Thank you for bringing us Mendelssohn's work! I rarely listen to his organ work so it is very refreshing to appreciate his contrapuntal music intertwined with his spirit of romantic period.
Few things 1). My favourite recording of this sonata 2). The finale is so perfect and peaceful to such a rather miserable (to later frightening/chaotic) first movement and second movement (expression wise not structure) 3). The finale is what I want played at my funeral.
Wonderful! You play the sonata so beautiful - so musicaly and with so much expression - you really feel the music! And the registration absolutly fits the piece - Thank you for your inspiring Video!
Lieber Herr van der Giessen, my wife and I found your performance of this work of Mendelssohn WONDERFULLY revealing of the underlying choral and religious foundation. That was especially clear in the choral tempo and the rests that were perfect for breathing. We couldn't listen to it without hearing the unsung text also. And it surely appeared that you were hearing the text as well as you performed it. Your quieter handling of the second movement was new to us and it became immediately clear why you chose that registration and why it now appears to us more authentically Mendelssohn than the usual hard fugue attack. All three movements belong clearly to the category of Geistliche Musik ... but the last movement is so serene after the stormy first movement - we consider it an especially personal religious statement of Mendelssohns. THANK YOU for this amazingly perceptive recreation of this major work of Mendelssohns.
Beautiful. Clearly Iddo van der Giessen is steeped in the Dutch tradition of choral music for in this interpretation and performance he has clearly and sensitively brought out the underlying choral. Loved the registrations on this organ. Reminds me of the way it was played by the late Michel Chapuis on the Great Riepp Organ in Dole. (His versions of both the 4th and 6th Sonatas can be found on the YT channel of his pupil Frederic Munoz)
One of my favourite organ works by Mendelssohn. One of my favourite organ works in general. And definitely the best interpretation of it on RUclips so far. Thank you very much!
One of my favorites by Mendelssohn... You play so well, and you are so incredibly handsome... All around pleasure. The one person who disliked this video is just a jealous moron! Thank you for sharing... :-)
Once again another great performance. Brilliant technique and meaningful registration. I am gradually listening to all your recordings.....what a treat. Thankyou and your registrant.
Superb. This is a gem. Beautifully executed. And the registrant did an excellent job. 🥂
Beautifully performed, perfect! Thank you. The registrant did a wonderful job.
This is a beautiful setting of the Lord’s Prayer (Vater unser).
Bij dit stuk komt het aan op de rusten, articulatie en agogiek. Goed onder controle !! mooi!
Prachtig gespeeld!
Your video is already 4 years old, but I heard it for the first time now. And your music gave me goosebumps!
Thank you and all my best for the future.
Fraseggio e tempo perfetti. Ottima registrazione. Bravo!!

That Dulciaan + tremulant in D minor at @5:46 is just glorious. What a sound!

Karl Hänsel thank you!
Wat een waanzinnig mooie tremulanten zitten er toch op dit orgel . En wat een schitterend plenum toch.

Wat een juweel, bedankt!
European pipe-organs are so different from those found in N. America, magnificent as they are.
👏👍

Hallo Iddo hast du ein cd von dieses lied?
Hallo Fernando, ich habe nur diese live Aufnahme, aber Jos van der Kooy hatte alle Mendelssohn Sonatas aufgenommen in der Bavo Kirche in Haarlem!
