pretty sure the author confirmed zach broke out of jail for the final scene but i honestly think the hallucination version makes more sense, it fits the vibe of the overall story more and kind of ties everything up better despite being really tragic 😭

On a max security prison, I know that it’s an open ending but realistically speaking, for a man that is as stupid as a rock, breaking out off a max security prison is impossible, and for Rachel it seems pretty realistic that she’d hallucinate Zack there, as Zack had promised her, leading to suicide, sorry btw I analyzed this anime so hard back in 2021-2022? It’s insane
It’s an open ending but I don’t like the hallucination theory when there’s so much to debunk it like the glass and bars are inside the room which couldn’t happen since she was already from the inside so if she broke them it would be on the outside plus the police showed up and they wouldn’t have much of a reason to show up if zack hadn’t broken out
