  • A gray whale showed up inside Dana Point Harbor today and was lost inside for a couple hours, after it exited the harbor, it continued up the coast towards Alaska where I got this video in front of Montage Hotel near Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach, California. The rest of the migrating gray whales are feeding right now up North in Alaskan waters. For media inquiries, email mark@orangecountyoutdoors.com

      California Gray Whales are completely chill. They migrate south every winter to birth in the waters of Baja California, Mexico. Small boats paddle out into the bay, to whale watch. The mothers Grays are known for bringing their babies up to the boats to show them off. Mother and baby will pull up alongside the boats and wait to be petted.

    Gray whales often come close to shore to feed. I’ve seen them in Puget Sound within 10 feet of shore and at Depot Bay near Lincoln City Oregon they come right up to the sea wall where you can park and watch them feeding. Its really something to see them so close in such shallow water.

      Whales, like humans, have formal family structures to which they adhere with loyalty. They interact with one another, communicate, train, learn and even mourn as a close-knit family. Being such intelligent animals, whales are able to value their interpersonal relationships in a very special way.
      Individual whale families usually travel and migrate together in what is collectively known as a pod. Each member plays a role both in the family structure and in the greater pod. They organise themselves into group according to their genders (with most pods being matriarchal with a dominant bull) as well as the ages of the individuals.

    Wow i love that little cove, clear water that gets very deep very quickly , especially near the rocks. I live where we have hundreds of kilometres of beach and it is crystal clear water, but it tapers off very very slowly, so you normally have to go out a fair way to get really deep water. Being close to the beach is good you can experience the deep without going to far from shore, here we have great white sharks too, so going a long way from the beach is take your life in your own hands sort of stuff.

      Reminds me of beaches where I grew up in Denmark and Albany in South West, Western Australia - beautiful clear water coves that can get deep quickly - with Wales and white pointers - definitely a few people have been eaten. Apparently in Albany - back in the 70s, when whaling was legal, you could go down to the whaling jetty and see massive whites feeding on the whale carcasses. Would have been a sight for sure!

      Your most likely to die of lightning than a shark.... be scared of yourself. Humans kill way more

    • @robertobetometal
      @robertobetometal 6 лет назад +16

      You only need to search and you will find few similar videos with sharks swiming arround people. Also big sharks. To be honest, sharks are dangerous because they can hurt and even kill a human very easy (big ones). But not because of their behavior or their instincs. They kill very few people each year. In 2016 only 5-6 people (the last year I readed stadistics). And there are hundreds of interactions, and arround hundred incidents each year. So... Sharks are far away from the ruthless killers that people think they are.
      Almost all predators with enough weapons to kill a human, are more dangerous. I'm thinking about lions, tigers, bears, and specially crocs.... And many others cause more victims, like dogs or wasps for example. Deers, hippos, and other plants-eaters also!!
      Films and popular culture have done a lot of damage. Just say you to know; more than one hundred million sharks are killed EACH YEAR by humans. Yes, +100.000.000. Sharks kill 5-10 humans in average. Great White sharks usually 0 each year.
      Think about this. And sorry for my english.

    • @purplebird481
      @purplebird481 6 лет назад +6

      @Beto Fernandez, it is sad that sharks reputations has been damaged by these ridiculous Hollywood films to the point that many people probably don't care how many are killed each year. If I recall, sharks are apex predators (correct me if I am wrong) and therefore serve an important function in the sea. It also doesn't help that they are being killed for recipes (such as shark fin soup). More awareness needs to be done on this matter.

    • @winterybanana
      @winterybanana 6 лет назад +3

      @Purple Bird I think orcas are the apex predators in the water because they are highly intelligent and work in groups much like humans. They have been known to kill sharks by drowning them (if you turn a shark upside down it stops swimming and if it stops swimming it drowns) and then only eating the liver or something, throwing the rest away. They are even wasteful like humans...
