@@percronholm8536 Just heard of his passing. Gutted. What a sad loss of a fantastically talented and humble musician. What with Chris Squire and John Wetton already up there they will have some great jams !
Saw them do the “Free Hand” concert as a teenager in the late 1970’s and I sat there with my jaw on the floor. I’ve been a jazz drummer my whole life so very much into the prog of that age- Peter Gabriel Genesis- King Crimson, Weather Report, Passport, etc.- GG was SO original I never blinked! “Funny Ways” with the 5 man drum solo and their muted but beautiful light show- plus they were SO tight!! Still love them till this day. 🌴😎🥁🌴
There has seldom been a group of musicians that had dexterity and virtuoso implanted into their core DNA as these maestros , individual geniuses collectedly Gentle Giant , a colossus of the prog genre , without equal and indelibly stamped on my fading memories of old age.
Funnily enough this is one of my favorite songs ever but I've always thought if I could do it differently I'd remove that clavinet riff. I think it adds an unnecessary harmonic tension to a beautiful chord progression. (Yes I am aware GG does this a lot).
@peterg5383 agreed! i played OAYY live with a Giant cover band and when i got to the ending organ part I started crying as I was playing it. Green was in the audience!
Gentle Giant - His Last Voyage Rose in early morning, as the light came through, Searching in the ocean, did what he should do, Seeking not adventure, just a way of life, Sky above turned grey, wind cut like a knife. This was his last voyage, this was his last time. Pulling up the anchor, letting go the rope, Age rules over all things, fate rules over hope. Then as bow was broken, water soon to rise, For they would have nothing, Nature's trust unwise, Through his boat and fortune, not for him that day, If he went to God, for him they would pray, As the tempest thundered, as the storm broke free, Suddenly in darkness, fear there none to see, Visions in his memory, what was meant to be, When the storm was over, nothing could be seen, Life and boat were taken, God knows what it means. Rose in early morning, as the light came through, Searching in the ocean, did what he should do, This was his last voyage, this was his last time. Pulling up the anchor, letting go the rope, Age rules over all things, fate rules over hope.
Why have you never come to Chile?????....I cry for that and for all the contribution that I missed.. This song lifts us up and transports our soul throughout the universe. GG's music should be taught everywhere especially to young people, so they can feel the melody, the harmonies, read their lyrics, imagine the musical landscapes that this underrated group has given to humanity. Music is part of mathematics turned into sound. Today, at 64, I feel privileged and honored to belong to a generation that embraced and defends this music because it is part of universal culture.
@BuwsurFind the live radio bootleg where he sings the lead on Experience in the beginning (the album was called Amongst The Darkers I think). It kills me it is so great. He didn't sing it live because he wasn't loud enough for the primitive PAs of the seventies, so Derrick sang it. But the version I mention is the greatest thing I've ever heard Giant do. Kerry is my hero
At 63 years of age, I stopped doing magic mushrooms about 45 years ago. "His Last Voyage" is one of the greatest Gentle Giant songs there is.(Although that is certainly debatable), I guess the visuals are a bit much for me now...it's too "trippy", but I do applaud the efforts to keep their music alive. Gentle Giant should live on forever...just like the Beatles, and we who are now parents should expose our children to this world where imagination was fused with music and the results were often extremely interesting and satisfying.
Stopped hemp just 10 (15?) years ago. I am young (6 years younger than thou!), but have a 6 yo son. GG and other great goups/musicians must be in his musical education.
Omg! I saw that concert at the PARAMOUNT THEATER too!! To this day one of the BEST concerts I ever saw. I’ll never forgot how it started… they had a big blank screen onstage.. while waiting for them to come onstage all of a sudden an image of the bass drum appeared, then an amp.. a guitar on a stand, a keyboard, cymbal all maybe 10 seconds or so apart… eventually all the bands gear was on that screen… and then it came up and it was The BAND!!! Can’t remember what they opened with but they were INCREDIBLE… they played a couple songs off their new album that had not been released yet: THE MISSING PIECE.. I’ll never forget that show, I was in the center lower level up front. 😊❤
This is one of the most beatiful pieces of art I've ever heard. After that smooth guitar solo, those gorgeos vocals and the overall composition of the piece as a whole with all the instruments caotically playing in harmony, that ending with a simple echoey guitar hit the hardest after a masterpiece like this was over. I feel like I didn't enjoy this piece enough the first time I heard it. A lot has been changing in my life and as I was sitting against a tree looking at the horizon, all of this I was hearing seemed to make sense. Suddenly it had changed from just a song I've heard to the perfect soundtrack for this moment of peace and hope as my thoughts seetled down and I was immerced in the music and the story it tells. It fascinates me that someone was able to do this, music is just something out of this world to me as someone who struggled to play any instruments and only go really well with vocals and percussion. I don't know how they could come up with this melodies, the bassline communucating with the chords on the piano and the xylophone, it's unreal to me, it seems like contemplating something I have no knowledge to understand but I can still fully appreciate it. I would really like to know all the band member's history. They seem to have a strong influence in jazz and it makes me wonder if they participated in any groups before "Gentle Giant", I can recongnize a bit of jazz influence in the piano playing of a couple of songs but also the drum playing, I might be completely wrong because I have almost no knowledge in music but that's what my ears tell me. At least I can enjoy a piece like this and delve into this soundscape, enjoying every word and aspect, verbal and musical, it's all too great...
Simply wow… I feel so lucky and grateful to have had Gentle Giant as part of my life's soundtrack, but the SW remix - combined with the magic YT conversion algorithm - takes this to a whole other level. As does the astonishing video: you could watch it a squillion times and never see the same clip twice.
Even new albums don't sound this good! Great analogue recording with great mixing will always surpass any digital recording. The nature of the imperfections of analogue are what make it perfect to the ear.
Absolutely breathtaking beautiful song. One of my favorites by a band that all these years later is still on my frequent listening rotation. Not always a fan of SW remixes but he hit this one out of the park.
Awesome blending of deep fake technology with one of my favorites from this amazing band. Funny how many times when I'd listen to GG in my bedroom in the dark back then, I'd be watching something kind of similar going on.
The video images were just like Gentle Giant music, a complex interplay resulting in something amazing that we've never seen before and that is still amazing after many views. Great job!
This is incredible. I have heard of Gentle Giant before and tried to get into them back when I was listening to a lot of Caravan's music. This did the trick. I'll be back.
I love this usage of AI reconstruction. Really creates a beautiful and surreal visualization to go along with a beautiful and surreal song. I love how you can vaguely recognize some of the input images, but it's always made a little strange. Of course the Steven Wilson remix can't be overlooked here either. Just phenomenal video and audio all around, and a true crime this doesn't have more views.
So wonderful to listen to Steven's outstanding remixes. All the nuances of this great band can be heard and appreciated. Thank you Steven! Thank you Gentle Giant!

@Kevin O’Keefe at the risk of spouting superlatives...this band totally changed the way I thought of music. Forever.
Only underrated if you don't, "know."
This song is not all Kerry's music. Ray wrote some of this.
There has seldom been a group of musicians that had dexterity and virtuoso implanted into their core DNA as these maestros , individual geniuses collectedly Gentle Giant , a colossus of the prog genre , without equal and indelibly stamped on my fading memories of old age.
The last line "Age rules over all things, fate rules over hope" always gets me.
Of all Giant's music, this is #1 for me. That little clavinet riff could easily represent my entire philosophy for living life. Seriously
Yes indeed! That little riff never fails to go right through me!
Some bands in a full career never write anything as magical as that little riff ! The whole song is off the scale for mere mortals.
Funnily enough this is one of my favorite songs ever but I've always thought if I could do it differently I'd remove that clavinet riff. I think it adds an unnecessary harmonic tension to a beautiful chord progression. (Yes I am aware GG does this a lot).

This guitar solo, is one of the best GG guitar solo's ever...
Yes, Green's finest solo moment for sure
My favorite Gentle Giant guitar solo, after the one on Peel the Paint
Ray's embarked in his last voyage.
Farewell thee, my friend.
Thank you for the melodies.

Kerry was always my favorite singer in the band. His singing on The Power and The Glory album was great as well!
