    I could listen to Adrian for hours, I'm sure if he had his own RUclips channel just asking viewers questions each week it would be one of the most popular channels ever.

    I have been following Adrian's career since he was with Bobby Rahal in Indycar through his intuitive and hands-on approach to creating benchmark F1 cars. I read his book with great interest, but it is great hearing the stories first hand like this. Thank you!

    Newey, Byrne - surely the greatest designers/aerodynamicists in F1 during the last 40 years! Great to see Newey giving Byrne the highest respects! Maximum respect. Other than John Barnard who in his biography says that no F1 Designer since the 80's was innovative. Except of himself...Yes crazy John, of course! Also your improvements in aerodynamics...thats why your cars were always known to have bad aerodynamics in the 90's!
    Really good to see that Newey is a fair and humble guy, giving another great engineer and biggest opponent his respect, other than crazy Barnard.

    Interesting and impressive interview, liked how he respects Mauro Forghieri, Patrick Head, John Barnard, Gordon Murray, and Rory Bryne. I was slightly surprised he didn't mention his modern counterpart Aldo Costa who worked for Mercedes Benz's designer of the last 5 WDC/WCC and former Ferrari and Rory Bryne's protege.

    Great interview. with one of the genuinely great F1 designers. The best of the F1 designers introduce design features that often become the standard in F1. Chapman designed the first true monocoque; Barnard was the first to do a full carbon fibre chassis and brought the electronic gear change; Gordon Murray introduced push/pull rod suspension. Newey has done several things that gave such a large technical advantage they were banned (blown diffusers is but one) and the steep rake that is now a feature across the F1 field (he brought it from Indy car racing, but making it work across many seasons in F1 has been far more challenging). Newey's ability to "interpret" gaps in the rules is outstanding. Personally, I was disappointed with his comments on Mark Webber, although he acknowledged Marko's bias towards Vettel. To my mind, the in-car shots from Turkey show without any doubt that Vettel drove into Webber - Webber left little room, but he stayed on his line, so the lack of support for that and the "multi-21" incident clearly undermined Webber's place in the team. I suspect that if Webber had ignored team orders and passed Vettel for a win, Marko would have been furious, if not apoplectic. It was no wonder Webber felt the team and Marko in particular favoured Vettel.

    Now that Adrian's doing the RB17 track car, years after theValkyrie. I wonder whether he's already thinking of the LMP Hypercar regulations.
    "Balance of Performance" will kill any advantage except for perhaps durability, but LeMans would be on the cards and getting penialized HARD for being the better car would be his personal victory.

    It was a good talk show. However, I really wish that you had spent more time on the technological developments brought forwards by Newey.
    The time spent talking about mid-field drivers was, in my opinion, unnecessary, given that their history is already well documented. Newey's design leaps are not, in detail. It is very difficult to find good information on most of his Formula One innovations.
    Please consider this observation in future interviews.
    Thank you very, very much for, yet again, shining a light on the history of F1.
    Much appreciated.

    Great Interview with one of F1's best Designers ever! Very nice and gentle guy! And a real Genius! Great how he shows respect to other Great Designer, even his long-time rival Rory Byrne! Speaking about Rory Byrne i have to say - Adrian Newey is called the Michelangelo of Motorsports. But comparing Newey and Byrne for the time they both designed the F1 Cars of their teams - 1988 - 2004 - Rory Byrnes cars won some more titles than Neweys...and Byrne was even 1 year away from F1. So with every respect to Newey - i think Rory Byrne was really the best Designer during that era. But Newey always was more present and in the focus of the Media, and had a more risky approach with his designing philosophy, while Byrne was always in the factory, steadily developing a car, less present and Never in the focus of the media, as he only went to races one Time a year. And i think thats the why Newey, even if he was less sucessfull than Byrne if you compare them directly, still gets more attention. But i think Rory is ok with that, as he always was and wanted to be in the background. His sucess and genius known by the people who have to Know it, but without being in the Public and Media spotlight, he always avoided! Rory is the silent hero behind one of the most dominating eras of F1, together with his friend and more spotlighted Ross Brawn.

    Wow, what a worthless interview. Newey earns $10,000,000 a year at Red Bull (every year). The RAC are mainly a bunch of volunteers. Try to shrink the elephant in the room that you weren't paid off to not ask him any Ayrton Senna FW16 questions. Not a SINGLE mention of Senna or 1994. I hated Motor Sport magazine for their biased reporting back in the 90's and apparently nothing has changed.
    You may have asked Newey how he designed the aero mounting points of the 16 to be identical to the 14 and 15 and forgot that the 16 would be required to cope with a much greater latitude in ride height due to it being passively sprung. Hence the initial reduced driveability of the early season 16. But why do I bother. I have over 100 issues of Motorsport Magazine from the 80's and 90's and it is striking how not a single issue has any technical knowledge in it whatsoever.

    • @edfoster1447
      @edfoster1447 5 лет назад +1

      Hi gold333, sorry you think that we dodged the Senna story on purpose. The simple fact of the matter was that we had loads to discuss and we didn't have time to talk about everything. He talks about it in his book, which is worth a read. Best, Ed.

    • @edfoster1447
      @edfoster1447 5 лет назад +1

      P.s. I should probably point out that Red Bull had nothing to do with the interview! Adrian agreed to chat to us and I am certainly not a volunteer - I get paid to host the podcasts. Also, worth noting that the editorial team at Motor Sport is completely different - bar Gordon Cruickshank - to what it was in the 1980s and 1990s. Anyway, sorry you didn't enjoy any of it.
