This whole thing feels like a piece of performative art meant to highlight the state of the games industry and its marketing hype. Complete with buggy launch.
Looking at their history, this legit sounds like a long con that has worked for them for forever where they raise money for a game, bull shit investors and platforms with these little half-assed updates just long enough to fake getting the game near alpha or demo, and then they move on to the next after some "unforeseen circumstances" brings the previous game or app to a crashing halt. This one was no different but they fucked up and used Hideo Kojima as marketing and the marketing campaign went viral on accident. Now he is flying by the seat of his pants trying to slap together something that looks like a game really exists.
Spawn Wave looked into it, BlueBox has a history of hyping up different horror games-even going so far to make a Kickstarter at some point back when the studio was founded-and just canceling their games. It's odd.
Could it be a money laundering scheme of some kind? Like I don't know how it would work but could Blue Box be just like a front company that has money funnelled into it and makes these things to 'appear' to be doing something? I mean it's kind of outlandish I know but the fact they keep acting like this screams "front company".
Seems like when studios underdeliver, they know they're underdelivering when they go really far with the "mystery" stuff. The hype wears off when month after month it's some vague "reveal" or a "maybe we'll do xyz, maybe not wink wink". Eventually it becomes "Just tell us something about the game or stop wasting our time". Some that do that say they don't reveal because they don't want the pressure or don't want to spoil the hype, but it really just sounds like they either know it's woefully deficient or just plain don't have anything at all.
i feel like they are very vaguely trying to tease silent Hill because the man is dressed kinda like the main character of that game but it’s so generic and underwhelming that everyone has finally realized this is just an indy studio that doesn’t know what it’s doing.
Take a look into Chronicles of Elyria game And the huge amount of legal controversy surrounding it. You can definitely do an entire video on that as well
The red flags surrounding BBGS should be blatantly obvious to anyone who does their due diligence. So where is the money they need to operate coming from?
I have been wondering the same since Yong showed that timeline. Should all the names of the project be a hint? Because if it is real.... how is this company still running??
It's highly likely a kickstarter style scam, generate big hype, get investment from that hype, then say the project collapsed due to "technical difficulties"(ie take the money and run). And then repeat. If it is a scam then they made the same mistake every scammer makes, getting too much attention. Probably shouldn't have baited the MG fanbase.
Honestly just lost interest after the the blurred big boss tweet. Even if they do release a game, I won't buy it. Just feels like they've been milking the attention since day one

I mean its pretty clear what's going on. An indie studio was going to release a game in an interesting way, people started making EXTREMELY far fetched theories of it being related to Kojima, Blue Box denied it at first. People continued to make rumors, even after denying any relation multiple times. At one point they just said, "fuck it its getting more press than anything, we'll roll with it". Anybody who think otherwise is absolutely delusional. Also btw, "Hideo" in japanese means nothing. It does not mean "Hero". Therefore, the translation angle is completely wrong at the start.
The name of the game is Stand Still. It's a standing simulator where you file mail into the correct slot. I can see why people confused it with Hideo Kojima genius
I have no sympathy for this kind of trolling or whatever it is. Just announce the shit when it's close to release and show gameplay, not cinematic crap only. Be it indie, AAA or whatever I'm so tired of shitty game marketing.
I wouldn’t even call this cinematic lol. The “clip” they showed was about as cinematic as me waking up and walking to the bathroom for a morning dump lol
Smart move. Reality will never meet the things we can imagine so hype usually just leaves you disappointed. Tbh for a while I have been thinking how cool would it be if a game just popped up with no marketing or anything, it'd be like a big discovery and everyone could experience it all for the first time together. Doubt it'd ever happen though.
It's not ironic as a unforseen mistake, it's actually a planned postmodern art piece, that uses real world as it's canvas and makes it's audience feel abandoned.
@@jakekneega7400 thats not irony. irony1 /ˈʌɪrəni/ noun the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect. "‘Don't go overboard with the gratitude,’ he rejoined with heavy irony"
If they didn't allude to Kojima/Konami in their tweets (even the denials), barely anyone would be waiting on the edge of their seat right now. Hideo Kojima also has not addressed it or denied it either, which makes it very suspicious. And on top of that, the fact that Sony would allow this indy developer, especially with it's track record of unreleased games, to lead people on like this while blatantly hinting Silent Hill and Metal Gear, is baffling. One good thing to take out of this is that if Sony, Konami, and possibly Kojima are not secretly making a new Silent Hill and Metal Gear, they definitely know now how fans feel about it and should make it happen sooner rather than later ala Capcom with RE2.
If Kojima, Konami or Sony tried to deny this is anything other a fraudulent indie studio trolling conspiracy theorists, it will just make those people believe even harder with this crap. Because of Kojima's past actions, there will never be a way to convince these folks that they have gotten this all wrong.
I'm fully expecting a "Hunt down the Freeman" level of quality. It really feels like a repeat of "We're the disciples of Kojima" It's hard to believe that the devs won't just copy and paste different scenarios from previous Kojima games
the name Hideo CAN mean "hero" in japanese, but you have to spell it a certain way. Kojima's first name, while the sound is identical, uses different characters to spell it and does not mean "hero" in japanese

My speculation: At some point they will announce that the project is cancelled for some reason. Will certainly fuel the rumours for years to come… (Edit: Oh yea got to that part of this vid of YY mentioning this)
I think they're one of the most incompetent studios ever made. They delayed an App for a teaser that is 5 seconds long. Apparently it took them 72 hours to fix a graphical glitch with the teaser that is 5 seconds long. At this rate it's safe to say if they even have a game to show, this project will take 40 years to finish. I don't believe Kojima would drag this and make his fans frustrated. I'm 100% certain they will cancel this project and close their twitter account after a few days or weeks and pretend this never happened.
"I don't believe Kojima would drag this and make his fans frustrated." Uhh are we talking about the same Kojima here? The man the made the game Death Stranding wouldn't want to frustrate his fans?
@@metetural9140 Death Stranding is a good game, I agree at the end there was a frustrating backtracking, but overall the game was enjoyable and fairly easy.
@@dream6562 Usually indie studios are open about their products. These guys took the riskiest move and created an App to run the trailer in real time. Apparently history is repeating itself.
I wonder when Blue Box will announce the Trailer App Season Pass which gets you early access to the nonexistent trailers and the opportunity to preorder premium content from the nonexistent game?
I'm fairly convinced at this point that Abandoned isn't a game but a social experiment to see if researchers could get people hyped for something that never existed. No technical experience with games, months of work yields a 5-second video of walking, incapable of launching the video properly, this can't be a serious game launch.
Well the name of the game "Abandoned" is living up to it if nothing else. Maybe the clip was a teaser for their next teaser of a next game - "The Walking on planks"
I will forever respect whoever is in charge of this project if this is indeed a troll. Like seriously, this kind of thing can be classified as true art if it is a troll.
@@JAGtheTrekkieGEMINI1701 I still have some hope for it being Silent Hill. I wouldn't be very mad if it wasn't. But if it is and it's all a troll then I will be first to applaud them.
Sony has already made wrong decisions in the past. No mans sky received full support from Sony, and in the end they jumped ship on the game's release because everyone realized it was garbage.
Nothing this studio is doing is making sense, and Sony supporting this doesn't make sense. What's going on?!. Why is the creator's name spelling out as hideo kojima?. Why is everything they're doing hinting at both silent hill and metal gear?. And why isn't Sony stepping in to put things right?. Nothing is making sense here. Their history hints at them being a failed studio, so it makes no sense that Sony is supporting them. There could still be a possibility that this developer is not even a developer, but instead a fake studio set by someone. Hideo kojima is the kind of person that could think "hey, let me set up a fake studio that has no purpose, for when i have the right game to troll everyone". Then again, kojima is working with Microsoft probably.
Blue Box actually exists, they're registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. Also registered under Hasan Kahraman, so he's real too unless they're breaking the law. You can find about 8 years worth of their development history on various projects as well.
You can't imagine how long and hearty I laughed after seeing this "trailer". It was a teaser, like something teasing for a release in 2023. This is one of the biggest trolls since No Man Sky.
If the studio is trolling everyone, I think more studios should outright start trolling gamers like this and just give Massive middlefingers to everyone until the game is 100% ready to launch
Interesting theory of the 5 second footage for silent hill fans. The person walking is wearing the same outfit as James in silent hill 2. And Kojima loves the troll tf out of his fans... I could be wrong about everything though
My best bet is that they've pulled ad stunt that got a lot of eyes on their project and they have nothing of quality to back it up. All they've shown so far is a trailer using assets from the Unreal market place and a guy walking. Their track record as a studio isn't flattering either...plenty of announced project that disappear without a trace.
Either they're trolling or this indie studio has no freakin clue what they're doing.

I wish media, youtubers, and journalists completely ignored this crap until developers actually want to talk about their project

Maybe they wanted to be called "Blue Ball: instead
Seems like when studios underdeliver, they know they're underdelivering when they go really far with the "mystery" stuff. The hype wears off when month after month it's some vague "reveal" or a "maybe we'll do xyz, maybe not wink wink". Eventually it becomes "Just tell us something about the game or stop wasting our time". Some that do that say they don't reveal because they don't want the pressure or don't want to spoil the hype, but it really just sounds like they either know it's woefully deficient or just plain don't have anything at all.
