  • You've probably seen this in movies and TV shows. Now I am going to break it down to you. After many requests here is the Filipino Martial Arts video you all requested. I am showing you a drill called Sinwali and a few basic footwork moves. This is my culture and what I have done my entire life. There are many systems within Eskrima/Arnis, so some striking numbers may vary, but it's all within the same family. Be safe in training. If you are looking to get more in-depth guidance, I have just launched my online training membership called NV Martial Arts Academy. All the details can be found on my website:

    I’ve been trying to get my 10 yr old daughter into martial arts.. shes a gentle child but because shes so gentle I want her to learn to protect herself even more. We are going to learn kali together because why not start with a martial art from our own culture before we move to other ones? Anyway, seeing a beautiful FEMALE teaching with easy to understand content is a very big help to inspire her. You explain things the best so far. Also the heavy bag really helps too! Thank you so much for this video!!

      They both provide an excellent base to move onto other martial arts.
      I might also try Muay Thai first.
      After those somewhere in the teens like 16/17 switch to kali

      I would rather have my daughter take private lessons with a firearm instructor where she will learn about gun safety, how to handle, and shoot a hand gun properly and with confidence. I'm also going to buy her a pepper ball launcher for the non-lethal option that will stop any bad guys intentions. Just Google If you don't have any idea what a pepper ball launcher is. Here's the link..(byrna.com/)
      As a father we want our kids specially our daughter's to feel confident and safe. This two deference I mentioned will give them the means to deal with any situations without having to get physical and possibly get hurt, injured, or worse. Just saying!!! But, hey I perfectly fine with whatever you decide is best for your kids. 💯💯👍👍😁😁

      @@alpha2957 what you're saying makes perfect sense, but if an attack comes from close range or unexpectedly, it would be necessary to know some self defense. There's usually not enough time to deploy the weapon in those sorts of situations. I hope your girl never gets attacked.

      @@lumiliyabnaapoy4283 ahh, you sure? Hmm, let me educate you.
      Brazil & Philippine's history are alike in some ways. They have been conquered & colonized by foriegn lands & prohibited locals to engage in any form of combat training to avoid uprising & rebellion. Same way what Japan did to okinawans & others. So practice of the fighting art had to be discreet. They did many ways to achieve this. The Filipinoes had enough of their oppression. So one of the ways they devised a plan to outwit them. Everytime there was an event, festivals or any social gathering they always include stick dancing in the show. Little did the conquisidors know the Filipinoes are harnessing or practice their skills in these events. Like capoeira it is a combat in disguise in plain sight. Dude, this info is so old, perhaps some little research wud do.

      EXACTLY. Plus the rhythm, and the triangular foot work... very strong co similarity to Capoeira.
      It's been many years since I studied Capoeira so I forget the name, but within Capoeira there is stick fighting with very similar sized sticks to these that you use to keep rhythm, hitting them against eachother, the ground, and of course your opponent, disguising the weapon as a musical instrument

    • @horsdecombat007
      @horsdecombat007 3 года назад +6

      She is a stunning woman, but in the Philippines (and much of Asia), she would not be considered truly beautiful due to her darker skin tone. This comes from the thought that darker skinned people got that way from working outside in the sun, where the lighter skin were rich and could stay inside. This started in China and moved to Japan and then the rest of Asia. Yes, colorism has existed for a thousand years in Asia.

    • @timsaysg
      @timsaysg 3 года назад +2

      @@horsdecombat007 PH has sent several representatives w/ dark skin tone over the years and most have placed decently. It is true that most Filipinos have been influenced by other Asian countries but most still consider our dark skin tones as an asset and are very much proud of it. Besides this is Ms. Universe we are talking about, why would her color be an issue?

    • @horsdecombat007
      @horsdecombat007 3 года назад +4

      @@timsaysg I have to disagree. I believe that many Filipinos are enamored of lighter skin women and it shows in the number of "mestizo" women who are popular actresses. The amount of women who actively attempt to change their skin color via chemical cosmetics and an obsession with covering their selves with umbrellas or such while outside. Don't get me wrong, I love darker skinned women, I married one.

Had the pleasure of meeting and training (very shortly, unfortunately) with Professor Remy Presas (RIP) many, many years ago and immediately started incorporating what little I learned from him in my classes. It always seemed like students picked up the correlation between stick and open hand motions pretty quickly and that was fun to see. Like the light bulb going on!

    Do you know of a place in SAN BERNARDINO, RIVERSIDE, ORANGE COUNTY or LOS ANGELES that teaches these classes. I went to a guy in Riverside about 8 years ago but he moved out of town.

    Really do w/o the 70s porn music. Good video, but that music sucked. The music took away from what you were trying to explain/teach.
    I was to use a clock (analog) when sticking. I was also, taught by another to A, B, C, D, E, & F.

    Also, you can dial down your background music maybe..... like 15-20%. It's a nice background, but sometimes, the beats cover up your speech. Same with the high hats.
    Given that it's an educational video, it serves well for your voice to be the foremost sound in the video.
    Also, big fan of that blade. Such a thin, wide blade would be devastating against flesh or even thick fabric.

    Guro Nelita here has about all the trademarks of an FMA teacher: rattan sticks, a repurposed room, deep knowledge explained in the most efficient way possible, and jokes. 10/10

    She said she was half Filipino and half American. But a more accurate description she could have gave she's half Filipino and half African-American. As Filipino is a race which she voluntarily mention but, to say American only she should be am reminded that American is not a race but it country of origin. Is she ashamed to admit she's part African-American? She should cancel the music because it's distracting and repetitively annoying kiwi

    Rattan is actually a type of vine, not a wood, and it is fairly tough, is not one of the strongest. Regardless of the diameter, all rattan is really lightweight. For this reason, it is used to make the training sticks in FMA, as it is less likely to cause serious injury if you're accidentally struck. In actual combat, for warriors who preferred fighting with sticks, hardwood sticks would be used, either standard round sticks(olisi, baton) or flat sticks(garote, batuta).

    That is not tinikling. That is Singkil, a traditional dance that tells/ shows a cultural epic of the Moro people. Moros practiced their blade art freely unlike their northern counterparts.
    You should watch moros perform another traditional war dance. The Sagayan.
    Tinikling dance has no swords
