    Great to see this layout. I built this one 46 years ago and I move from NY to CA and back during that time. It is currently with one of my nephews and his dad (still in NY) and a real hit with the kids at train shows. I always loved the design and the various scenery details it allow for in addition to the super yard in the front. ENJOY!!!!!

    Order some micro trains wheel sets then take a couple of cars and put the new wheel set on one end of the car and leave the other side old style then this way you have an easy way to use new and old. Also mirco trains has conversation kits for the old locos as well. Mirco trains couplers have been a personal favorite of mine as they work well and look better. NIce Layout BTW adding those details and trees/ bushes will really make things look good. Also now with 3d printers getting better, you can add lots of little details.

      Thank you. I did get the micro trains couplers and did what you stated. They work great. Since this video I've been working on the scenery and have the first batch of trees to put in. I have lights in my four buildings now. Also have a few more KATO engines now and I have bought more rolling stock to. I guess maybe it's time to post an update video.

    A very nice layout. I have plans to expand my own layout and turn it into a mountain railroad town, though as it will be HO scale, I think I'll have room for only one main line track and 90-degree crossing.

    Always liked that layout since I saw it in my 1971 copy of "Nine N Scale Model Railroads" by John Armstrong and Thad Stepek. DCC would be a good fit. No more block switches.

  • @Yyyyyy5
    @Yyyyyy5 2 года назад +1

    What I did with the coupler situation like yours is I took one freight car and left the old “U” shape coupler as you call it on one end and put a brand new coupler like they use now days on the other end so no matter what I can purchase any freight cars I want even if they have the old couplers I still buy the freight cars and run them right away. I do this because the old couplers don’t bother me one bit and I have a family to take care of so I’m not going to sit around all day switching couplers.

    • @Glenn1962
      @Glenn1962  2 года назад +1

      On one of my trains I did that. Regular coupler on one end and the u-shape on the other

    Glenn I started building the same track plan in the early 80s and only got to the point that the track was down and i was able to run trains. It was DC at this time with the same atlas controls that you are showing on yours. It was then put in storage in the basement of my business until 2011 when we sold the business. I then started to work on it again and found that out cats had got behind it and loved to play with all the wires. So at that time I switched to DCC I can now run 3 or more trains at a time. I do not have a youtube site but have posted on my facebook page Jim Carr

      I thought about going DCC with this. I have blocks in where I can run 4 trains now but I think DCC would be the way to go. If I expand this layout or start a new one it will be DCC for sure.

    cool layout... is that new Norfolk Southern a Kato sd70ace? if so I have had the same problem with one where the front trucks wouldn't turn freely and were getting hung up on something internally causing it to derail on curves that other sd70ace locos had no problem with.

    • @Glenn1962
      @Glenn1962  3 года назад +1

      Thank you. Yep, this is the Kato Norfolk Southern sd70ace. I also ended up getting a Kato Union Pacific ES44AC GEVO and a Santa Fe EMD SDP40F. The Norfolk Southern was the only one that really gave me issues on the tighter turns but for the most part it can runs them better now.

      @@Glenn1962 ya I have some of those others you mentioned too and never had this issue... only had it on the sd70ace. Kato is making some sd70m locos right now and I'll be buying one next month when the southern pacific one comes out. hoping for no issues with that one.

      @@tony791999 I also bought a Bachmann EMD GP40 Diesel Locomotive because it wasn't as long as the Katos are. The Bachmann does not run nearly as good as Katos do. I'm sticking with Kato and I read Atlas makes good locos too so I might try an Atlas engine
