    Still need to understand the hours and what's the cut off.
    If my 8 weeks rota is averaging 45 hours but, in week 2 i have 2 on calls and rest of the week off i.e. week 2 amounting to 26 hours, can I still do Locum in week 2 as I am allowed 48-52 hours work/week?

    • @RoadToUK
      @RoadToUK  2 года назад +1

      Yes. When in doubt, your rota office will let you know if the hours are non-compliant. If your hospital uses an app to book locums, it will also inform you if you cannot book an extra shift due to too many hours.

    There’s no point locuming as a foundation year doctor or core trainee doctor .
    Sure, you make extra money in the short term, but those gains are minuscule in the long term, when you compare to the hourly rates of a fully qualified consultant.
    It is more practical to use your spare time to do research , build networks and enhance your clinical portfolio.
    This will be of a more beneficial use, when you are applying to speciality training after FY, or higher speciality training after CT.
    It’s silly to use your spare hours for locum work and risk not being accepted into an ideal speciality training position of your choice.
    You will then have to spend an extra year working as non-training clinical fellow before applying in the next application cycle, while your successful peers are already starting on their specialty training.

    • @RoadToUK
      @RoadToUK  2 года назад +3

      You can locum and still build your portfolio. We did, as did many of our colleagues. What is silly is to expect people may not have expenses that may require them to locum, hence the information.
      And not everyone is concerned about getting into training or wanting to get to a consultant post in a flash.
