    Fantastic video, Andy, and thanks for the little cameo!
    I also experienced a speedy start and slowdown over the third and fourth before picking things up for the fifth.
    Seeing the heart rate kicking up early, knowing Zone 5 is a ticking time bomb, and the gruesome, drawn out limbo of the fourth KM is going to take many, many race efforts to finally get used to, I feel.
    Ultimately: What an awesome effort by you along the river route that has graced us with many an Easy Session and the occasional interval.
    F*ck Zone 5 indeed!

    Stuck with me saying we’re not elites, sometimes we compare ourselves and if we don’t get a pb it’s a bad race but that’s not the case. I’m in a similar boat where I’ve been dedicated my whole summer to breaking 75 at the great north run and I’m praying it happens because I’ve put a ridiculous amount of work in but if it doesn’t I will try my best not to beat myself up about it like I always do if it doesn’t go right.
    Like you say it will happen eventually (I’m 22 so it better😂), just enjoy the process and we’re not elites no matter how much we think, this is a hobby and should treat it as one. Did great today mate, keep pushing that sub 20 pace is there, just got to keep at it and it’ll come!
    Hopefully see you at GNR if you’re doing it again, I’ll look out for you 😊

    • @itsonandy
      @itsonandy 11 месяцев назад +1

      It must be a lot more frustrating for you as you're running so much faster than me. 75 mins for the half is an incredible achievement, there's nowhere better to do it than the GNR? You done the race before? It's phenomenal. All the best for next week and enjoy your taper, hard work is done!

    Seems like a really friendly race, loved the little interviews at the end. Definitely know that feeling of sprinting off at the start… it’s so hard when there’s a big pack speeding away!

    Great attempt Andy, not far at all off your PB so don’t be too hard on yourself!
    It might be worth trying Pace Pro setting on Garmin. So you can set up a slight negative split or even, whatever you prefer. I find it helps stopping myself going off too fast and dying by the end.

      Good shout James. Yes I'm a sucker for going off too quickly and claiming that I feel "OK actually" after 3 mins so I don't need to slow down 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

    Totally agree Andy. Give me a half marathon any day over a full on 5k effort. 20 odd minutes of pure pain. 😊. Keep up the good work. I’m sure you will smash the half marathon.

    • @itsonandy
      @itsonandy 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks Neil, that 5k speed definitely takes you to some dark places. An all out sprint for 20 minutes for most of us mere mortals is just horrific.

    Well done, the 5k's always a tough one - i had the same experience (albeit i managed to push out a PB - one that kept eluding me for a year past when i thought i could do it!).
    The 4th km is usually the killer for me - i was lucky to have a pack to cling onto running into the windfunnel that's the last mile of the 5k i did 🤣

    Any race executed properly hurts like hell. The worst I ever felt in a race was at a club 800m. Lactic burn in the ears. Face trembling with pain.
    Do enough 5ks and you learn where the gears are and when to shift into each one.

    • @itsonandy
      @itsonandy 10 месяцев назад +1

      An 800m sounds like a few minutes of pure filth. Not sure I could handle the heat of the kitchen!

    Great effort. You can go +/- 10 seconds on the day for whatever reason. You're in pb shape. Agree about 5k pain. My sub 18 5k was far more painful than my sub 3 marathon.

    • @itsonandy
      @itsonandy 10 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers Dave. It's different kind of hurting isn't it, but because you're travelling a lot quicker the will to give up is much higher, but you know you're never gonna walk a 5k, so that pain cave gets worse and worse 🤣

  • @maxafc4695
    @maxafc4695 11 месяцев назад

    I’ve run many 5k’s (16:46 pb) and 1 marathon (2:57:29) and the marathon was 100 times harder. The last 8k of the marathon was running pain like nothing else. If you pace a 5k properly it isn’t that painful, sure you should be making yourself hurt in the last 2k, but for me at least running hard and fast is a good kind of pain

    Great vlogs, but imo worst possible choice of soundtrack, you were not on a leisurely stroll down the Miami boardwalk with a daiquiri in one hand, you were ripping out your lungs on a 5k, this warranted sterner stuff, why not something orchestral Wagner style.

    Not the ideal course for a pb looked like lots of twists and turns and people on route to avoid which takes more concentration and uses up energy..To be only a few seconds away is a good performance all in all...congrats

    • @itsonandy
      @itsonandy 10 месяцев назад

      Cheers mate, yeah it was definitely a race to be taken with a pinch of salt. Wouldn't mind having a proper go at a 5k race one day. People on the course was the hard thing, and they always take the racing line and I just felt like ploughing into them 🤣

  • @simonrunc8067
