      Yes, he's very good. He's wrong about it being the strongest in the gulf in Katrina, though. Rita (same season) was stronger than Katrina by windspeed peak and had lower pressure, and Michael was stronger than Laura, and was actually stronger at landfall than Katrina and Rita were at landfall by quite a bit (it was the first Cat 5 to his the US since Andrew).

      Some people do; Most don't. It becomes part and parcel of living on the gulf coast after a while. Those that hunker down are fine; Those who venture out during the storm are often not.
      "Just start the generator for the fridge, well pump, and Tv. We'll be aight."
      (12 days later)
      "Damn I miss watching tv.. When the heck are they gonna turn the power on. 'Guess I'll go cut up all those fallen trees with the last of my gas."
      (Day 16)
      "I've been covered in mud and sleeping in sweat for more than two weeks now... I miss ice. I'll have to wait in line for 5 hours for a 5 gallon limit of gas, but I guess some Ice cubes and a movie would... (power cuts on) Never mind."
      True story from multiple decades. When sweat is constantly dripping (even during sleep), you can't always tell when roaches and ants have come in and are crawling on you. Other than the discomfort, it is merely an inconvenience if you're smart and properly prepared.

    • @scottriggle8039
      @scottriggle8039 4 года назад

      At the rate it is strengthening it will be catagory 5. There is a chance that windshear or an eyewall replacement cycle will halt the storms strengthening before it reaches cat 5 but a cat 5 is quite possible. Usually when an eyewall replacement cycle is about to occur you see 2 rings of heavy rain on radar and so far I only see 1 ring of heavy rain so maybe there won't be an eyewall replacement cycle.

      Thanks for the explanation I'm a weather nerd and I learned something new. Good thing the worst of it hit mostly uninhabited marshland. Lake charles will have some bad damage but the storm was probably a catagory weaker by the time it reached Lake Charles so hopefully the damage is not catastrophic.

      I had lived and was living in NOLA for 21 years at that time. My grandfather called from CT and said “this is a 300 mile wide tornado, picture yourself, your daughter, your cat and dog on the roof. For days. Get your things and get in the car.”
      14 hours later we arrived in Lafayette. We were lucky enough to have a car that functioned and friends to stay with. We woke up, all started getting back in touch, then another news story hit the presses. Many don’t realize this timeline. It was horrendous for years. Eyeball replacement is ready and set.
