Also the cost of running a store, even if it was a small, independent one where the maker itself was selling it or online it would need someone working there making a living. There’s no way it could’ve cost $250.
Exactly. They have well paid designers and creative involved in coming up with their designs and maintaining brand integrity. They also need to price it to compete with other luxury brands. If they dropped their prices their brand would also drop to a lower ‘tier’ in the Luxury market beside Kate Spade and Coach. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but that’s probably not how they want to position their brand. We have to think about fashion like we do art in a lot of cases, a painting is not priced based on just the raw materials and time of labour, it’s the vision and the artist (brand) that gives it its value.
I love how you break down hownthese bags are made and why some should be priced like that or why are they ridiculously expensive when they're not really great with materials. Thank you for quenching our curiosity. ❤
I think we should include the work of the designer into the cost of the whole bag, we are in the end paying for a well designed and pretty to look at product. Firstly someone needs to design the product, then we need to include the cost of the material and then the actual craftsmanship. That bag is art in a way so the artist mustn't be forgotten about.
I can see that adding a few hundreds to the bag, but thousands? And they sell the same design over and over, so they could add $250, sell 10 bags for $500 and make $2500 off the design alone, $5000 altogether. Instead they're making $22,500 off selling 10 bags. And I assume they probably sell more than that of one design of the bag. I suppose I can see this bag being sold for $1000 as reasonable, but I really can't see myself spending more than $100 on a bag. I get it'll last a lifetime, but I think I'd rather change bags every year at least than use the same few for forever. Even if I buy a $50 bag twice a year for 20 years, that's still $2000, less than this one bag.
The strips of leather being woven normally are much narrower, making much more work. I have read that Bottega Veneta has said that the intrecciato of each bag needs to be done by a single person. If a person is partway through a bag and then falls I’ll or goes on vacation, the bag waits for that person’s return. If that is the case, then your estimate for labor may be ‘way low.
120 dollars for labor is way too cheap. For this bag to be conceived and sold, it has the work of the craftsperson of course (which alone I would already put as more than this), but also the designers (specially), the marketing team, the store vendors (or ux/ui designers + developpers if you bought it online), photographers of the collection, models who posed with the bag... And also probably a bunch of other people I forgot. Of course one bag alone is not supposed to pay all this people, but the costs of the whole chain is diffused into every product. I’d love to see him deconstruct bags from artisans, and discuss quality and price in comparison to popular designer brands. I would love to see fans of quality leather purchase more from independent craftsmen.
This is what I like to hear. The least the designer brand owes to its loyal clientele is using top of the line quality raw materials. I hate it when they use trash materials and still charge $6k for a bag that they used ~$300 to make.
Respect! Glad that, even though Bottega was bought by a conglomerate is still not sure if it’s LVMH or Kering. Irregardless I’m so happy they still uphold their standards.
I’m seriously always going to consult the man for bag quality. Leather craftsmanship is a beautiful art and if I would ever own one of these bags I want to make sure it right
I remember one of my grandmother's luxury brand bag had a chip like that. Her purse was damaged from burglary. It seemed like they didn't knew how to unlock or open her bag that they cut thru it or something. And I remember seeing a chip like that as a little girl. It's sad but we got robbed on our vacation in my grandmother's vacation house in another country. That didn't matter to her but our safety.
Ever since I saw a Lady Dior in the same fabric as a book tote I just said wow fashion companies are like financial institutions now. Lol - The genius of creating a product with such an easy material to produce since it’s all made on a loom and then just cutting it in the shape of a shopping bag. $0 on lining, hardware etc and it’s still as expensive if not more than so many full leather bags! Just like Nike investing heavily in the creation of fly knit year ago - fabric bags are the real money makers because they don’t even require high craftsmanship.
I'm not a leather or accessory designer, but I am interning at a high-end small designer clothing brand and it really shocked me how many costs and people are needed even for a small indie brand. Not only do you have the design team, but there's the production team, PR/social media team, IT, photographers, photoshoot models, fit models, pattern cutters, pattern makers, pattern graders, sample makers, QC, and of course the factory workers. Plus there's the materials, machinery, shipping, etc. costs, and every single design often has to be remade from scratch (which means you have to have the design/production/cutting/patternmaking/grading/sample making teams redo all the work and rebook the fit models, plus using up more materials) multiple times before the finished product is released, and many of the garments go through multiple factories because many factories don't have certain machines or people trained to do certain techniques. I imagine (other than certain things like fit models, size grading, etc.) that making a designer bag is a similar process and that there are way more hidden costs than just the lambskin and sewing.
I wish hed also include the design costs in the estimate because per bag youre paying for the leather & craftsmanship, but the amount of money that went into designing, prototyping, sampling, finishing, and QC is distributed over a product line like this
It’s true that Bottega has ALWAYS been known for TRUE leather quality & craftsmanship, AND yet this guy is STILL making such a valid point on the extremely ridiculous pricing. I think most of us at some point have just tried to tell ourselves that these bags were of the quality in proportion to their cost when we know we’re just paying for the brand name 😬🙈🙊🙉🙀😹
Eh, yes and no. He's not counting design, pattern drafting, QC and distribution type stuff, nor rent or utilities for facilities to design, make, package and ship them from, nor marketing costs. He's JUST talking the bare minimum cost of materials and assembly itself and that's coming to 250 already. Keep in mind that with almost ANY physical product, let alone ones that are produced and sold in relatively small quantities, that eveb without any other costs, that 250 then has to be at LEAST doubled to get the Wholesale Price, and then (if it is sold through a store they don't own directly or that has extra costs) generally doubled again to get the Retail Price (MSRP). Unless something like quantity or materials change, the Wholesale Price HAS to let them, given enough sales, cover ALL costs associated with making the item, including design stages and any testing, and still actually make a profit. If they only sell through their own stores (not familiar with the brand so I wouldn't know) then the profit margin is able to be a bit higher obviously, but. If this were like most high end brands - sold in other stores - you can't not have a discounted "wholesale" price or stores won't be able to try to sell it for a profit. So, you're already looking at something that should, by normal standards, be priced over $1000 retail MINUMUM, or else the original company wouldn't be able to design, make and distribute them, without going under. In other words: t's $250 to purchase the supplies and MAYBE pay for assembly, but if that's all you paid for, you would have nothing to assemble, nowhere to assemble it in, nowhere to store it before sale, no way to market it, etc. So all that considered... if you like the design, that's a not unreasonable price. Expensive? Yes. Especially from my perspective since that's more than a single 2 week paycheck... but for real leather in good quality put together well, in a color and style you like? Not unreasonable. It's just unfortunate that this kind of thing isn't a "slight" luxury for the average worker, but utterly unreachable for many on anything other than secondhand market at best. Like trust me, I would love to not have to use plastic crap or cheap thin fabrics for my clothing and bags, but Fast Fashion being the default means that's the widely accessible option until I actually get skilled at sewing 😅 which on the Making Clothing and Bags level, is gonna be a while.
That thing you call a chip is an NFC badge. It stands for near field communication and it's often found under labels of stuff you buy from the store. Like in Old DVD cases if you lift up the label you'll see like there's a little sticky thing with the chip stuck in it. It basically contains something like a UPC product code. Good for ringing it up. They can contain information such as a serial number if it's a limited run. It could have just been sewn in there to make sure nobody steals it from the store because if they like go through the little security scanner things it would set the alarm off. NFC badges are used for a lot of things but they don't have any internal power supply themselves so they're not like a tracking device like those apple airtag things.

I’m not surprised because Bottega always has amazing leather bags, for sure is worth buying those bags. ❤
The chip?????
I’d love to see him deconstruct bags from artisans, and discuss quality and price in comparison to popular designer brands. I would love to see fans of quality leather purchase more from independent craftsmen.
You should do more affordable brands too like Coach and Michael Kors
Nah they're more easily affordable cheap high Street shopping bags. Not worth chopping into.
Michael Kors is not a premium brand.
He has done coach. Check his shorts.
Pointless to do Michael Kors. They don’t even *look* well made. He’s done Coach.
The coach was disappointing.... Micheal kors is crap anyways
I have two Bottega Venetta bags and the quality of the leather is superb👍👍
This is what I like to hear. The least the designer brand owes to its loyal clientele is using top of the line quality raw materials. I hate it when they use trash materials and still charge $6k for a bag that they used ~$300 to make.
I own two Bottega bags and they never disappoint!
I used to work for them, and I can tell those 250€ are spot on.
...but what is the hidden chip for? are customers are aware of the chip in the bag they buy
@@universeofopulence that's what I want to know
The chip is kind of an “identity card” when you put your phone close to it it should open a web page with the bag’s details. But it never works haha.
@@VIVIEWHITE ... did you inform the customers about the chip when they bought the bag from ur store
Respect! Glad that, even though Bottega was bought by a conglomerate is still not sure if it’s LVMH or Kering. Irregardless I’m so happy they still uphold their standards.
I’m seriously always going to consult the man for bag quality. Leather craftsmanship is a beautiful art and if I would ever own one of these bags I want to make sure it right
The way my heart dropped with those scissors! 😱 Awesome review though 👏🏻
Thank you for these reviews!!
Thanks for helping people to wake up and perhaps better their relationship with money.
Must be hard being rich
what you do is amazing !continue to raise awareness against abusing animals !
Please do a review for a lady dior bag. Your videos are very helpful!
Excellent. Your insight is so helpful
Gawd the color is beautiful! Like cream.
I have some bottega Venetta sneakers and the leather feels amazing!
Love this, thanks for justifying my future bottega purchases, bottega boy through and through
More reviews like these pls!
Thank you for giving us this information because when you buy something at that price!!! This is a really good bag
I wish hed also include the design costs in the estimate because per bag youre paying for the leather & craftsmanship, but the amount of money that went into designing, prototyping, sampling, finishing, and QC is distributed over a product line like this
prototyping, sampling, finishing, should not be considered into the price, those are costs that you take as a business
The highest end bag I own is a Dooney and Bourke, small messenger bag, but I am obsessed with these videos.
As a Bag lover I feel sorry for the Bag. But at the end I feel relief abd happy to know if the price of these Branded Bags are worth it
The bag retails for about $2700 USD. It’s not even close to worth it.
I’m loving this channel. Once again, I would like to see a piece of TUMI leather goods evaluated. Thanks👍🏻
And where is the publicity, taxes, cost of the stores...
Cost of paying employees as well
I just bought the small one in lambskin blue color for $1523 on sale and am so glad i found this video about the material:)
Wow, thank you! Would be nice to hear your opinion on BV jodie bags, worth the price? 😊
Nice ❤ it! Glad to know because 1) this absolutely is my favorite bag to carry 2)currently own 4. 3) I plan to buy more.
You got my respect!
Theres overhead & profit too. The bld they make these bags cost rent, lights, heat supplies etc etc. Fyi...luv these videos
Can you try the dior wallet? I like the feel of it and it holds a lot of cards etc but I’m not sure it’s worth the price😢
I’m so happy to have found your channel, this is information that the public at large needs to know. Thank you for the effort!
When you are so frustrated with unreasonable high price for such so so quality, you gradually accept a high price for a good quality 😅😅😅
My love for Bottega after seeing this review 📈😍😍
Do you assemble the bag again?
😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dobrze, że o tym mówisz, nie dowiedziałbym się inaczej.
"I've never seen intricate design"
Me who use woven rotan bags: 🙂
What’s this CHIP used for imbedded in this bag?????
Thats what im wondering lol
Possible for theft or authenticity 🤷🏽♀️
@@TinaNewtonArt thanks!
I assume it’s one of those:
1. To find it if lost
2. Authentication
3. Some sort of other smart feature
4. _The government is selling bags to invade your privacy (?)_
I love BOTTEGA VENETA
Don't forget they offer lifetime warranty on the bags.
Love this review, so helpful and educational. Love the color too.
Can you do Loewe?
@baratom there’s a short on his channel he did with Loewe and another brand (side by side) Check it out!
Bottegas designs are so beautiful
What's the chip for
Identification. If the bag goes back to the company for repair that's how they know it's not a copy. Helps with resale too.
Interesting
I really love bottega’s look and quality
Omg, I'm sick. He destroyed that expensive bag 😭
It’s a bag! They are destroying children. Be sad about something actually worth being sad about. Smh.
👏👏👏👏love this….. we had to do things like this in Fashion School-Science was applied. I learned so much.
It's also too heavy.
My hometown in Italy is where they make them. My aunt works for them now, and I worked for them when I lived in Italy. I love their leather. Vicenza is known for the leather work. It is definitely expensive though. That is one of the cheapest purses. 😅
I think this brand is very centered on their leather products and that’s why the leather and construction was of quality. Brand i would like you to try are coach- leather centered but more affordable, and diesel. Diesel is a fashion house that is centered around leather and using it in new ways. I am in no way a leather professional but I do really enjoy a good leather bag. Thanks for the great content!
Who else winced when he cut it up but fantastic review!. 💕
Chip!! Whew!! He approved 🙌 👏 buy buy..
This video hurts my heart but is so fascinating at the same time 😅
Just discovered this guy. I’m loving these videos. I am in the market for a high end bag but I don’t want to default to Louis Vuitton because it just seems so played out. Now I have a little impartial opinion on bag quality to help me make a decision.
Bottega Veneta are the best bags 😍
Other reviewers: hold the bag up carefully to the camera.
This man: takes scissors to the bag, uses a bunsen-burner type thing and sets fire to it and disassembles it* He is the King of reviewing products. ✨👑✨👑✨👑🌟✨🌟💛✨🌟💛🌟We should subscribe to pay him back
I love Bottegas simplicity dangggg more reason to love it more
This is the brand I covet. Thank you for the review!
I love this channel!!
Your lovely video definitely need a Hermes exotic handbag 🤭🤭🤭
I love near bottega veneta farm in Italy ❤️ glad to Watch It here
I really love these videos. Very informative and interesting
It’s not just about labour and materials. The premium is the design, marketing, store fronts, distribution etc etc
That bag is actually so cute
