I would try to find a 471 Detroit it should be around 150hp , a steel frame is the way to go on the carriage. that's a nice old mill it should saw great when you get it rebuilt.
I just got a 471 that needs a head and a blower from a friend. Guess if I found the parts needed that would work. Also have a nissan 3.5L diesel, but might be a bit small, or I saw a mill recently that had a mac truck with the rear clip cut off, and the driveshaft going to the husk. Not a bad way to do it, used the transmission to set rpm, and the wet system on the truck to run hydraulics
I have a few options, thinking of cutting off a truck just like my dump truck. I found a rusty one cheap and I have looked at another mill set up to run off of a truck driveshaft. The transmission can be used to help get the rpm right, and the power steering pump and air compressor might be useful
Thanks for the tip! I have lots of photos, and the videos are partially for youtube, and partially so that I have a reference. The old frame will also stick around until it is back up and running. Never throw the old parts until stuff is fixed.
That's a really nice project. Bringing a museum piece back to life. I love it.
hoping to build my house with it
hi there coming along john

Our power was a red seal continental that was a surplus hospital generator from WW2, it was a hundred horse, but had great lugging power.

Yup, just got one that needs a rebuild from a friend, still open to options if something better comes along
Get a real hammer. Keep using a metal hammer and good chance you'll crach some metal.
Take measurements and photos off every thing before you remove any thing! You will be glad later.
