      @@float32 I mean gotta first get rid of the electoral college cause that’s been outdated for the last century and then yeah ranked voting could work but you can just do normal election where you have a first round and best two move to a final round. That’s quick and efficient but rank vote ain’t bad either just more of a headache when you have a very large population.

    To me, I think Kamala's soaring approval is disconnected from her specifically. • @chrissolace
      @chrissolace 29 дней назад +14

      True, but incumbent typically refers to at least having been in office before and knowing what the job entails (and why they typically have an advantage, since voters know what to expect from them).
      Not often does a candidate lose and then try to run again and win; the only time that has happened was with President Cleveland, who is the only incumbent to be a non-consecutive President.

    • @charlesdebarber2997
      @charlesdebarber2997 29 дней назад +13

      True, but the incumbency strength might be a little dubious with this election. It is pretty rare for a former president to run again. The last was Hoover in 1933 and he didn't win the primary for the Republican party. We're kind of playing with something new, so I suspect the incumbency advantage would have remained for Biden, but it would have been heavily watered down.

Trump has always relied on making Biden look very old, even used the propaganda against him, but now that Biden's dropped out and Kamala is starting to lead ahead, he really can't adapt to the new change, and the new 'weird' word for them is resonating well. For Gen Z, a big factor is that for the first time since many of us have been legally able to vote, this is the first election that feels like there is a real chance for change. Trump has been the Republican candidate for three elections in a row, and many people of Gen Z are sick of him at this point because he's the only republican candidate we've ever had the choice to vote for. When it was Trump v Biden for a second time, many of us were resigned to four more years of things being terrible one way or another. The fact that Biden stepped down and made way for someone more capable to take his place immediately inspired a sense of hope in a lot of Gen Z that maybe things actually can be better, that we don't need to resign ourselves to four more years of a senile grandpa or a racist one. It feels like there's a chance for things to finally move away from this era of politics that Trump has done his best to dominate, and hopefully this election will be his last so we can move on towards a new era

      @@PinkMawile Bad comparison. TV & Radio were TECHNOLOGIES which increased the amount, speed, and quality of mass communication and allowed information to spread to all, even the illiterate (which was more an issue back then)
      Memes & Hashtags are social/cultural… quirks? Trends? Practices? Slang? (Not sure how to categorize them but in any event not technologies so not comparing apples to apples) … which while significantly increasing the rapidity of spread, otherwise significantly decrease the quality of communication and increasingly excludes folks not “in the know”.
      Other than the increased speed of spread component, they are otherwise complete opposites. One group are technologies, the others are not. One increases the reach of information to anyone with eyes or ears, the other narrows it to only those up-to-date on “online culture”. Both theoretically could be used to either increase or decrease the quality of information out there, but in practice one mostly increases it and the other almost exclusively decreases it.
      Being able to hear out a full speech or proposal on TV or Radio allows one to learn the nuanced details of an issue or a policy plan- now go try to explain any amount of nuance or policy details on a TickTock short and you can’t, instead you have to simply and “dumb it down” until all you have left are politicians claiming they can fix it (without saying how they plan to do so), empty slogans, and attacks on the opposition. Or when have you seen the rational weighing of the pro’s and con’s of spending that government funding on “A” or rather on “B” through a meme fight? I agree with this video a lot! I think
    1) she's an entire generation younger than Trump or Biden and it feels like it
    2) she has shown an impressive understanding of the political landscape, including her upbeat social media campaign. As well, when anything good happens at all, I feel like young people allow for a grace period in which they shower a political candidate with memes, and we still may be in that honeymoon period with Harris
    3) You are exactly right that abortion and Gaza are two main issues for young voters, and it does give the appearance like she is more bold on both of these issues. She's still working out some kinks in her campaign but, as someone who is following closely, I can tell you that she has a long way to go before we see her as the undeniably correct solution on these issues, and not just the lesser evil
    4) We really are tired of old white men being in charge, and I think this country has actually felt that way for some time, despite the contrast of the prominence of Trump. I think young people see a woman of color and are reflexively inclined to believe she'll do a better job of listening to and internalizing the Gen Z perspective.
    I was afraid at the beginning of this video you were going to say young people were getting turned onto Harris just because of the bells and whistles of social media, which is just so reductive. It's refreshing to see that young people in fact are looking for political solutions to problems, and that your analysis reflects this.

      I’ve had a few trump ads on more right leaning videos, but mostly Kamala. It might be that all the videos you watch are center to left. I have a few righter leaning subscriptions.

      Yeah same here. She got a big cash flow and is probably splurging on ads to appeal to young people. Despite what is said, I don’t think she is actually nearly as popular with young voters(especially young men) as is being reported. Most people I’ve talked have been flooded with her ads recently
