Although their all based America, you're left with the impression that the officer is quicker then said offender. Therefor it is very comical when the officer is in chase still holding onto the dog, there's a clean sight of who their chasing. He lets the dog off the lead, which then takes a gentle stride over to the suspect who happens to be trying their hardest to escape and takes them down without issue.
Back in the early to mid 1980's I lived near a town/city that actually not only had K-9 units, but mounted units. When I rejoined the US Navy, they actually were in the final stages of getting a combo of a Mounted Unit with a K-9!!! (Try out running that!) And were about halfway through getting a second Combo Unit!
@Erwin Rommel Its all in the training and MOST Police and Military K9 units arent trained to highest degree. Theres this cool dude who does work with Special Forces K9’s and hes got his dogs and clients dogs around the world trained on Off Leash only. You saw the video of the Dog Handler Officer telling his guys to watch his corners, thats a useless guy on the field. & my German Shepards stop biting on command usually on the first or second time. Again its really all in the training like how some cops are horrible and others are more professional.
@Erwin Rommel That's just poorly trained dogs. Think about how dangerous that could be. I know that dogs are capable of doing tricks/commands the first time you ask them, I've seen AND had dogs like that. The police force just focuses on making it fast, agressive, and effective without remembering to teach it when to back off.
That's when the pup gets their favourite toy as a reward. Our K9 handlers used a "stick" made of tightly rolled up burlap like potato sacks but it's stitched together solidly in layers to last a while. The pup only gets to bite it when they've earned it. They will run forever in heat or freezing following a scent track and work tirelessly until they mark the target and they get let loose. All to hear praise from their handler and play with that stick. Funny though when the handler radios "dog's out" and the other officers hang back or stay in or near a car. I did see another officer get a leg bite because he ran up too fast to the guy on the ground and the handler pulled his dog back and the dog couldn't tell where the bad guy ended and the officer started lol. Nighttime chase and a lesson learned.

My father had a K9 unit and he is a Belgian Malinois. After 7 years of service, he retired and the state let us keep him as a pet. After years and years, he became mostly deaf (Partially from gunshots and mostly from old age) and blind in one eye (From old age). And now he’s a very old Teddy Bear of love that just slowly wobbles around and he’s the cutest. Imagine a retired war vet on the outside but he has a heart of gold on the inside. He’s getting extremely old though, so he could die any day now. I’ll keep you posted. Edit: Thanks for all the support! I am planning on making a compilation of him on my channel. Second Edit: Another thing you need to know. He does have a tumor, which does affect his health, but he has never shown signs of any pain or discomfort at all and we are choosing NOT to remove it because of how old he is, because he is about to die anyway. If you don’t like that, it doesn’t matter because I don’t have a say in it. Final Edit: he is dead. He died at 13 and was the bestest boy.

I remember years ago listening to someone on the radio talking about how criminals fear K9s. They were walking a beat in an inner city (I forgot which) and got a call. They chased the suspect but he gave them the slip. There were some broken windows in an old building that looked suspicious, one of the cops yelled into a window "Come out or we'll send the dog in!" The other cop started barking, and within a few minutes the suspect gave up and crawled out.
Oh does that bring back memories, the most fun I had in my 13 years on the job was working with my 4 legged partner. Rube you were a great Dog and I miss you.
This series literally made me cry with respect and gratitude for those pups. They are SO talented at their jobs. I loved when the one officer said “my partner got em’ “ after the dog successfully stopped the suspect. ❤
Seeing these painful takedowns by the K-9’s makes me glad that I’m a law abiding citizen. Ouch! I can’t believe these idiots think that they can actually run or hide from these trained dogs. That last guy getting bit AND tased simultaneously was definitely having a bad day! 🤣
Remember, even if you are a law abiding citizen doesnt mean that you could encounter some dickhead police with a dog and release it on you for no reason what so ever, My friend for example got bitten pretty bad by a police dog that they "lost" as they said when he was just walking home from a party, he filed a complaint and there would have been a trial in an other city so the police wouldnt take sides and cover each others but all of a sudden they hadn't done anything wrong and they dissmissed it. so he got scared on his arm for no reason at all. Swedish police right there

9:37 my favorite one so far , it’s so heartwarming how close the officer and the K9 are . “my partner got him.” , “don’t f*** with my dog.” and the constant praise !
My brother-in-law's old roommate was a K-9 officer and one the dogs he was training at the time lived with them. It was a Belgian Malinois (I'm a dog lover, but had never seen this breed before). We were playing with the dog in the backyard while having a few beers and I asked him what was the hardest thing to train these dogs in. He said "how to let go once they clamp down." True story.
German shepherds focus is 100% on what ever maybe at hand...from playing fetch to eating food or ripping someones face off. They won't stop until you get their attention, then their focus is 100% on the handler... I am owned by two German shepherds...you read that correctly, and both are one word command dogs, capable of multiple tasks from one command...for example...take the stick out, that's an outside toy and get the safety ball ,(soft) and bring... Never repeat the command, unless they didn't hear it, yeah, right, with those ears... I will then shame them saying something like, "What were you told to do? Out goes the stick and search for the safety ball... Now the first ball he finds he will try to pass it off, but when he knows thats not the ball you want, back to the searching... They both will come to me for clues or where to look ideas. I recommend keeping one hidden somewhere, because until they find one the search will never end.
Good thing you said "literally". I 'd hate for anyone to think you were speaking rhetorically. Or hyperbolically. Or ironically. Thank you for making that distinction.
what people dont understand about this whole k-9 crap is that they will usually not send the dog after a dangerous or armed suspect because dangerous people may injure or kill the dog . so now the question is , why are we letting these cops sick their dogs on unarmed or non dangerous people ? let that sink in .
I love how the first officer kept calling his partner buddy. “Get him buddy get him buddy!!” Idk why but it just shows how much the officer loves his dog and treats him as his equal.
Fun Fact: if you hurt a police K-9 unit, you are attacking a registered police officer and you get charged just the same as if you would attack a human officer.
I gouged an officers dogs eye out that dog whimpered out in pain and didn't want to attack me anymore that's for sure and now it is illegal in the state of Utah for officers to use them for anything other than sniffing dogs cause they were having there dogs attack people who were compliant with every order they just wanted to see there dogs attack people
@SekaCity, reading your comment I’m willing to bet you, or someone you love deeply has never been saved by a police officer. If you had you wouldn’t show such disrespect to them.
I have a German shepherd pup..even in play, untrained, their bite (and I know he is being careful with me) when your hand or arm gets in the way is just excruciating..
I got to participate in a training exercise with some military working dogs a few years back, and having one of those hellhounds chase you is terrifying. Even in a full dog bite suit, it was scary. The handler had me run as fast as I could across a field before she released her dog… he caught up very quickly 😂 looking behind and seeing the dog sprinting towards you is dreadful! Can’t imagine what it would be like without the suit! Great work from these dogs 👍👍
But if you are a fighter (or athletic) and you turn to face the dog you can pretty easily stop his initial lunge but unless you are willing to initiate extreme violence he will get ahold of you pretty quickly. I saw a naked man destroy an animal that was sent to attack him. The poor dog got medically retired. I love dogs and appreciate their strength. Every thing I said changes dramatically if it is a pit bull I must admit. If one of those is after you you are likely in big trouble and may even die.
For those wondering how the dog knows to get the bad guy and not the other cops, there are several things going on. A fleeing suspect's body language is very different from pursuing officers. The dog recognizes who is fleeing and who is pursuing. Also, the breeds used for this work are some of the smartest, most intuitive dogs in the world. With experience they learn that the good guys are usually wearing specific uniforms and the bad guy's aren't. And over time they get to know the officers and recognize them on sight and by smell. And most importantly, the dogs can literally smell fear. Perspiration from a calm person smells very different from perspiration from a stressed, fearful person. The dogs follow the scent of fear. There could be 50 people standing around and the dog could find the one bad guy who had been running from the police just by his smell. But, I've also seen K9s get I wrong. It doesn't happen often, but cops do get bitten by K9s sometimes. Many cops make a special effort to meet the K9s in their department and spend time with them occasionally.
A - there are numerous things that happen in training before a department gets a dog that contribute to a dog "knowing" who is who - really none of which is what you mention, with maybe the exception of suspect body language. B - dogs sometimes bite their handlers because of the fight drive they have. These specific dogs, the ones that sometimes nip at their handlers, have a lot of natural, high aggression and high fight drive. So in the moment, they are working off adrenaline. Once they "come back to their senses" then all is well. Make no mistake, just because a certain breed is used doesnt mean they can or will bite a person in the fashion of a street dog (k9). It takes specific breedings, with specific training, and specific dogs with tested nerves in order to be in this line of work.
There is one other factor that is unproven, that is ESP, the dog may be able to read the mind of the officer AND the perp and be able to figure out quickly who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. Besides all the factors you described, which are spot on! I've seen this remarkable ability with my own dogs and know it's real. it is quite factual that sometimes, especially if you and your dog have had a close, long-time association, that your minds can be attuned, and the dog knows what you are thinking! it can't be proven because the dog cannot verbalize to confirm it, but I've seen it too many times to discount it!
An officer came into the place I work the other day and when I noticed he had "K-9" on his uniform, I asked him about his dog. He told me he trained his dog himself to detect/find guns and any gun parts. I found that to be so incredible, I had no idea they could do that. His dogs name is Bullet too, such a good name for a dog with an incredible skill!
Dogs did a sweep of my school parking lot when I was in High School and hit on a kid's car. The kid thought it was a joke as his father was the resource officer at the Elementary School across the street from the high school. The car used to belong to his dad. A bullet had fallen into the AC vent back when it belonged to the resource officer. That was enough for the dog to hit on it.
I actually think it is very rewarding to hear them yell when the dogs find them. And the thought that the dog is still there keeping an eye on them makes them cooperate. YES!

German shepherds focus is 100% on what ever maybe at hand...from playing fetch to eating food or ripping someones face off. They won't stop until you get their attention, then their focus is 100%
on the handler...

But if you are a fighter (or athletic) and you turn to face the dog you can pretty easily stop his initial lunge but unless you are willing to initiate extreme violence he will get ahold of you pretty quickly. @@timengineman2nd714 I find that hard to believe
Honestly the dogs look so happy to be working, only dogs I see this happy are working breeds. my moms farm dogs are always running around crazy happy.
I didn't see a single dog injured or killed in these videos. They were unjustified as these were noncombative suspects.
Not necessarily true my dads a k9 officer and I’m fights they automatically go The Who Evers in bottom hoping the cop is winning
I have a medical alert service dog and it’s insane to me how smart dogs are and you can basically train them to do anything
And probably because his dog bolts out of his squad car like a bullet when needed
That's so freaking awesome 🤩
The k9 in my hometown when I was a kid used to be named bullet too lol
Dogs did a sweep of my school parking lot when I was in High School and hit on a kid's car. The kid thought it was a joke as his father was the resource officer at the Elementary School across the street from the high school. The car used to belong to his dad. A bullet had fallen into the AC vent back when it belonged to the resource officer. That was enough for the dog to hit on it.

Respect to the officers who treat these dogs with the same respect like any other officer. Too many times have I see them get treated like tools and not living breathing creatures. They deserve the best, Good boys 💙
I dont think you see that at all. They are sworn officers just like any human officer. And the penalty for hurting or killing one of the K9 officers is the same as if you did that to a human officer. They are highly regarded and are equals in the eyes of every department.
@@LMBC6Brian unfortunately in most cases it’s not true. I really really wish it was. While yes is most places it’s considered a police officer, the court won’t find it the same penalty when it comes to murder charge. If you kill a police dog you won’t get life or death penalty (in court). Obviously I see why because human and dog, though I do sometimes wish it was the same.
Respect ? treat them like any officer? I would never send my dog after someone from whom i dont know if they are armed or not. They are simply willing to sacrifice the dogs cus they are just tools. Tools because them officers cant do the job by themselves.

I had the pleasure of having a German Shepherd through elementary middle and high school. He was my best friend his name was johnny. He protected me on several different occasions one time a pitbull was charging at me and just about got me, but Johnny came to the rescue and tackled the dog and chewed on its neck and held it down. One time, some creepy guy came on to our property and Johnny pinned the guy up against the tree barking in his face but didn't bite him but the guy was super terrified. He was literally shaking. All I had to tell Johnny was to stop and he did instantly. He came from a family of police dogs although we never trained him on anything other than how to shake.
May Johnny rest in peace 🙏

I grew up with a GSD. She treated and interacted with my two older brothers and me differently, playing rough with my brothers and gently with me. I remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old a strange man came to our back gate when I was playing nearby. She charged that man so fast and made sounds I had never heard before! She scared him so bad that he fell backwards onto his back and then ran off. If he had made it into the yard it would've been really ugly!
They guard their family! The best dogs to have
They’re the best breed by a long shot
That's why these animals need to be put down. They dish out punishment without a trial. They are a danger to all that come around , no different than leaving out a loaded gun , looking for a victim .
@@averywood4573 yup.. come to my house without an invite and you’d receive that same capital punishment from my gsd. They’ll protect with their lives and a tenacity you can’t match. I just love hearing these criminals crying out when the dog does what it loves. Amazing how frightened these tough criminals are of the dogs. Gotta be one of the best assets for law enforcement.its amazing how many think they can outsmart the dog 🐶
I hate to admit it but so do I 😆
I don't have to outsmart a dog. I COULD just blow it's brains out and leave a nice puddle of blood and teeth on the ground. The problem with that is killing / hurting a police dog is the equivalent of assaulting / killing a cop so is it really worth it? The dog isn't an intelligent creature , it's just a conditioned one.

Fun fact! Rottweiler's used to be used in the police force. They stopped using them because the Rottweiler's bite force was breaking people's bones.
Yep, lots of PPSI in the Rotties' jaws, more than most other breeds.
Same case with the Doberman more specifically both American and European versions were used in the 80's I think. They stopped however because Dobermans were extremely loyal and if there human partner passed away the dog could never be used by another officer
Another reason was that Rottweilers could’ve been easily distracted by a flying insect, or something else during their mission.
I believe some countries in Europe still use Rottweilers.
