This episode was really good.... many good "take-aways" but I can't remember them all now. (e.g. more enamored/motivated by researching the best methods, etc. than by actually *doing* ... oh, and *expecting* God to answer prayers for wisdom and help in understanding)... anyway... Would you please consider doing 3 or 4 episodes... demonstrating, -- with full-blown, hands-on, in-the-trenches examples -- *how* to study the Bible in the way you are talking about? (i.e. a whole episode devoted to one verse/passage/chapter, etc.) e.g. ... 1 episode on a "beginner" Bible study, then an episode on an "intermediate" Bible study, then an episode on what Pastor John (or Teddy) might do for your own personal Bible study on a more "advanced" Bible study.... including in each and/or maybe an episode on how you dig into a "simple" and/or very familiar verse/passage/chapter, etc. and dig and dig and dig, mining out realities and how to more and more apply them into your lives so that we actually live on them more and more.... I know you've covered very well the principles laid out in Proverbs 2..... but the actual nuts-and-bolts of *how* to do the actual *work* of the kind of Bible study you are talking about? Thanks!
We have a running list of series ideas so we have put that in the hopper. We certainly want to create that. In the meantime, remember what has been said in this episode and others: Don't get too caught up in methods and focus instead on the means. Read, pray, study. God will use the tools He has given you. Invest in trustworthy commentaries (if you need help here, we can safely recommend any commentary you find from The Banner of Truth, Reformation Heritage Books, and Cumberland Valley Bible Bookstore). Remember the helpful order John has given: Academic, middle-of-the-road, and devotional or sermons. Your pastor should be able to point you to particular commentary series or authors in each category. If that isn't possible for you, reach out and let us know and we will send you some we trust. But we don't want to usurp the role of your local pastor. But in all things pray. God cares more about your spiritual growth and sanctification that you do. He will guide you and help you understand.
