Whale visits beachgoers in Laguna Beach

- A gray whale showed up inside Dana Point Harbor today and was lost inside for a couple hours, after it exited the harbor, it continued up the coast towards Alaska where I got this video in front of Montage Hotel near Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach, California. The rest of the migrating gray whales are feeding right now up North in Alaskan waters. For media inquiries, email mark@orangecountyoutdoors.com
That's a very young gray whale.. its unbelievable how the whale swam so close to the shore and all those people had no idea it was even there.
They knew it was there💀💀 it literally came up out of water and the guy pointed at it. This probably has happened before, if this spot is known for getting sea animals so there used to it!!!
I just love how everybody, including the big sea creature are so calm and minding their own businesses.... I loved everything about this clip ❤️❤️❤️❤️
California Gray Whales are completely chill. They migrate south every winter to birth in the waters of Baja California, Mexico. Small boats paddle out into the bay, to whale watch. The mothers Grays are known for bringing their babies up to the boats to show them off. Mother and baby will pull up alongside the boats and wait to be petted.
They calm because they didn’t realize a big ass whale was around them. Whales are so gentle and peaceful. I love them 🐋❤️
@@KarePassion they still can kill you with single tail hit.
@@mountainman42 they can...but they don't Never happened.
@@KarePassion i saw a real video of humback swallowing 2 people kayaking. He vomitted them back but he could kill them by diving for like 500+ meters. I know he probably swallowed them by mistake but still ( the video was not fake it was nat geo wild or something like that )
Gray whales often come close to shore to feed. I’ve seen them in Puget Sound within 10 feet of shore and at Depot Bay near Lincoln City Oregon they come right up to the sea wall where you can park and watch them feeding. Its really something to see them so close in such shallow water.
You are lucky to witness something like that.
What time of year is best for viewing this type of thing? Or is it just random?
Ive never seen them in the Pugent Sound. Cool.
Awe my dad lives in Dallas ans took me to Lincoln city a couple years ago
I've seen them in Hawaii 🏵️🌿🏵️🌿🐋🐋🐋🐋🏵️🌿🏵️🌿🏵️☀️
I'm so glad nobody tried to interact with it and just let it do its thing. They are such majestic mammals.
I know, right? We all know what happens when humans try to interfere with wild animals, the outcome is typically not good
This is silly. There is nothing wrong with saying hello to animals.
@@ElijahFink it's actually illegal to swim TOWARDS the whales.. or so I was told. If they come to you and you "can't" swim away fast enough.. then whatever but yeah.
@@SAIVSS illegal? Where?
@ElijahFink they're federally protected so i assume everywhere? In us and canada. That's what the whale watching guide told us

Whales, like humans, have formal family structures to which they adhere with loyalty. They interact with one another, communicate, train, learn and even mourn as a close-knit family. Being such intelligent animals, whales are able to value their interpersonal relationships in a very special way.
Individual whale families usually travel and migrate together in what is collectively known as a pod. Each member plays a role both in the family structure and in the greater pod. They organise themselves into group according to their genders (with most pods being matriarchal with a dominant bull) as well as the ages of the individuals.
That is false, you may be thinking of toothed whales such as dolphins including killer whales
It's a uniwhale. He blew a rainbow out his hole. That's frickin sweet.

Such a majestic creature from the deep! That rainbow spray is everything said about them. Beautiful!
This is such an awesome video, not only (of course) the whale being so close, but the clarity of the water!.
The sound of the video and beautiful beach is soooo relaxing....
Wow i love that little cove, clear water that gets very deep very quickly , especially near the rocks. I live where we have hundreds of kilometres of beach and it is crystal clear water, but it tapers off very very slowly, so you normally have to go out a fair way to get really deep water. Being close to the beach is good you can experience the deep without going to far from shore, here we have great white sharks too, so going a long way from the beach is take your life in your own hands sort of stuff.
Reminds me of beaches where I grew up in Denmark and Albany in South West, Western Australia - beautiful clear water coves that can get deep quickly - with Wales and white pointers - definitely a few people have been eaten. Apparently in Albany - back in the 70s, when whaling was legal, you could go down to the whaling jetty and see massive whites feeding on the whale carcasses. Would have been a sight for sure!

@Isabella Nascimento quer um chocolate?
I think he was just flying around his drone and saw this whale and he managed to capture it
He opened his eyes. Jk. I dont know if the people in the water could see it lol
I went whale watching recently and you can see their water spray from half a mile. They come up to breathe often and the mist can shoot up to 30ft high. Our boat captain spotted one in the harbor from about 1000 yard and chased after it. The whale was similar in size and easy to spot
The curiest thing is how people in the water didnt manage not to spot it 🤣

I love these video 🥰 & look at the rainbow 🌈 color that came out of its spout when releasing that water into the air ✌🏾
My guess ... a baby or juvenile, that was separated from the herd. She looked thin and perhaps was disoriented. Stopping on the bottom is not common whale behavior; especially for greys.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Probably its mommy died too.
She's rubbing herself on the rocks. Totally normal behaviour. I see them all the time
👍🏽I was thinking similar
The snorkelers on the left didn't even see the sight of a lifetime right behind them.
complete idiots. How do you not see a whale right under you in that water??? Instead they watched the drone...
Eric Standefer The water is much more transparent from a birds eye perspective than from the surface. It would probably be really hard to see the whale from the beach or even from where the snorkelers Are, especially if the sun was shining on the water.
It was literally like 20 feet away and came up for air like 40 feet away....
If you look from the surface yes. But they were wearing mask so they definitely saw everything there. I'm a freediver and with that water I guarantee they saw it. They were just watching the drone above them hoping for a selfie with the whale maybe?
That's exactly correct, it's a completely different view from someone who is floating at the waters surface. If the snorkelers would have looked towards the whale underwater though they would have probably seen it
Man, that was a beautiful video. I loved hearing the sounds of the water, too!!!
Loved the whale blowing a rainbow out of his blow hole. So beautiful. I lived in San Diego for a long time and miss it so much. But you couldn’t pay me to move back there now unfortunately

It's amazing to me that none of the people in the water or in the nearby surf even appeared to see the whale, especially the four people floating almost directly above it!!

I know, right? Kind of crazy but when you're on the water, there is too much glare to see down through the water. Even when the whale surface, only a couple people on the beach reacted to it

Thanks.
Yes the audio was edited in because people don't like videos with no sound, hopefully in the future there can be some type of directional shotgun mic built in

This a drones pilot dream! I was just at this exact location yesterday flying but was too focused on the landscapes. Next time I'll look into ocean for a bit and hope to get lucky!
If a whale could make it that close, a shark could too. This scares me more than anything.
Your most likely to die of lightning than a shark.... be scared of yourself. Humans kill way more
You only need to search and you will find few similar videos with sharks swiming arround people. Also big sharks. To be honest, sharks are dangerous because they can hurt and even kill a human very easy (big ones). But not because of their behavior or their instincs. They kill very few people each year. In 2016 only 5-6 people (the last year I readed stadistics). And there are hundreds of interactions, and arround hundred incidents each year. So... Sharks are far away from the ruthless killers that people think they are.
Almost all predators with enough weapons to kill a human, are more dangerous. I'm thinking about lions, tigers, bears, and specially crocs.... And many others cause more victims, like dogs or wasps for example. Deers, hippos, and other plants-eaters also!!
Films and popular culture have done a lot of damage. Just say you to know; more than one hundred million sharks are killed EACH YEAR by humans. Yes, +100.000.000. Sharks kill 5-10 humans in average. Great White sharks usually 0 each year.
Think about this. And sorry for my english.
@Beto Fernandez, it is sad that sharks reputations has been damaged by these ridiculous Hollywood films to the point that many people probably don't care how many are killed each year. If I recall, sharks are apex predators (correct me if I am wrong) and therefore serve an important function in the sea. It also doesn't help that they are being killed for recipes (such as shark fin soup). More awareness needs to be done on this matter.
@Purple Bird I think orcas are the apex predators in the water because they are highly intelligent and work in groups much like humans. They have been known to kill sharks by drowning them (if you turn a shark upside down it stops swimming and if it stops swimming it drowns) and then only eating the liver or something, throwing the rest away. They are even wasteful like humans...
So you've been traumatized by Jaws
Such an amazing lifetime experience
If that was me in the water with my paranoid self I would be like *it's a megalodon run*
It kept rolling. Maybe it had barnacles to scrape off its back. Lovely whale! 💙🌸🐌

It reaches a length of 14 meters (49 ft), and a weight of 36 tonnes; the whale in the video is a juvenile
