PLEASE NOTE: I had to mute the music in the actual Hake's Facebook announcement video near the beginning because RUclips was going to give me a copyright strike. Sorry for the inconvenience, but just watch those 15 seconds in awkward silence with me. We can be awkward together.

I had 72 of the original Star Wars figures graded in their debut card. Clear bubble a f a 85 Unpunched.
I never thought I would ever sell them.
But in 2015 a five acre piece of property became available in my hometown, and I parted ways with the collection for 120k..nearly 3x my money.
I bought that property and a 1971 Barracuda.
Biult My dream home on the property and still have the car.
Many of those bubbles have probably since started to turn yellow.
I still look at the pictures of what the collection looked like.. But my kids get to grow up in a safe, clean environment.
Miss the collection, but it was so worth it.
I still may look to snag a sealed ESB ATAT From his collection when one comes up. It's my favorite item!

Great and insightful video!!! I wish Hake’s would put these out on display when they get them. I am about an hour from York, PA.
I agree with you. The fact that there is a lot of it and it’s all high end which limits buyers at high end prices , could create a ceiling which pushes the 80s and 85s down. I guess it will depend on how many high end buyers are out there willing to pay those top dollars.
Hope you had a great week fishing!!

As to why he's selling, maybe it's a realization that letting go of the attachment to material things is much better for your happiness. It's much better to not want, than to get what you want.

I'm thinking hopefully a few cool items slip under the radar a bit and don't go for an arm and a leg. Most of his stuff looks like 80s and above on the grades. As you've said before that brings out the big whales. Thanks for the video, can't wait till January! 😀

AFG, I think you nailed everything pretty well. Us Gen X'ers are not getting any younger and Disney's overall destruction of the franchise is not doing anyone in the hobby ANY favors. I don't care what the "accepters of all Star Wars" say. But All good things must come to an end no matter what and for me it has been a fun hobby for 3 decades. I'm sure it is bitter sweet for Jeff to part with his collection but he's keeping all his loose stuff, so he will have some things to enjoy still. I'll probably hold on to a couple of my favorite things when the time comes for me as well. If anything the sale of this collection has probably made a lot of folks think about the future and that's a positive IMO.

Thanks so much for sharing, Kevin. I definitely have thought on and off about selling the collection over the last 2 or 3 years, but at the end of the day, I don't only consider the monetary side of the equation and I enjoy the pursuit. If I end up netting less in value for the collection in 5 or 6 years, I am totally okay with that.

@@ActionFigureGrader Agree 100%. I was lucky to get started when 12-backs were $50-100 at flea markets. Those were the days! I couldn't imagine paying some of the prices today, just like I couldn't imagine buying my house in today's market. I think it is best to collect because you enjoy it and what you get is what you get when the time to sell comes about for each individual. I worry for anyone relying on the hobby for financial hopes. I'm glad you point that out in your content and that's why I am a follower. Keep up the great work. Jeff's collection will give you tons of content for a couple years! LOL

Great video John and I am Honestly not surprised that he selling the collection . He doesn’t need the money as far as most of us can figure. I have spoken to him in the past and purchased on some of his auctions in the past. I always got the impression that he did it for the pure joy and he had the means and the money to do it. Bottom line is as we get older we are down sizing and I think that’s the bottom line. He probably doesn’t need to monster home he owns but as you stated John I think it’s absolutely the case that Star Wars collecting is dying faster than I think people realize. This generation isn’t into this also the fact is Disney Star Wars has killed a lot of the hobby with the content there putting out. That’s the truth of it. Whether it’s going to be a game changer in the market I don’t see it. He’s selling ones of items it’s not like he has 6 Vader 12 backs ect. This will be a big physiological effect if anything. Many will start questioning the collecting market and whether it’s worth holding also the big elephant in the room is the economic environment and with many seeing very hard times ahead as we look to be at the beginning stages of dark times. When the housing or banking or stock start crashing you will then see market saturation and that could also be a factor that Jeff is putting into it.Especially for what he does for a living he probably has info that proves those hard times. Either way it will be interesting

Happy 4th of July John. I bought my fireworks this past weekend and I'm going to have a great time. Yes, I did mentioned this to you last weekend and I was just blasted out of my seat. I watched a RUclips video by Unusual Mike and I was just amazed at his collection. And none of them have been AFA or CAS Graded. I heard he's selling his collection next year. If I won the lottery, I would buy it in a heart beat. I wish he would have a tour of his collection in person. Of course, you would have to pay for admission. However, it's worth it. I have seen it on FB and I like to join his site. I was blasted on the Revenge proof cards. I agree that he waited until next year to sell and doing it one at a time and not do the whole mother load. If I have this type of collection in terms of storing, I would buy or build me a storage facility, barn, etc and convert it into my private hobby room. I will call it, "Scott's Star Wars Collectable Fortress". I came up with this name based on Akira Kurasawa's movie, "The Hidden Fortress".

Is Jeff Jacob the same guy from Jeff's Collectable Empire on eBay, right? You're so correct about the interest from our generation. Next generation likes it, but isn't going to collect for the passion of it. Probably be some because just like comics from the 1940s, people still love to buy and collect them. I wouldn't say that with 100% certainty. It has higher probably based of foreseeable market trends, but that is it. Everyone and I mean everyone says it's an absolute that Star Wars and toy collecting in general will be dead 20-30s years. They all give the basic yada yada yada reason why. However, events rarely ever play out in the mass consensus way the public a large perceives them too. Prime example is why the 70s/80s star wars toys are worth big money and the 90s/2000s are worth shit.

As we collect and have been in the game for decades and the amount we collect becomes to the point of “is it time to let go”?….We get older and then you start to think about using that money to fund your life instead of putting towards more “stuff”.. I always go to Hakes to find treasures and go after what means to me the most that fits my collection and always in it to win attitude. But as we see this Star Wars collector is doing I think we all will one day come to the cross roads. As the story goes can’t take it with you.

I'm old, Ha...been through this in many other collectibles, this will do Great things for the hobby! #1 it will expand the hobby, #2 it will drive prices on tons of stuff higer! (Quality items that is) Only a small part of collecting vintage is based on people watching or enjoying the new Star Wars, me included. I watch nothing new, I can't stand anything new.....and I still collect heavily!. Vintage collecting in Star Wars as far as values, is just at the start, you are all in for a surprise, 12 backs, Empire, Jedi, POTF, are as low as they will be. Things got out of hand some new collectors during covid jumped out, prices went to high to fast, yes it happens in all things, and the trash stays down but the quality rises again.
Just look at some of the comments, like people are going to save up, people are already excited, this is really GOOD for the hobby. I remember 20 years ago, 30 years ago, people in comics going OHHH no so and so is selling everything!! it's over! Well guess what it was opposite, it created more hype, brought in new blood and quality went up. 30 years ago experts even said comics were done! sell you silver age, golden age, kids don't collect comics, get out now! Guess again, didn't happen, I'm still honestly amazed new books sell at all, but old books? I knew they would continue to break records.
I'll leave you with this, buy hard to find, high grade items and only TOP tier characters, not hype on new characters, not baby yoda lol even in 9.8, not even the Mandalorian, Buy VINTAGE.. Luke, Vader, Leia, Empire, Jedi, POTF, buy Superman, Batman, Spiderman, rare golden age books! not Eternals, not Dazzler, not Modern books with 5,000 9.8's soon to be 1,000 9.9's, LOL. But most of all buy what you LOVE first, never follow the hype.
And Jeff, He sells, he sold his multi packs, you know what he did later? You all know, he went and got them again! It's boring once you own it, it's the HUNT that drives us, once we get it...ho hum. He will still collect, most likely he already has doubles of what he loves, I'm thinking he expanded into so many areas he wants to use that basement to show a more wide range collection and not 8 variations of a single figure or just Star Wars.. Oh and he knows this is good for the hobby, his name will add extra $$$ for sure, he knows that.
In the end it doesn't matter why anyone sells, turnover is good, if nobody sold the market would stagnate, out of sight out of mind. Yeah that basement is AWESOME...BUT it might be getting boring to him? I must admit, I like to sell and go after bigger game, higher grades, or something I don't have. We all are going to want a piece of this, so Hey, stay away from what I want. Ha Ha,...

I thought Steve Sanweet had the top collection. I’m fine with prices crashing, but I don’t see it. First, Star Wars is still relevant. Second, I don’t see baby boomer era baseball cards plummeting. Fans can appreciate vintage, even if they didn’t have it when they were kids. Even if you assume prices will crash, you then have to choose keeping items for yourself or cashing out to leave as part of an inheritance. I will say, I have sold most of my once large 1995+ collection, just saving a few high end items here and there.
