PJ is just extremely versatile, that's why I love it. Also I like how on both pickups its high end is not so in your face like jazz bass, like you said.
Hey I know this is an older vid but I wanted to say thanks so much for your time making this and your other videos, very informative and entertaining! I'm trying to choose my first (well second but haven't played for many years) bass and today I was able to play a Squier PJ alongside a fender player jazz, and man something about that PJ just grabbed me by the soul. It's actually more versatile in a way and the sounds you can get out of it are something special. And I swear the fit and finish of the Squier was just as good, maybe even felt better than the fender. Hearing what a more skilled player such as yourself can do with a PJ solidified my decision. Anyway thanks again you earned a subscriber today!
Awesome looking bass. I just started getting into bass after a few years of guitar. Got a Squier Jazz Classic Vibe 70, but it felt like it was missing something. So I routed out the middle pickup cavity and ordered a new pickguard with a P-pickup hole, so now I have a PJ Jazz bass that I don't see anyone talking about on RUclips. Pretty much sounds like a PJ Precision bass but I prefer the Jazz neck and overall look of the Jazz as well...win-win.
Damn great idea. I was stuck between a jazz and pj for this Labor Day fender sale and I settled for a pj even tho I love the jazz look more. Didn’t even consider modifying a jazz like that
He can't stop playing and talking - i can't stop listening ;) The fretboard width is a big thing for me: comfort and what comes out is different. P or J (chicken or an egg) - the answer is PJ + knowing how to play.
Yo Johnny that bass sounds great man...I have a squier used p-bass that was given to me 5 years ago..it was broken so I had it it repaired and restored..I use to think I had the wrong bass..like I was suppose to have a J-Bass especially because I love funk music..but after years of practice I realized that it doesn't matter what bass u play..what matters is the player who plays the bass..and the magic they bring to it..I replaced the strings with flatwounds almost 3yrs ago..and have gotten much better over time..been watching your videos for some time now..big fan..you play so smooth and funky..you are a dynamic bass player..the funk is strong with you..please upload tutorials on how to slap thump and pop...I have been at it for a year now..and even though I have made progress I still feel theres alot more I need to learn...🎸
I also have tried to decide between Sire P10 and V10; Finally decided P10. I am satisfied with it but I still sometimes miss the jazz bass' both pickup sounds
That's what the p bass pickup in a jazz might be for. Hot rod jazz or jp or whatever. I am a guitarist and I'm just about to buy one I think, made in japan, and research if it's a compromise in p-bass tone territory which is the thing for me.
My problem is I’m so hooked on the neck of the USA jazz bass that nothing else feels right. Wish I could find a fender P/ J bass with a p bass body and jazz neck. I may need to build one.
That is Precision FSR Special Deluxe MiM. It has a Jazz maple neck 70' style with block inlays. I have one with passive pups (there is a model with active too) and love it.
I found this video searching for reviews between a Squire jazz bass vs their PJ bass package and now I feel called out. lol jk. This was a great video!
hI jOHNNY. Nice videos man. What do you think about da "fenderman" basses....you know, Fender basses that include music man humnuckers on it. Thanks dude.
Bruh !! I’m wit’cha on the MusicMan & PJ tip!! Own lots of Basses such as yourself but my “go to’s” …are my MusicMan Bongo 4 ,..A “Customed” Candy Blue/ Flamed PJ and…..an Ibanez ‘81 Musician 924DS!! Keep on Funkin’ em Bruh!! Humanity sho’nuf needs it ‘bout now!! b(‘_
For me to answer this question, I see it this way. I own a precision bass for that sound and I don't want to add a jazz bass pickup to that sound. I own two Jazz basses, a 4 and a 5 string. All of my bases have preamps in them. The five string has the original Fender preamp and the four string jazz bass and precision bass both have audere classic preamps in them. The preamp basically excite the tonality of the bass in my opinion and gives it the in-your-face Boost that passive basses just don't have. When I want my sound too growl, I'm going to use my P Bass but when I know I need a my sound to be in your face and I know I'm going to do a little soloing, I'll use my jazz bass. A lot of people will take a jazz bass and cut off the bridge pickup to try and get a p bass sound but there is something very distinct about the split coil pickup of a p Bass that the single-coil pickup of a jazz just doesn't do it for my taste. I love the feel of a fender therefore I only own 3 bases and they tend to do everything I need for the tonality I'm looking for.
I'd take a PJ over a Jazz or a Precision anytime. It just sounds modern, has that 'bass voice' I love since I first heard Duff Mckagan's lines for Guns'n'Roses. Nice video!
This guy needs his own TV show. Love it...
Agreed. The man knows what he's talking about, and he's got the voice and articulation for it.
And it doesn't hurt that he's got some serious chops!🙂
Imm.m. ready...lol
This man has so much experience and still has so much youth... How does someone grow to be so enlightened?
It really brings a smile to my face.

Wise words my man. Best answer ever! Love your charisma! Take care sir.

Sir, you never cease to bring a smile to my face and some knowledge to my brain. Thank you.
P bass is just thicker sounding, the j has more focused treble. I love them both, Leo fender was good at his job. Great video!
The single most entertaining bass channel on RUclips. Keep 'em coming.
when he said "i just wanna play" i hit subscribe so fast
Jazz funk baby, love it

Jemero Steez ...u are awesome brother..check out some of my other videos...thanks for you comments
I have a PJ. I wish it was a reverse PJ to fatten up the top strings. PJs sound excellent in a full band.
I thought the reverse PJ brightens up the E and A strings and thickens the D and G?
You answered your own question. I like the way P P sounds too Bro...! Lol
All jokes aside, great video as usual.
can you do a direct comparison between a pj and a j bass with both pickups on full & equal eq?
Perfect timing Johnny! I'm trying to decide between a Sire Marcus Miller PJ bass and a Jazz bass right now.
What did you end up getting?
I also have tried to decide between Sire P10 and V10; Finally decided P10. I am satisfied with it but I still sometimes miss the jazz bass' both pickup sounds
I have heard the PP sound on, Lowend Lobster and it is awesome.
@johnny long The world needs more content creators like you. So genuine and all about the issue at hand.
PJ all the way. Best of both worlds.
I am not a bassist, but a guitar player. I have to say that I prefer the neck profile on the Jazz bass.
That's what the p bass pickup in a jazz might be for. Hot rod jazz or jp or whatever. I am a guitarist and I'm just about to buy one I think, made in japan, and research if it's a compromise in p-bass tone territory which is the thing for me.
Johnny, me and my boy love your vids, he's too little play but he loves watching you. You're inspiring a future bass player
Jon Bouchard you can get a short scale bass at guitar center and other places they’re small and made for kids
You are silly Bro !! Love your sense of humor !! :)

@@garronwarwick6090 Sire PJ has a jazz neck

I have a jazz bass and a pj bass. I always thought the pj had a “warmer” “rounder” tone.
Great video! Now next thought. Maple Fret board or Rosewood?
Lucky Man ,a lot of people give their money for joint to get that mood ,but you are born with by nature
Peanut and Jelly Bass
Have always loved PJs.
hI jOHNNY. Nice videos man. What do you think about da "fenderman" basses....you know, Fender basses that include music man humnuckers on it. Thanks dude.
Love them
@@LONGCASTLE777 do you have one?
Brilliant as usual. Johnny 👌🏿❤️
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬 👊🏿
you got skills man. real funky.
Can you put a preamp in a Squire Fender Jazz bass made in Indonesia. Is it worth it?
Great Video.
Very good
Can you tell me which pickups are in your bass please? Cheers!
florjan ajdnik Dimarizo 123
Ur bass looks sick. And I wanted a j bass , i learned on P, but ive decided to get a pj as my second bass.
Hi Johnny. Love your sound. What model of pickups are those in your setup?
Watched this again. Thinking of putting a bridge pup on my P. :)
Where would u get a pj bass
Wise words sir.
Also, if I’m not mistaken, I remember BC Rich had some “PP” basses back in the day.
I'd take a PJ on anything over jazz.
Hey Johnny,.. could you do a Vid with a Steinberger Bass ? :)
What an amazing video for a pure beginner, which I am.
Hi Johnny, I love your channel man! I need your advice. Should I get the Ibanez TMB 100 or a Fender Squier Affinity or Jaguar? Please help!
Steinberger spirit has two emg precision pickups = P P
I agree with your answering yourself LOL. I love my Jazz basses, Well LOL I love all basses the tones maybe not, LOL. GREAT vid. Bro. Johnny
I'm Just Learning The Bass Now, Johnny!! I Want To Be Good Playing The Bass Like You, Bro!! :)
I'd go with a PJ and 3 socks
Do you still own that bass Johnny?
Great playing Johnny. I'll take that pawn shop bass for 40 bucks.
😂👍👍👍
Did it come to you?
Hey man what's the pickup spacing between the P and the J pickup? So like the bottom of the last P pickup to the front of the J pickup.
Se Bastian
Taint?
I've never heard a PP before lol
Big pp gang
I love your gear Johnny. You have great taste in basses,i have to ask man how are you able to afford all the gear. Are you buying and selling?
Can you play something on acustic fretless ?🎼☺
Most of the guys I know who are mainly jazz players don't play either as their main instrument
You wouldn’t happen to be located in Richmond, would you? I noticed your shirt, which happens to be my old high school.
Shop is on the west end...hit me up..come by and see me
Another great video from "The House of Cork".
You always have such useable info! And you play so sweet!
I'd personally take a jazz bass only because of the neck.
The pj bass the goat
Sick video thanks!
I would take a PJ over a J Bass if it has the J Bass body.
Get a j bass kit or cheap j bass and route out the neck pickup route for a p pickup
Sadowsky will do that for you
Are you using a fretless?
Esse cara é o máximo
Love it

Yeh the pj bass sounds brighter .
THANKS.......
Whats your "desert island" bass?
rbcastillo ...I would say...1975 jazz
rbcastillo I wish I had my 68 jazz bass or my 78 jazz bass.
Johnny, you are so skilled I don't think it matters which bass you play.

Vinícius Sasso Im here because of Duff too. He’s one of the best bass player out there!
R u in a club house
There's a P on reverb 1955 for 22k lol the person who deserves that bass can't afford that at all
Id like to meet this guy and have a drink with him while jamming on bass
I hope to get away with it too
You silly guy, loud mouth talk too much.go straightforward.
Thanks for watching
