+JungleEPC yeah, it wasn't supposed to be that loud. It was about half or less that volume when I started the render, like my other videos that I've had background music in. Don't know what happened.
i bought this as my first bike back in june and just hit 1000 miles, never riden another bike before and even i have a problem with the vibrations as i travel highway a lot. I have gotten used to it to the point where it doesn't bother me but i would like it to be less, im tall enough where the pegs don't bother me never really noticed it tbh haha, i really wanna mod it more i did my bar end mirrors same as yours and that seat cowl is soooo sexy, hoping to throw on an exhaust soon and ECU, love that you have the same bike it helps me so much as a new rider love the vids and all you've done to your bike! keep up the awesome helpful vids man
I dont agree with some of the things you say. ill say first of all that mine is still stock. I havent changed anything yet and that will be a project for this winter :) (this is just my opinion) (ridden 4000km so far) (iam 165cm tall) - Vibrations are a bit high at low rpms and fine 4000+ - I like the high engine braking - love the position of the food pegs + agree with the leavers, they are real bad... Love that you are experimenting with making changes to the bike, keep it up!
There's a lot to agree with here. Vibration. Especially on 26 or at a consistent 70mph. Had to switch gloves to handle it. Pegs, I kinda got use to it. Cut the throttle in 1st or 2nd. If you're not ready or use to it. You're going over the bars lol. Other than those few things. I love this bike.
This bike is totally under rated. Your videos are the most useful for this model and just useful, lots of great ideas. Setting up a bike properly is all in the details. This will be my next bike and you really enforce that. I keep looking at slightly bigger bikes like the gsx s 750 but when I sat on the Z650, it just fits me. I feel that handling ,looks and enough power ,are everything. The Z650 is the total package.
Dang.. I have a 2019 Ninja 650 and every point you hit is spot on. I got some foam grips to help with vibration. My hands were going numb to where I had to consciously ride with my palm off the grips. The engine breaking is crazy stupid when you release the throttle. Sometimes I like it and use it, and sometimes it throws off your timing when shifting (to a point). I am planning on ECU flashing my bike this winter to fix it. Great video sir. Really enjoyed it.
First off love the videos! I have the 2017 ninja 650 and I agree 100% on the foot peg position and the tires! I'm only 5'2" and I put my feet down right where the pegs are!
As a Z650 owner, I agree with the exorbitant engine braking and the need for shorter & adjustable levers. I also agree on Tremonte's opinion about the stock tires, in the future I plan to purchase Pirelli Angel GTs. For me though, the stock mirrors do a great job, as long as they are adjusted to see past your shoulders; when I got my Z650, half of the mirrors showed my shoulder. My other gripes about my Z650 is (1) the high beam indicator light is way too bright, (2) Kawasaki should designed this bike with a small windscreen.
If I had to pick a few things that I'm not happy about the Z650, it would be the stock headlight bulb. I know this is an easy fix but I can't believe in this day and age that we are still using halogen bulbs. Even Honda (usually the slowest to release new tech) has LED headlight bulbs on their 500cc. Second thing about the Z650 is the slow rpm vibrations. If you ever try to accelerate or slow down to just under 2K rpm, the bike will want you to either downshift or clutch in. There is no way around getting out of that nasty vibration. Apart from these two, I have gotten used to the foot peg placement. Yes, it is directly in the way of putting my foot down at a stop but I usually just put my foot in front of the pegs and it has worked out fine for me.
I just bought the 2018 Z900 :-) Taking delivery (hopefully) next week. Man what a bike. And the 650 is no exception. Lots of Kawasaki attitude. Enjoy your bike man :-)
Thank you so much for your vids and links to everything! It’s difficult to find aftermarket parts but you’ve blazed that trail for me! About to do the exhaust, led lights, shorty levers, and power commander. I love he bike but all the things you said are my complaints, especially the foot peg placements. Had bruised up calves for a couple weeks when I first got it.
Kawasaki should have used a 270° crankshaft in the 650 with a counterbalance shaft. That would solve the buzzy problems that have been present since 2006. Also in this class, does it really need another power reduction for the new model? SV650 and FZ-07 both make around 10 hp more without any loss in real world efficiency. I've sat on all these mentioned, and the stock handlebar on the Z650 has the strangest angles of any bar. 2012 Ninja 650 bars were near perfect; they screwed the bar up on the Z. Of the Z and Ninja siblings, I would choose the Ninja. Of course I think there should be a law for 650cc motorcycles: Absolutely positively no fuel tank should be less than 4.5 gallons (17L). I don't care about a little added fuel weight, no one is going to kill me if I don't fill it 100%. I don't care about the physical tank size. Give me RANGE. I've owned 4 past SV650 bikes (one at a time) and they are one of those sweet spots that's hard to ignore. If Yamaha or Suzuki put a quarter fairing on their bikes, Kawasaki would appeal less to me than it already does in this company.
I have the 2017 Ninja 650 and I totally agree with the vibration issue. Just after the 4K mark, the bars vibrate so bad my hands--especially my throttle hand, goes numb. Love your videos, man!
180° crankshaft. Seems like the only engines in this configuration that don't buzz badly are the smaller 300 series. Otherwise the 650-690cc twins like the FZ-07 with the 270° crank is much smoother, of course the SV650 with the Vtwin is also a very smooth twin layout. Kawasaki keeps playing with motor mounts (Versys got isolators) but it can't stop the source of the buzz, the 180° firing interval.
"any vibrations that I can really feel" Sit on the bike with the engine off for a few minutes. Then turn it on, sit on the bike with the revvs at 6,000 rpm. There's a difference.
I have an '18 Ninja 650...essentially same bike and identical motor. My hands start to go numb after 40 miles and thing aren't all that pleasant even before that. A very buzzy, tingly vibration that is also felt in the pegs and seat...but nothing like what I feel in the bars. New Gel grips didn't help at all and I'm beyond disappointed. Will probably sell it although the rest of the package is stellar. Guess I'll pick up a used SV650.
I have a 2009 Versys and ironically most of the issues you've pointed out on the Z I also have noticed on my Versys. Exact same peg placement and catching your leg on it, same vibeyness between 4-5k RPM, probably worse on the Versys due to the notoriously buzzy upper fairing on the 1st gen Versys. Same clunky fueling down low (though US spec bikes are a far cry better in this regard than EU spec bikes, with are nearly unridable without the vac port mod and a fuel controller). I test rode a Z and honestly prefer the Versys if for no other reason than the better suspension, the front end of the Z was too soft for my liking. I also test rode a Z900 and that thing has absolutely amazing suspension on it, along with a beast of a motor.
Agree with your points, the foot peg position doesn't bother me and like you the vibration doesn't bother me either...though I acknowledge that its there. Probably an issue for some people. Great video!
Try Pirelli Angel GT's... Michelin copied them. Awesome tires with 10,000 mile range for cruising range. Excellent grip in all weather and they heat up quickly. Progressive fork springs up front with 20 weight oil firms the front up nicely.
Love the Vid's Tremonte .... I have to agree with just about everything you said was wrong with it. I'm 5'4" and the foot peg position is annoying but my calf's & shins (depending on which side of them i put my leg) are getting used to scraping them. The hard engine braking makes it very twitchy on the throttle in 1st & 2nd gear so only practice will help me get used to that as i can't afford any of the engine mods you've done to yours. You said the brakes felt soft and squishy .... well mine feel quite the opposite .... they feel like they got too much bite in them ..especially when i'm coming to a stop at traffic light/stop sign. At slow speed my brakes are very touchy ... i dropped the bike in my first week because of this (I wish i had had Shorty levers cos i broke my clutch lever). The dealer reckoned they felt ok or is it that my bike's so new that they just have not bedded in yet (only had it for 3 weeks & done 564km). Anyway regardless of all these minor problems i still LOVE my Z650
Brakes: proper heat cycles in whatever pads are installed are crucial for optimal function. Brake lines: make sure to bleed all the air bubbles out of the lines. Factory installations don't always accomplish this. Also, heavy brake use may heat the oil to boiling point which introduces bubbles. Otherwise steel lines, upgraded pads, and good oil with a good bleed solves most issues.
Coming from a Z900, I don't really notice the vibrations (because I also have a Harley lol). However, yes the pegs do get in the way kinda but I don't have too much issues with them. My heel does hit the exhaust and yep I wish they would sweep it back a bit. I agree with the tires, would prefer some michelins on there stock. The only thing I really want with the bike stock aside from abs is TC, all the other rider modes isn't necessary. Aside from that I don't think we can ask too much for changes because of the price point. And Tremonte, I don't mind the music but when you're riding turn it down a bit brother, I'm sure the lot of us would rather hear your Yoshimura growling! Cheers.
Same here. I've had a wide selection of bikes, and from riding cruisers with booming exhaust, this bike has no vibrations comared to them, lol. Yeah, I wasn't happy with the audio outcome. In rendering, it was much more subdued and quiet, but for whatever reason the volume got increased more than I would like. Still learning. Thanks for the feedback.
Tires: The factory tires are... meh. Got new tires after 10.000km, entirely different handling. Any thoughts of swapping bikes, which I had after test-riding other bikes, are gone. Vibrations: Minor vibration, but I can live with that. Guess they cannot change that since the engine is part of the frame. Suspension: Could be improved (too soft? or not enough dampening?). Other Kawa models like the Z900 are better. Maybe they could release a "performance model" which also has better suspension? And a few things which Kawasaki got absolutely right: Instruments, no rider modes, no traction control, the focus on agility and handling.
I'm 5'8 and foot pegs for me ain't that big of a deal but when I'm riding the gear lever is too close compared to the er-6n (what I trained on), other than that I can't think of anything that annoys me too much but I would like better tyres, for me it's a learner bike before I go bigger and hopefully go for the street triple rs.
Great observations there mate, I´ll definetely consider them cause Im going to buy one of those, and I loved the mirrors you got and those black clutch and brake levers, which brand are they?
I am experiencing a whining noise at random times when parked up after a spin. It lasts for around 5 seconds and is very disconcerting. Any ideas as to what it is would be appreciated, L.
I don't have the peg problem (6ft).vibrations yes. But nothing crazy enough to bother me. Also I feel like im being short changed on the red line. I feel like it red lines a wee bit too soon. Just my thoughts.
Power falls off at 9k on the Z and the Versys so no real need to push it all the way to redline, the little extra pull on the Ninja isn't even really that noticeable.
I heard somewhere that putting only an aftermarket exhaust on the Z650 even without a ECU repro greatly reduces the engine braking, can someone confirm this info?
To me, it felt like it slightly reduced the engine braking, maybe due to the AFR going lean and the O2 sensing that, compensates by adding a little more fuel. It only seems this occurs in the higher RPM range though. The low end still has the abrupt engine braking. The Rapid Bike ECU, or an ECU flash is needed to fully remove the engine braking.
Hi,thinking of swapping my versys 650, its heavy, very tall, and im 5 foot 5 and strugglin man handling in tight dodgy spots,im just a little worried the z650 will be rubbish on long touring trips tho,any thoughts.? Have you ridden a versys?
+Glyn Greenwood I have not ridden a versys. I just finished a four hour ride on the Z and have no fatigue. I didn't want to stop actually, but other engagements made me. Lol. There is a bag kit for the Z to allow for long trips, but I've not seen them in person. There is a recent post on www.kawasakiz650.com forums from a guy who just did a tour of British Columbia on a Z660. Maybe stop in and ask him how it did. The post is new and should be listed on the main page.
Good review from what I I could not take no more of it, I had to stop because the music! I don't like too loud!! second can somebody who reviews bikes for once in their life have someone ride beside them with the camera on them? I'm so tired of looking at the front wheels of a bike. I want to see the bike driving down the road. other than that not bad
Yup, gets a little better over 5k. Cruising at 80mph is less vibey than cruising at 65-70 aside from the extra wind noise. That isn't just the Z either. The Ninja and Versys are exactly the same way.
And a narrow 30.5 at that, the one I test rode i was easily able to flat foot, strange for me since I'm used to being up on the balls of my feet on my Versys.
Tremonte thanks for reply.. so there is no issue on bumpy bad off roads with Z650 ground clearance.I was reluctant to buy Z650 because of its low ground clearance.
PLZ stop use the emergencybuttom to stop the engine. You are destroying the buttom because of all the power going trough there. Use only the key as others do. Other than that kawa is a good bike. For now im driving a Honda 700 shadow myself but i want a newer bike later on.
The kill switch is wired in series with the key switch. No excess power flows through these contacts, nor will it cause harm. In the three + decades I’ve been riding motorcycles, I’ve never had one fail. Designing electrical control systems is my profession as well, and I have full faith that these switches have been rated for the minute amount of current that passes through them.
We all have different ways. No worries. The sidestand also is in the same circuit and can switch the ignition off. Those three things trigger a small relay that pulls less than 50ma of current, which in turn will pull in the larger starter relay. So rest assured if you ever use yours, you won’t be damaging a thing.
You my friend are full of shit. Maybe the 2018/2019 had that issue, but my 2021 doesn't do anything of the sort. Comfortable ride, vibrations are just fine.
Pls stop with this music... It is destroying the whole video...
TenebrayDE agree, music is way too loud...
+JungleEPC yeah, it wasn't supposed to be that loud. It was about half or less that volume when I started the render, like my other videos that I've had background music in. Don't know what happened.
As I´m owning a Z650 also, I appreciate Tremonte´s Videos...but please leave out the Background Music!
Between the exhaust and loud music I barely heard a word of that
i bought this as my first bike back in june and just hit 1000 miles, never riden another bike before and even i have a problem with the vibrations as i travel highway a lot. Prodigy I wonder if grip puppies might help for hand vibrations. I like them. They’re Cheap too.

Agreed about the music (volume)!

Wow thats a really good video 👍
I got me a 2019 ninja 650 coming my way in may .. thanks for the great videos .. I watch them all 😊
Poly motor mounts would make it vibrate more. It's a parallel twins I'm not sure what you're expecting.

And a super smooth motor. I bought one. haha
I really loved the z900 headlamps... Wished z650 hd d same
Surprise!
Agree with your points, the foot peg position doesn't bother me and like you the vibration doesn't bother me either...though I acknowledge that its there. Probably an issue for some people. Great video!
If I had an almost extra foot of leg like you do, I'm sure it wouldn't bother me either, lol.
haha! yeah good point man!
Vibration is normal for motorcycle....
Just bought mine because of u !
Thank u ! Tremonte.
Hi..how often should u change the chain spocket and oil
Try Pirelli Angel GT's... Michelin copied them. Awesome tires with 10,000 mile range for cruising range. Excellent grip in all weather and they heat up quickly.
Progressive fork springs up front with 20 weight oil firms the front up nicely.
Yep, went ahead and got these as well. Totally different bike when you put them on.
So what should I do about the jerky ness / bucking ?
Love the Vid's Tremonte .... I have to agree with just about everything you said was wrong with it. Awesome video @Tremonte. What exhaust are you running?
My Z650, I just got brand new runs fairly hot. Is this something you've encountered?
I'm 5'8 and foot pegs for me ain't that big of a deal but when I'm riding the gear lever is too close compared to the er-6n (what I trained on), other than that I can't think of anything that annoys me too much but I would like better tyres, for me it's a learner bike before I go bigger and hopefully go for the street triple rs.
Hey lad, whats the problem to my z650 it wont let me go into 2nd gear to push start it.
Great observations there mate, I´ll definetely consider them cause Im going to buy one of those, and I loved the mirrors you got and those black clutch and brake levers, which brand are they?
I got a 2019 ninja 650 .. the only vibration my bike has is in the right foot peg that’s pretty annoying

The bike needs the look of the 2010-2013 z1000 headlamp and windscreen
Nice road to play with a good bike
I got myself a z650 2018 for my first bike ever ;)
What is it exactly you did to reduce the engine braking? I am looking at getting this same bike.
Get the Mt07 no comparison
So did you do braided brake lines upgrade or not? Because i'm looking for it too
I haven't added them to this bike yet.
Where did u get that passenger seat cover
ruclips.net/video/galcw6JmQ4k/видео.html Assembly video with link to the cowl in description.
Airgo nomics huh? Never heard of it put that way. Tires are riders preference. So is everything else. Make it how you want it. Ya done good Corky.
Please leave out the Background Music!
There is a recent post on www.kawasakiz650.com forums from a guy who just did a tour of British Columbia on a Z660. Maybe stop in and ask him how it did. The post is new and should be listed on the main page.
What controller did you go with (referencing engine braking section)? I was plotting a PCV.

Great video.
Can you please tell me the mileage of z650.
And what model of yoshimura exhaust is that?
The exhaust is this one: amzn.to/2iUsf6d And I am averaging 57MPG over the course of close to 3,000 miles so far.
Thank you so much
curious about this vs a ninja
mujjuman the twin brother would most likely as it has fairings so theres really no wind resistance.
No more loud ass music while you are talking...not my taste of music..but I won't knitpick
I was going to pick one up last month but finances weren't good so next year it is
You can probably get a better deal at the first of the year on the 2017. Might be for the best!
Do a list about think don t like about z650. I can not listen nothing
What is the controller you used?
+Yanive Shmoel Rapid Bike is what I use
what covers that back seat

My opinion,, the Kaw 650 engine sounds like crap. Mostly with an aftermarket can. However it's a great street motor.
how is the pickup of the bike and what abt the top speed
Peg vibes are the worst in any gear around the 4-5,000 rpms
Yup, gets a little better over 5k. Cruising at 80mph is less vibey than cruising at 65-70 aside from the extra wind noise. That isn't just the Z either. The Ninja and Versys are exactly the same way.
Seat hight?
+xXFAM3XxDemon 30.5
And a narrow 30.5 at that, the one I test rode i was easily able to flat foot, strange for me since I'm used to being up on the balls of my feet on my Versys.
How is Z650 on bad bumpy roads ? Is its low ground clearance worry you riding on bad roads???
There is plenty of clearance. My fairing bikes are lower and there are no issues
Tremonte thanks for reply.. so there is no issue on bumpy bad off roads with Z650 ground clearance.I was reluctant to buy Z650 because of its low ground clearance.
I’ve not had any issues or even heard of anyone else experiencing clearance problems.
no need for music.... voice and raw sound of bike should be enough...
Designing electrical control systems is my profession as well, and I have full faith that these switches have been rated for the minute amount of current that passes through them.
ok, but in my eyes it is no use to use the button and the key. do you agree with me. easier to only use the key ,hehe.
We all have different ways. No worries. The sidestand also is in the same circuit and can switch the ignition off. Those three things trigger a small relay that pulls less than 50ma of current, which in turn will pull in the larger starter relay. So rest assured if you ever use yours, you won’t be damaging a thing.
Die Musik ist grausam :(
Music too high and annoying af, just remove it or tune WAY down
This bike is terrible my ass goes numb and vibrates alot
You my friend are full of shit. Maybe the 2018/2019 had that issue, but my 2021 doesn't do anything of the sort. Comfortable ride, vibrations are just fine.
@@xelnjare3945 yeh cus brand new duh
Man it sound like a 300cc bike.
Very bad music.
