Ahmad Ibn Hanbal says, "This ummah will be tested in their graves. When man is buried and his friends leave him, an angel with a mace will come, make him sit up and ask, "What do you say about the Messenger of Allah"? If that person is a believer, he will say, "I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger." The angel will say to him, "You have told the truth."

Wallahi I must admit, it feels like I'm lost and going down the wrong path. It's as if negative influences have taken control over me. I struggle to find the motivation to pray, despite knowing deep down how important it is. I'm sincerely hoping to find my way back to the right path soon.

Brother the fact that you feel guilt is a good sign that ALLAH SWT cares about you and wants you to turn back to him. Every cell in your body is begging you to turn back to ALLAH SWT, no matter how far gone you think you are there is always a chance to bounce back so never ever doubt the mercy of our Lord. The shaytan likes to make us feel like we aren’t good enough to be forgiven, but don’t fall for this trap, this is a tactic of shaytan to keep us in a constant state of self sabotaging behavior. We must remember that all guidance comes from ALLAH SWT and to ask him to keep us away from the wrong path and to help strengthen our iman since he is the turner of hearts.

May Allah bless you my brother and provide you with his aid. Keep reminding yourself about Allah and the hereafter. The more we remember Allah the more we will desire to be with Him and for Him to be pleased with us. Keep the Quran close to your heart. It is the key to knowledge and our guide in life. Ask Allah for help, and make dua for me too. May Allah give us both strength, this age is very challenging. The world around us is distracting us from Allah and pulling us away, we will only succeed with Allahs help and guidance.

I was going down a similar path my fellow brother. Completely lost in this dunya and then I remember hearing a talk which was actually taking place at a qabr. I felt tingles all up my neck and tremble at the punishments of the grave. I began reading Quran and realised my pronunciation was not upto scratch so instead I arranged a tajweed lesson weekly . It motivated me and actually gave me a source of happiness that nothing in this dunya could match . The feeling of being able to recite confidently , Alhamdulillah I thank Allah for guiding me . Istighfar is key to repentance and being humble.
General tips from my personal experience
      Read Quran and improve tajweed
Try to understand key phrases at minimum when you hear Jahanam or Jahiem or Akhirah etc think of how strong Allah swt is with punishment
No compromise in Salah WHATSOEVER treat it like it’s your final opportunity to speak to Allah as you never know when Angel of Death
Do Istighfar regularly especially night time read Ayat ul kursi before sleep with 4 Quls.
Also doing good deeds upon elderly sick those in need is filled with Barakah
May Allah make it easy for you

One of the best and most rewarded hadith you'll ever come across:-
Aws ibn Aws reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever performs a thorough ritual bath on Friday, proceeds at the earliest to the mosque, sits below the Imam and listens carefully without talking, he will have a reward for each step he took a year’s worth of fasting and praying.”
    Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 496
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani
Al-Qaari said in Mirqaat al-Mafaateeh (3/1035): One of the leading scholars said: We have not heard in the teachings of Islam of any saheeh hadith that refers to anything like this reward, meaning: one should make sure to comply with it in in the hope of attaining that reward. End quote.
Ibn Hajar al-Haytami said in Tuhfat al-Muhtaaj (2/471): It was said that there is nothing in the Sunnah, in any saheeh report, greater than this reward, so pay attention to it. End quote.

It must be pointed out however, that the 'grave' being refered to here in the Hadith is not the physical grave in which the perishable body is placed; it refered to the the place where the soul is kept and that is the barzakh state, here the barzakh is refered to the grave of the dead person in Islamic terminology and not the physical grave in which the dead perishable body is interred. Some people died bu drawing in rivers and their bodies are not found, others too are swallowed by creatures in the sea etc - if the grave is specifically meant to be the physical grave , then what will happen to their case since those cited people were not burried in physical graves.
The soul of the dead person is not restored in the physical grave in order for him to be questioned in the grave and then caused to die once again as do many scholars claim , otherwise it will amount to the person dying twice and the Quran clearly that those who actually die as decreed by Allah are not allowed to return to this earth as there's a barrier between the barzakh and this physical world. All those hadith statements are couched in metaphor and so to explain it literally will be misleading.

Munkar and Nakir basically have a connection with the ancient Mesopotamian Underworld god Nergal. In addition, some Zoroastrian religious figures like Sraosha, Mithra and Rashnu, had some characteristic effects on them. Wikipedia's Munkar and Nakir article has some interessant information on this subject under the "history and origins" title.

As Muslims never despair the mercy of Allah, you may have an earth full of sins, but with one act of goodness, Allah can wipe them all out and replace it with good deeds, Allah is always looking for an excuse to forgive his slaves, so we must continue to worship and get closer to Allah, so that we may attain his mercy and forgiveness.

Belief in the Last Day. Isthmian life. On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: When a dead person is buried - or he says: one of you - two black and blue angels come to him, one of whom is called: Al-Munkar, and to the other: Al-Nakir, and they say: What did you say about this man?
