Sorry to hear about your injury. It may be helpful to see a specialist if you are worried. They can determine the extent of your injury and recommend the best plan for treatment and recovery.

Type 4 FDP Tendon injury here with bony avulsion fragment - im not sure how far the tendon has retracted, i hope just to the level of the PIP, although I do feel some pain in the palm. Complication: It's been 3 months since the injury- I only have X-rays and didn't take an MRI to see how far the tendon has retracted.
Surgeon is saying she would use a pin through the fingernail to fuse the bones back together and suture the tendon.
should I be getting an MRI to see how far the tendon has retracted before the surgery? is there a reason the surgeon didn't ask for that?
also, what are your thoughts on 2-stage flexor tendon grafting, the surgeon never mentioned this though i saw on youtube that it is indicated.

What if the tendon is only partially ruptured ? Can rest and immobility be enough or surgery is needed in both cases ? Seems like it happened to me when practicing judo, I am still able to bend my thumb but not as much as I could before, that's what makes me think it's only partial if not something else

Recent studies suggests that partially torn tendons may not require surgery for good results, and may heal correctly with splinting and exercise. But tendon ends must be touching to be able to heal. This is best determined by a doctor who can do a thorough examination and accurately assess the extent of the injury. We cannot comment on your individual case, but definitely recommend seeing a doctor to make sure you have the best outcomes.

Is it fixable if the injury is long time ago? it happen 3 years... i guess.. because i accidentally cut my finger with a knife and i thought its not deep and my friend said to me that its gonna heal. Till now i can't grip my finger like in your video

We recommend you see an orthopedic hand specialist and they will be able to evaluate your specific case. If left untreated, the tendons can remain severed and you can lose the ability to bend your fingers.
