What did you think about the ending of No Country For Old Men?
I thought it was boring it should have been more
I pondered the idea that Bell was killed by Chigurh and went on about his business without realizing he was dead. The alternative to that idea is also very strange: that Bell walked right past Chigurh, but was incapable of perceiving him. I had to wonder, too, if Chigurh was actually a physical presence, or something like the spirit of money.
I think the movie was great but I think you need to watch it again because the money was picked up when they killed Llewellyn, and as usual you didn't explain literally anything other than walking us through the events of the entire movie and hardly touching on anything at the end

There’s not an end to the movie, that’s the point. The whole movie is just a glimpse into a horrific scene of crime, and then the crime is over and life continues on like it always will. The whole movie is pretty much a small moment out of an entire day, like passing by a car wreck on your way to work.
That will one day be answered and visible to all (even who satan really is) at and during the Great White Throne Judgement Day of IAM God the Father, God The Son and God the Holy Spirit. But always remember this as one filled with the Holy Spirit of God. There is never an ending in eternity, only a beginning. Since Yeshua Hamashiach said he was the only way to the Father and also said that he only was the way, the truth and the life I would suggest to do as I did at the age of 24 on 12-26-1983; Give your life to Yeshua! Then eternity begins as the abundant life Yeshua promised truely begins.

Yeah that's probably what they meant with it still a shame though that there wasn't some big climatic battle between all the main players that were left but at the same time the way that you described it it makes sense.
Why make a movie then lol
Not gonna lie, as much as I loved the movie, it lost me once once Moss was killed. It felt so anticlimactic, then everything that happened after that felt random. Like Anton being in a car accident.
That's exactly the point the movie is trying to make. When the apparent protagonist is killed offscreen, by anonimous characters that aren't even the antagonist, we are left with a sense of disorientation and confusion that mimics the same disorientation and confusion experienced by sheriff Bell (the real protagonist). We were expecting a kind of final battle between "the good and the bad", as if this would have brought meaning to all that violence, but the reality is that there is no real meaning at all, it was all really a sequence of random and meaningless acts, like you said, that in the end results in nothing. And it's exactly this incessant and meaningless violence that ultimately makes the sheriff feel defeated.

You see what they do for views
First of all....I believe Ellis was Bell’s older brother, especially when Ellis tells the story of “uncle Mac” being killed. Also, I think Bell realizes he’s too old and no match for the new breed of evil and violence that is coming. In the dream about his father, he states that his father is at least 20 years younger than Bell is now. And the fact that his “younger” father is going ahead to set up camp shows that Bell feels that it’s the younger generations time to take his place in law enforcement, hence the title.
Don't know about Ellis but I think you nailed it otherwise. Lot's of other "stuff" around, giving plenty of room for tangential discussion but I think your explanation is spot on. Good job!

Anton was not in the room. Evidenced by the fact that the vent cover and screws are on the floor. He had already come and gone. This scene was to illustrate the boldness of Anton, coming back to a crime scene, and to show that Sheriff Bell hasn't dealt with anyone like this before.
Chris Morris he WAS in the room. They showed him in there before Tommy Lee entered it. He had a feeling someone was in there and that’s why he took out his gun. But he thought he had just missed him and that he left before he got there

For me, Javier Bardem’s character was the movie! His performance and his story are as great as any I’ve ever seen. Imagine running into someone like him! That moment you realize he’s not stable and you don’t matter to him.🥺

1. Hide-and-seek didn't work with the money.
2. Making ultimatums didn't work on returning the money.

He was a cold-blooded killer. The movie was never about the money.

The money was taken by the spanish people. The person who helps Llewellyn's wife's mother knows his whereabouts and reaches there to take the money from him. That's it.
The Protagonist(Chigurh) comes much later to the crime scene and doesn't find his money. He's followed by sheriff who sees his reflection but runs to toilet instead of shitting his pants. He's miraculously spared by Chigurh
Llewellyn's wife is also killed bcoz the Killer never leaves anyone who's against him.
Sheriff at the end sees his ending as inevitable because the country is full of people who kill others for money and for drugs. With psychopaths loose ,
He imagines he'll soon be with his dad as things are gonna take a turn for worse.

Chigurh is an antagonist in this movie and I feel there's a subtle interpretation when two young guys on bicycle, one of which who offers his shirt, the creators were telling something SMH
I’m as confused as ever! This video explained nothing.
It’s simple. The story is not the chase. The story is about how good men (Tommy)have to find it in them to face evil (Chigurh). The reflections in the TV screens and the door knobs. Tommy Lee can’t believe how violent it is nowadays, the old timer tells him it was even worse before. In other words, there is an eternal struggle between good and evil that is not going away, no matter how much you might want it to.
I wasn't sure at first, but this is a true classic, a very underrated movie.

@@jeffreysalvador7076Yes remember that one scene where the guys blood is inching near Sugar's boots and he props his feet up on the bed? He had a thing with getting blood on his boots. So he always checked em after he killed somebody. Probably OCD. That is why he is so good at his job. When he zeros in on something he obsesses compulsively about it till he gets it done. I mean we never see him sleep through the whole movie. He won't eat, won't sleep, won't rest till he achieves whatever goal he is trying to achieve.

I was 12 years old at that time and my Dad had bought DVDs of both films...I watched There Will Be Blood in the morning with my Bro and NCFOM in the evening with my Dad..

Both are amazing...something about there will be blood ....to me is the greatest story/movie I've ever experienced..so far.....its not the most entertaining in the tradition sense or action packed but the depth of it all and the performances were thoroughly captivating to me..
That was a sad movie, especially for the wife. I am glad they did not show getting killed. I also didn’t understand the point of the hit man being hit by car and to still be able to walk away.
This movie's cat & mouse savage-ness was intense. The disturbing ending tho, kept me from sleeping for 2 nites. Great performances!

Felt like I had to learn to like this movie. Took a 3rd viewing until I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Xavier Molina Then you are considered to be “the exception” in this case, sir. I’ve recommended this film to multiple people over the years, and not one was displeased with my suggestion. Some even going on to insist others to watch. Furthermore, as you can see here in the comment section, there are very few, if any, that have trouble enjoying this movie. With you, of course, being the exception, as I stated above. This particular film is one that rewards those whom pay close attention just as much as it encourages a second or third viewing. You always seem to catch something you didn’t the time before. And the level of symbolism in this movie is comparable to that used in political cartoons in the news paper, but instead of just one artist’s sketch it’s more like an entire photoalbum going scene to scene.

HearThrob true but it was very subtle. You could barely hear it to the point where it didn’t overpower the scene like most movies do
I am reminded of a line in the TV series The Unit. One of the guys is explaining to some ally they are working with, that the enemy are not superhuman. He says "you shoot them and they fall down; just like anyone else." Chigurh is just a man.

I love this movie. I’ve always thought the dude he killed in the shower had the best shot @ surviving. Once he started 2 close the shower curtain, I would’ve made a move and grabbed the barrel. Whatever happens after that is in God’s hands

The ending is just both sides lose. Bell who supposedly become protagonist gave up on his job and choose to retired. And meanwhile Anton in the other hand walks away and simply didn't accomplish anything after he slaughtered numbers of people. Also Moss is died by third party influence. And Carson was just dead on his arrival.

In the book Bell is much more frequently used than in the film. He is really the lead character not Brolin. One of the problems with the film is just how incompetent Bell is, he cannot protect anyone or find the killer. I disagree that there is a lot to think about at the end. And the book explains what happened to the money.
The ending in the book is perfect. I loved the book and movie - the acting was fantastic.
One question though: why did Llewellyn go back to the crime scene in the desert in the beginning of the movie? That made no sense to me. He already got the money, why return in the middle of the night?

I think it's to say that his father came to the Grimm understanding that the coldness of the world takes a heavier toll on the old than it does the young. Maybe the young can fight through the cold and darkness, but the old can only lite a fire, and leave the fight to the young. Sooner or later, he knows his son will join by that "fire" and leave that fight to an even younger generation.

It's similar to the end of one of Hollywood's greatest movies---the Wizard of Oz. At the end of the movie Dorothy wakes up and realizes the entire movie was a dream. Same with Sheriff Bell's final scene.
In the theater I was expecting the standard ending...the lawman finally kills Bardem, showing that good triumphs over evil, etc. Just didn't like him getting away at the end.
Maybe cuz I read the book first, but I didn’t think the ending was confusing at all. It was kinda perfect given the story.

Great movie but a few too many inaccuracies in general. There is no way to silence a shotgun and thus no silencers are made for them nor could they be made for them. The bolt gun, again, they don't work that way, you cannot place it against a skull in that manner at such an angle. It would likely break the skin, fracture the persons skull but also send your hand and arm flying in the opposite direction (damn Newton). To use one properly you have to stand OVER the head and place your weight against it to prevent the equal / opposite reaction part. And of course my favorite, Chigur walking away after suffering a major compound fracture. Without immediate medical attention and surgery he would have been dead within an hour or two due to blood loss.
There are absolutely shotgun suppressors...Google the "Salvo 12"
@@FA_363 Did I say there were no suppressors? Nope, I said silencer which there are none. The difference between the two is massive. Suppressors are essentially useless, expensive toys which reduce muzzle velocity while bringing noise levels down from around 210 db to 160 db for a shotgun. It goes from a loud BANG to a loud POP so when you shoot a suppressed shotgun everyone and their mother will still hear the rapport for blocks. Even true silencers don't really silence a guns sound by much, especially as a true silencer can only be used on small caliber, subsonic rounds (.22, .32). Once the round goes beyond the speed of sound which almost all rounds do they cannot be silenced due to the sonic boom made by the round which cannot be controlled as it happens outside the weapon.

Basically he's getting old and realises he cant keep on fighting the good fight. He's dwelling on the threshold more, almost sees his dad, who died tryna keep the peace, in a world where war and crime is ever present, and always moving with the times. And the times they are a changing.

I always felt that the dream represented two things. The first, being a biblical allusion. Christ said in his father's house there are many rooms and he's going to prepare a place for us. John 14:2. Likewise, bell's father is preparing a place for him in the afterlife, other place, whatever you want to call it. Also, theres a shared theme from the road. The man tells his boy they "keep the fire." Which is a way of saying they hold on to their humanity and morals despite the world going to shit. Likewise, bell's family were lawmen and his father holds the fire in the horn, despite all that cold. All that dark. Theres that same father/son dynamic and ideas of justice and morals. Just my idea. Gotta love how subjective this stuff is!

He had two dreams:first, his father gave him some money but he lost it in town.(His father, a law man, gave him his trade-but that’s gone now). Second, his father has gone ahead to death and he knows he’s heading where his father is.
Everyone is saying the Mexicans got the money but i think it was anton... Firstly, we have the vent opened at the end which was only known by anton and moss and with moss dead anton must have taken it and at the end of the movie when anton buys the shirt he gives 100$ just like in the satchel.
That was an example of how to make a GOOD movie!

Chigurh represents the inevitablilty of death. The people that unfortnately cross the path of Chigurh usually all die. He uses the coin so they atleast have a random cahnce of not dying, as he stated otherwise it wouldn't be fair.
ED is a lawman triying to preserve life and order. He is the opposite of Chigurh. His dream at the end, was meant to be a passing of the torch. Ed would be able to survive in the dark and cold world with what his father taught and provided him. He woke up from the dream or delusion, realized he is just an old man and has nothing to pass on. Hence the title, he is living in a country with no need for his old school style and good ole fashion police style..... He needs to be a wolf like Alejandro in Sicario.

I was not convinced Chiguhr got the money. At the hotel in El Paso, as the sheriff approaches, several guys jump into a swerving truck which takes off. It's unclear to me if that drug gang or Anton killed Moss

In the end, y’know, The End we all will face, perhaps that’s what it all boils down to. Rich, old, woman, rebel, lover… Makes no difference. There’s that moment where you realize it’s The End… and then it is. Cut. Curtain closes. That’s it. You’re dead.

i feel as a retired 50 year old fat useless woman somewhere between the sherriff and the badass.... when you have nothing to lose, death doesn't seem so bad. when pain becomes a constant, death seems like a relief. i'm very depressed.
Chigurh didn't get the money. The Mexican cartel did. Chigurh failed at getting the money but upheld is promise to kill the wife due to his self-enforced principals. I think the car accident was some kind of poetic justice, as the wife didn't play into his game of chance by choosing heads or tails. I think this is correct but I have literally just finished watching the film for the first time.

I though the ending was a sequel for a second movie....I understood the sheriff felt overmatched trying to catch a intelligence crazy killer. Good movie but felt a little cheated..

I've seen a lot of movies in my 67 years...this movie was the "worst of the worst."
Wasn’t Javier inside the motel room when Bell entered. I believe he was killed then.
I had a different understanding of the sherif's dream. He says his father died an young man and that in his dream, his father was still an young man. Also in his dream he says his father was preparing to make fire to face the situation. I felt that this could be taken in two ways. One...... his father was always older than him(in his childhood) and hence is ready to face the cold and dark situation. two is "his father is young" which reflects the kinda theme of the film that he's old and incapable of handing the situation in real life and starts looking out for his father who once in his prime could handle the situation.
I'm not sure if it makes sense.....but this is what I understood from the ending
Anton Chigurh a man of princeple. he hates when a guy marries into money but he himself kills to get a quick cash prize. All characters portray themselves well but chigurh is just a broken charter.
Why I the only person that really hated how this movie ended? It just felt like random nonsense after a couple hours of thrilling plot progression…
i get why the ending was so anticlimactic and i like that it was for artistic purpose but like a final battle would’ve been so satisfying

What the movie might be trying to say, concurring with your point about the soul, is that while he led a life of doing what's right, it wouldn't be right for him, to devote his very death or very life to it either.
Chigurh would have given the money back to his employers, he was a professional.

Really great film. Is a guessing one until the very end. If you like mystery and thriller this is the right movie to go for any giving hot diggity damn day.
One of my all-time favorite movies. Even though after I seen this video, the ending still feels unresolved.
As much as i want to theorize that bell found the money and hence we see all the crockeries , but the final accident scene shows us that anton is running away and is paranoid just like moss was and hence he has the money now .
The Sheriff and the hitman are the same character played by different actors.

Yin and yang. Chigurh (the hitman) is almost entirely evil, but with the occasional hint of code and ethics, such as honoring the coin toss. The Sheriff is almost entirely good, but with a slight hint of evil in the form of lusting after that money so he can get out of the hard, blood-filled life of law enforcement.

She's definitely dead. He checks his shoes for blood as he leaves her house She didn't choose to play the game so it's basically an automatic loss in his eyes

His father would be waiting for him no matter what. Perhaps the ending is trying to say that no matter the evil that’s in the world, there are always good people out there who will help to fight it.

I always wondered why LoueElen didn't take the truck with the dope AND the money..dumping out the case to get a rough count thus finding the tracker..Although that would be lead the movie in a different direction
