you moved ?
This is my BIGGEST dream! Being a mum of two myself, im very curious to know how your children has reacted to the big move ? ❤️
Hi Signe! I can only recommend you going after this dream of yours :) I think the ages of your kids will largely determine how they react to the move...mine are 5 & nearly 3 and because they don’t have attachments to school or friends, they have been very open & excited about the move. I also think that the fact that we were in lockdown for 3 months before our move also made the transition for the kids much easier. Another point to make is that we moved from a city where we didn’t have extended family. I can imagine it might be difficult for kids if they were to move far away from grandparents and cousins whom they are close with...moving to the countryside with teenagers might have its challenges, but if the kids are young I believe they’ll adjust nicely to being closer to nature & with happy parents who are going after their dream :) I wish you all the best!
@@EllenThulin thank you for such a quick answer! My son is nearly 4 and my daughter nearly 1, so their age doesnt seem to be the problem. My biggest concern is the language barrier, but we might have a slight advantage because we are from Denmark and can fairly easily understand the swedish language. But i worry still :) we are close to family though.. so i don't think it will ever happen for real (that and the fact that my husband have zero interest in moving to a new country)
It makes me so sad because i am such a big dreamer :(
@@signewerner1310 don’t stop dreaming! ☺️ the nice thing about Denmark being so close is that you can easily move back, if Sweden doesn’t work out :) which might be a good starting point in trying to convince your husband to try out the move. As far as language is concerned, your kids will easily pick up Swedish at that age. When I was 4 my parents moved me from Denmark to South Africa & I quickly learnt English. Also, Swedish will be my sons 4th language and he’s already teaching me Swedish :) I really hope you’ll find a way of giving your dream a try :)
@@EllenThulin thank you Ellen! ❤️

How has it been so far the settling in Sweden?! :)
It's been great thanks! And surprisingly I'm finding the winter here not too bad at all...yes its dark and cold, but having the view of nature and making an effort to light candles and make the home cosy definitely helps :)
It’s hard leaving a much loved home. Particularly leaving heart warming views or cosy window vistas that will never be seen again. Gone like friends of old. Every house has been a home 🏡 But where I am is always my home 💝
You are sooo lucky.❤️❤️ love From India.😀😀
Wondering if you ever considered doing this in the German woods/ countryside

Have you seen any wildlife in Sweden like a bear or a moose or even a wolf
Are you guys Germans? I guess you don’t need a visa to live legally in Sweden right? But how about work in Sweden, health care and everything. Do you need a visa for that? Is it easy to find work?
We both grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, but I have a Danish passport & my partner has German, which yes, has meant we don’t need a visa. We are both self employed so I can’t say whether it’s easy to find work here unfortunately…where do you live?
@@EllenThulin aww.. that explains it if your self employed. I was born in Germany too :) But I guess if someone isn’t self employed you need a visa for work? I wish I could speak Swedish I would go in an instance. I’ve been with my family in Sweden a couple of times I so love it. I do photography too - I’m on VERO it’s a photography network if you’re on there too - but more as a hobby. I just love the nature, loneliness and tranquility in Sweden. It’s something special. I’ve seen so many people just buying houses and live there life there. Oh I wish I could go too 😍
