Look I agree but it took me almost five years because he’s so sweet and I really didn’t want to make him feel inadequate. There are also the men that get way more aggressive when you tell them something like this they think it’s like your doubting their manhood. Even if they know your not happy with it
Ehhhh. I get it unfortunately but she doesn't seem like the type to spare feelings. If you start off by faking it then you just look like a liar I guess
@marteumar8429communicating ways they can help each other in the bedroom so Nicole Kidmans character doesn’t cheat, but that also would be a very short movie so yeah. I kinda hate when movies rely on “I’m a grown adult who can’t communicate” as a plot or storyline /: but if something good or interesting comes from that I feel like it can be justified. Sorry for the rant
The whole time watching perfect couple I was like What Is This Wig?? WHY is this wig???? When Amelia said that her own mom was really self conscious about her wig (which was also clearly a terrible wig, but at least there the idea was that both the audience and the other characters know that it's a wig and there's an in-universe reason for her to be wearing a wig she's not really comfortable with) I expected Nicole Kidman's wig to become plot-relevant later on. But no.
Kennie please watch LOVE & LEASHES. Its a korean office romance movie where the guy is the sub. The lady has to learn how to dom him. Its campy and but actually very wholesome in how it portrays the S&M community ??? And its not p*rn. I think you would really enjoy it 😂
Love and Leashes (Netflix Movie from South Korea) is the most mainstream film I’ve seen with this particular dynamic. I watched it recently after I read some of the webtoon; it was a cute/fun watch ^-^
I like that they made the husband a decent man. Usually in these affair movies (specifically when the woman cheats), they try to make the husband as bad as possible, so It's nice that they subverted that trope. I wish they would've, made the intern guy important in some way. Like he's an intern but his dad was the chairman or something. Being a man is not enough. P.S. Mr. Antonio has aged like fine wine. Sadly I'm much too young for him Spy Kid's 3 came out before I was born. P.P.S. can you do Nosferatu next?
omg same, a lot of people actually didn't like that but that was what intrigued me. Most movies, books tv shows, would have the husband being abusive and also cartoonishly evil, to justify the cheating, so i'm glad they did something else.
Not Spy Kids 3 🫠😅 you've made me feel so old. My introduction to Antonio Banderas was a movie called Desperado from the mid 90s. I was probably 7 when I watched it and had the biggest crush on him 😅 highly recommended 90s Antonio Banderas too
@soclose2hermanic pixie dream girl is the original trope, i wouldn’t do a very good job pf explaining it. But imagine any quirky, colourful haired female love interest that kind of exists only to help the male protagonist discover himself
She and this movie took fire at an ex of mine when I was 21. But that's okay, because he was also a POS. Ugh, that recoil at the first kiss was something he often did when I was interested in making out.
My boyfriend dragged me to see this movie and I found it to be frustrating. I understand the idea of women choosing to be submissive can also be a form of empowerment but with that being said watching Nicole crash out behind this little boy rubbed me wrong. Idk watching people making consecutive bad decisions annoys me so I was kinda at a disadvantage going into it but this one really stressed me out. 😂
Don't know what was stressful about it. She was fully in power and consenting when they weren't playing. She discovered something about herself that she was ashamed of for years.
The way I got so upset when they were acting up in the office, cause that’s people’s place of work and the likely hood of someone walking in on them is so much higher. You’re stupid rich get another apartment or stick to a hotel.
So many “bdsm” movies fall short because they aren’t actually “bdsm movies”. The writers either aren’t knowledgeable enough about the topic or they don’t care to be. That’s why there’s a pervasive pattern of just depicting what amounts to abuse/abuses of power and slapping a kink label on it. The writers of kink related movies not being able to understand/depict kink as separate from or different from actual abuse has implications for what type of messaging surrounding kink is out out there, especially when the film presents itself as having an important message or question about such complex topics/issues. It’s one of the reasons the film feels so lacking. Along with it not being able to choose what type of film it wants to be and committing to that. There are so many things it could’ve done to better embody the type of film it wants so badly to be: This film could’ve actually explored the trauma/cult aspect bc in reality kink can be used to self-harm or to help work through certain traumas depending on how it’s used. Especially if shame is brought up (double especially bc she’s SO ashamed over quite tame stuff, girl what did that cult do to your entire relationship with intimacy?) The film couldve actually delved deep into the power dynamics of a female employer taking advantage of a male employee post metoo, and how women who abuse power in that way are responded to differently. They could’ve explored how her taking the submissive role in the dynamic did not absolve her of an abuse of power. Along with the shame of having kinks, we could have seen something interesting in her developing shame in said abuse of power or alternatively, being the kind of person who revels in being able to take advantage of others along with the implications of that. If they were dead set on making yet another movie with the male dom/female sub duo, they could’ve explored the tension between two realities: empowerment can be found in submitting but there are people who use kink to reinforce gender roles/abuse women. Especially with what’s happening in this story, that “fatal attraction” type beat people brought up would be more fitting because this guy shows up wanting to have power exchange with a woman but not a conversation about boundaries and consent first. That’s usually the type of person in kink circles who’s there for something more nefarious. They use the language and the props but are actually just misogynisssts, abusers or predators of some sort. And if it didn’t wanna do the work to do right by any of the complex topics it insists on using to advertise itself as “deep” and “provoking”, it should have just gone ahead and indulged in being a shameless display of smut where the writer can air out their fantasies for people who’re in the mood for a shameless display of smut where a writer airs out their fantasies. There’s nothing wrong with that just own it. Just please don’t tell me we’re on a journey about self love/acceptance, healing from cult trauma/shame, challenging gender & power structures and rebuilding family when you just wanted to make a sexy movie about daddy dom, his kitten and the dramatically torid affair they keep from her husband (cause I know the concept of infidelity - and all the secrecy involved - gets some people going too).
literally!!!! that man was an abuser. im like how do ppl not see this!!!! including kendal, who usually calls out men like the twink we watched in the movie
@ On one hand yes, on the other isn’t the point of fantasy to portray things that we want but are not realistic? There’s a trap here of falling into ultra realism that fails the “erotic” part. But there should be more relationships that are nuanced and have enthusiasm especially on the s type’s sude.
@hayley179gI mean a huge part of movie critique is discussion. It’s kindof a given that every movie is the movie that it is, no one really thinks they’ll influence that by talking about alternative possibilities. The reason channels & forums like this exist is so people who like analysing & talking about films can share opinions, expectations, ideas, comparisons, experiences etc. I think what you missed/misunderstood about the reason for OPs speculations & overall critique was not that they wanted ultra realism (they did say if the film just wanted to be about the fantasy thatd be chill too) but that the filmmakers sell this film as being so many things that it just fails to execute when there were so many possible ways to achieve those standards. The examples also give their own insight as to where discourse & conversations on some of the ideas brought up in the film currently are (in contrast to where the film thinks they are.) I’m also not the first to say this either but enough folks from the bdsm community have already spoken about how much certain types of filmmakers help spread questionable or harmful info about kink or the community. Which while those things are also obviously based on fantasy, can result in great harm when not handled with care & due diligence. In the end, the filmmakers wanted to make a movie that serves as an exploration of complicated topics but were too lazy or careless to actually explore any of said complex topics decently so there’s gonna be a disconnect with many audience members like we’re seeing. I do think movies (whether ultra realistic or hyperfantastic) can be both sexy & thought-provoking without one having to take away from the other. This film just kinda failed at executing both imo.
Making a character cheat, especially on a loving partner, just immediately makes me hate them. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, simply dead to me. If you’re willing to betray someone who loves you, you ain’t shit.
@hayley179g I would say abusive relationships where the person is for some reason or another unable to leave the partner. I think that is more like a hostage situation than anything.
@anthill1510nah bruh. in this movie she cheated on someone who actually loved her. idk if you know someone who cheats or you might be a cheater, but that take ain’t it
This movie tries to gaslight me into believing Nicole Kidman and that plank of wood are hot and attractive individuals that would make an even hotter couple 😒😐
@jada161 That’s not a given, especially with this movie. What she’s attracted to is the dynamic she’s been craving, not the person. Not to say the person is ignored, but it’s not a matter of “he’s prettier than Antonio Banderas,” she likes that he knows what she likes and is mindful enough to do it. For some reason her husband is not a source for this.
In most stories where a married character cheats on their significant other, they normally get forgiven for cheating, and stay happily married. It probably wouldn't go as smoothly in real life.
I know too much about Esther Perel to assume that cheating is an automatic dealbreaker, but I think movies are a really poor medium for demonstrating the time and effort it requires to truly earn forgiveness, to say nothing of rebuilding trust.
One main reason why I have no interest in watching this movie is they dared to cast Antonio Banderas and then wanted me to believe that some 23-year-old scrub was the more desirable man. Absolutely not. I cannot suspend my disbelief that much.
But the casting was intentional though. Halina Reijn, the director, said that she wanted someone like Antonio Banderas to play the husband, someone who is undeniably handsome and sexy, so the viewer would think "Who the fuck would cheat on Antonio Banderas?"
Right where’s the monster f*ckers but there’s an actual monster I’m of course not saying this to have something catered to myself and liked minded people
Same here 🖐🏿 call me sensitive but media and books are an escape for me so i like to keep it shallow/morally just to a point 😅 like you lose me when its brought up IN POV especially
While I personally don’t stand for cheating and I’m tired of movies depicting couples making up after cheating without showing the intense work that needs to be done to repair it, I think it makes sense for the characters. Like I could see this high powered couple who have been together for 20 years deciding it’s more effort to divorce and break up the family than it is to stay and figure it out in a less than satisfactory way.
i feel like this movie would be really frustrating for me 💀 im trying to find the appeal but how are u gonna let a broke intern tell u what to do?? girl bye im not convinced.
Yea what the comment above said, it’s a kink. The fact that this guy who isn’t financially or status-wise more superior than her, yet has all this power over her, gets her going. Me personally though, I couldn’t do it because I don’t like being told what to do lol
this is why youtubers find you people annoying because i said “frustrating for ME” and you’re trying to tell me that i dont get it. this is my silly little opinion.
@deftonesiren If you got it it wouldn’t be frustrating for you. They are informing you that you lack information, which is something you’re unaware of.
4:20 This was my exact thought during the movie because I understand the message but the “what if?” is derailed by me logically thinking in response, “if I was in Nicole Kidman’s character’s position I would have fired him for inappropriate behavior and not even engaged in anything intimate, because idc what this string bean is trying to do, he can leave me to my job and my family thank you very much.”
Lmaooo literally for one me personally I am not attracted to skinny men so he wouldn’t have even caught my eye idc how dusty and creaky my cooch was 😭😭. I would have definitely reported his ass and got a HUGE bag suing as well.
or if you so badly needed the DnD dick, just talk with your husband and arrange an open relationship with defined boundaries and have the intern work somewhere else to remove that power dynamic
@emilyau8023 Girl you’re under every comment thread defending this movie LOL. It’s okay that other people didn’t like it and you did, no need to call people “prudes/vanilla” because they felt the movie was bad. As someone who enjoys kinky stuff and film; it wasn’t that good and definitely didn’t represent the community that well. The characters felt underdeveloped and had plot lines that needed to be legitimately fleshed out so we can understand them but didn’t. Added onto that, not many people can see the fantasy in submitting to a younger intern who makes basically no money at your OWN company. If this was a stranger that had no ties and maybe a actual job, or person that legitimately had a standing in life than maybe more people would be understanding about it, but it’s a predatory relationships between a boss and her employee which she can definitely get fired for inappropriate conduct. As who would they believe more: A intern or a higher up who’s been working at the company for years now. That’s not kinky, just weird. The main gripe I had with the movie was that it took a vastly explored trope and didn’t add anything to it. If you wanted to make a smut film then lean into that, but acting as if your film starts conversation about dynamics when in reality it’s the same story as every other “kinky dom/sub” with a woman and man is just…so inexplicably boring!
i believe that the film somewhat failed to explore in depth the topics it wanted to discuss: childhood trauma, shame, cheating, female sexual autonomy. for example, the main character was raised in a cult but we barely got to understand/see that. she was doing therapy in a few scenes of the film (i forgot the name of the kind of therapy but it's the scenes where she has something on her head and she is seeing images fly quickly in front of her). when someone is raised in such a constructive manner, it can affect the way their sexuality develops. more often than not, most people have a very repressed sense of sexuality. when she said that she never had an 0rgasm in 20 YEARS to her husband, i understood that as her not being able to feel sexual or be sexual with a loving and equal partner. it seems like she needs a power imbalance and she needs to be humiliated to feel aroused. i wish they explored her childhood more so that we could understand the film a bit better! (english isn't my first language so sorry if this kind of doesn't make sense) i loved it regardless :)
21:26: it's amazing how many times you can catch a cheater because they feel guilty about what they've done and so they go out of their way to suddenly be uncharacteristically attentive or kind. her visiting him at the theatre fits the bill.
"You can get into omegaverse, h*e, you don't have to go cheatin on your family!" is a true Hall of Fame quote that I will now be peppering into my conversations at every possible opportunity
Her daughter being a “reflection” of her is also kind of saying if she got it out of her system when she was young then she would be normal and acceptable now. Because society hates a woman’s sexuality but they are 1% more okay with it if she’s 16.
I think that bit on asking if desire is related to trauma is very real to me. Its something that is a bit better formed to the thesis on shame because if it is trauma it feels like your response should be avoided.
I totally get what you’re saying about tying the kink to cults. Just wanted to chime in as someone who grew up having shame beaten into me by the churches I was attending, it did affect how I communicated (or didn’t communicate) about intimacy. It’s ruined nearly all of my relationships so I can see what they were trying to do with the shame being from a cult and it destroying everything for her.
@emilyau8023 I'd say that's weird, but I'm acespec and polyam so I prolly just don't get it? It just seems like a time to have fun and know eachother better, and "satisfaction" is just a nice bonus, but if society has taught me anything, it's that Sexuals are pretty intense about this kinda stuff. Kennie was right on that she needed to communicate her wants/needs/desires more or else break up; like, I had no sympathy for this character (but I haven't watched the actual movie, so I'm not really invested in the narrative). Anyway, that's getting into all the "so much of this movie lost me" part rather than the humorous quip about Mr. Banderas.
You're completely right about the dead-end of "yeah, the boss has the power," and what's also just ridiculous, from what you're saying in the video (I haven't watched the movie myself) is the assumption that the power dynamic of a BDSM scene is... real? In a proper, healthy scene, both people negotiate and both have an equal amount of say about what happens. This assumption that only Doms can have power ignores how much sexual harassment takes the shape of "Step On Me M*mmy" or shit like that. I myself dealt with a sex pest who was wildly subby in his end goal, but he still used as much of his power as possible to harass women into playing along with his fantasies. Profound misunderstanding of what *actual* power is and what the role of a "sub" is, too. Side note: It is somewhat stunning that 50 Shades of Grey featured more negotiation than this movie did. Wild.
I feel strongly like Sam's character was doing improv the whole time. It felt to me like he would say and do certain things just to see how they would land and how far she would allow him to transgress the most obvious boundaries. For me, it made me see him as some kid from around the way who was being (repeatedly) given power by a woman who really wanted a moment to surrender hers. This is literally where my mind went every time I saw his effing Sambas. It was kind of nauseating. I didn't buy that Sam was inherently dominant, nor that he had some strange, irresistible pull. I feel like Romy projected on him throughout the movie - possibly as an excuse to misuse her power the way that she did. Maybe even deliberately threaten the power and stability in her life that she didn't feel deserving of (i.e. make the shame in her mind materialise in her reality).
That specific ND, awkward, white guy is a very specific type and they are very real. Lort, I had to pause and catch my breath from laughing at hiw real that specific type that is. And they can and will blow your back out. Then infodump about their hyper fixation like you didn't just get a full body workout.😂
People want to imagine very hot and smooth bdsm people, but we know, we know the nerds dominate that scene in reality 😂 The kinkiest people I know are autistic trans DnD players
The more she described, the more vividly I could remember some examples in my mind and it was like a psychic jumpscare 😭 I laughed so hard it triggered a coughing fit, I was not expecting such a dead on description ☠️
I wish Samuel was just a honeypot sent to gather blackmail on Romy either by Esme to secure her promotion or male colleagues who hate her. It would also make more sense if she was single and was struggling with dating guys who expected her to be more assertive/dominant in the relationship due to her ceo persona and maybe some latent control issues.
the cult thing mightve been a reference to the shame where because she thinks her sexual desires come from such a taboo thing she can't really describe what she wants because she thinks it maybe relates to that
A lot of cults use sex to control and even if she was never assaulted as a child being in that type of environment is child abuse and exploring that as a layer of her shame briefly instead of a throw away line would have been fascinating. Seriously they could have cut out all the office politics and done a really interesting deep dive into shame esp for an older woman’s sexuality. It’s very frustrating when there is an interesting story just right there
first commentary on this movie ive seen that echos the voice in my head that kept repeating "but shes his BOSS" bc that is truly where all the 'playing with power dynamics' fails bc at the end of the day... she's still his damn boss!
They way you describe the Sam character makes me feel like it should have been Brennan Lee Mulligan in the role lol Like it just makes me think of the Dom DM skit he did for Make Some Noise XD
A lot of your looks lately have been giving me 90s vibes and I'm not sure if I'm right or not (Norway 90s could be different from other 90s, Idk). Regardless of whether I'm right or not, it slaps. You look stunning as always. Amyway, thanks for the entertaining video!
My favorite bdsm movie is a Korean movie called love and leashes. Dominant woman submissive man. She isn’t his boss but she is a higher up in the company they work at because she was there first. It’s sooo funny, especially since the woman is still learning in the beginning but there are hot parts like when she literally drags him through the office by his tie, in heels, cursing him out (it’s night no one else is there lol
I wanted to like this movie so bad but I needed a bit more. If the boy would have dominated Antonio at the end. I would have said ooh this is interesting but the ending just leaved me like what was the purpose of this film. If Nicole says her speech to the chairman. Then we see her being tied up by Antonio or something bdsm. Then we hear Antonio say what’s next sir and we see Samuel. The end… but we got some weird dancing with a dog and Nicole face down.
@Ashbrash1998it would have been more interesting in the power relationship which was the more successful parts of this movie. I think Antonio character would have clearly done it for his wife and the part when he had the panic attack would have been the perfect Segway to that ending. A great ending would have been her telling the chairman I pay people to humiliate me. Then have Antonio tying her up and when he finishes he gets on his knees for Samuel and say sir what’s next.
i had a similar thought !! they oddly had good chemistry in that moment, it got me to sit up in my seat a little bit, which is not what they intended i'm sure lmao
I hated this movie😂 everyone (except Antonio Daddy-deras😏) got on my last nerves! The Dom didn't feel like a Dom at all, he was weaker than the guy they got to play Christian Grey. Kidman was in Eyes Wide Shut so I was expecting more chemistry between her and Dom and I just wasn't feeling that from them. I just couldn't get past the bumbling, was ready to leave before the credits rolled.
I haven't actually laid my sweet virginal eyes on Sanctuary yet, but I trust everything Amanda the Jedi has said about how good it is. Margaret Qualley ran so Nicole Kidman could crawl I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The brief kat blaque crossover was unexpected but appreciated! It was surprising to know that two different parts of my viewing portfolio know of each other lol
This movie really disappointed me. I was honestly expecting a fatal attraction type movie. But I felt like the two leads didn’t have the chemistry or rather the intimate scenes were too awkward and cringey. There were moments where my theater giggled at scenes. I felt like the husband and affair partner had more chemistry. And lot of times things happened but there wasn’t a lead up to event and it seemed to come out of nowhere, like him knowing she wanted to be controlled.
oh my god you articulated my thoughts on this movie SO WELL !! i was left so dissatisfied for all the reasons you laid out, but i just couldn't put my finger on them. i also found the confrontation at the end with the husband, wife and side boy-toy VERY interesting and kinda wish there was more of that ??? more exploration of her husband coming to accept that side of her and having her come to find out he may have been way more open all this time. u mentioned a sex therapist, and like in a fucked up way i don't think they intended, sam ends up being their sex therapist lmao??? i agree so hard the gender dynamic part of the narrative just didn't hit the way they wanted to, and i have to wonder if that's because of our view of the world as black women?? like that's not to say the same situation couldn't have played out if romy was black, but i fear it would've been way different (and i find it SO interesting that her woc assistant is the one that calls her out on her behavior first?? and romy's treatment of her was... also interesting lol but when her white male colleague confronts her about it, its this entirely different energy?? that was interesting) and this felt like an exploration of sub/dom dynamics from someone who only has ever dipped their toes into the surface understanding of it?? like you kept saying, all they ever show us is that she likes being spanked and maybe held down?? she likes the riskiness of the situation too, but like... that's the super dark shit?? okay movie lol and the things you said about the power in submission, someone with a very shallow view of those things wouldn't bother to explore that i feel, which is a big way this movie flops as someone who is into those things as well. like there is so much information on bdsm and its SO easy to get to, what is the reason for all this bumbling, yanno?? like cmon guys but yeah, great video as always and this beat?? this hair?? you always eat ✨
I couldnt deal when samuel throws a tantrum after he goes to her house. Like immediately turned off. There was no power dynamic there for me, besides him acting like an actual spoiled 12 year old, which like ew, who wants to f*ck that??
Kennie, in the shithole of a reality we exist in, I know I never have to be afraid to watch your content. Thanks for being hilarious and keeping things light so I can ✨ escape ✨ p.s. the eyeshadow eats
correct me if I'm wrong but haven't rich people and CEOs gotten away with so much worse than sleeping with an intern or having an unusual kink. The stakes don't feel high enough for me
14:01 I feel violated that you just read my boyfriend for filth like that 💀 He’s exactly all of that except he’s got a little more meat on his bones and he’s pretty sociable since he’s a bit of a country boy. I love him to bits 💕 Edit: no serial killer vibes either, so that’s a plus lmao
I haven't watched the movie but I wish they would have gone all the way with switching the roles not just putting a woman in a place of power but also putting her in the place of the Dom
Could also have been interesting to see the man CEO in the sub position from like, an employee who's happy not being in power I still don't condone these boss/employee relationships but would be different
sort of similar but you might wanna check out Sanctuary (2022)! it explores a relationship between a dominatrix and her male client who is about to become a ceo.
When you mentioned that moment where they tried to imply or blame the cult for her desires it reminded me of a similar storyline in the show Tuca and Bertie. Bertie has a very similar desire for being in a power dynamic and is afraid of it being a result of trauma and feels ashamed. The biggest difference is that in the show Bertie's therapist tells her that maybe it IS a way of her brain trying to take her power and autonomy back, or it's not and she would've be into that regardless. I wonder if the movie would've handled that plot point similar to how "tuca and bertie" did then if it wouldve worked with the shame plot and actually been valuable?
I wished that they played more into her feelings toward her husband’s play. It played so much into her kink and almost as a reflection of their relationship. I think it could have helped the audience understand her more because her kinks from beginning to end were kinda all over the place for a movie
Kennie please bring back the makeup tutorials! You have been absolutely serving looks these past few videos, and I’ve been craving a tutorial for each of them! Please bring back makeup tutorials! 💖💖
Go to buyraycon.com/kennie to get up to 20% off sitewide! Brought to you by Raycon
Can you PLEASE watch The Love Witch & review it please please
Kink or not, she had been married for 19 years and never once told her husband that he couldn't...? Girl...
There was an actual study done that half of women in the test population were faking it. That was a lot of women. It's definitely a problem.
This!!! Like as if he was abusive or sum like damn😭😭
Look I agree but it took me almost five years because he’s so sweet and I really didn’t want to make him feel inadequate. There are also the men that get way more aggressive when you tell them something like this they think it’s like your doubting their manhood. Even if they know your not happy with it
especially since he was trying and wanted to like girl please
Ehhhh. I get it unfortunately but she doesn't seem like the type to spare feelings. If you start off by faking it then you just look like a liar I guess
i think the most realistic aspect of this movie is a CEO having a pet kink. and never communicating with their spouse.
Fr😭😭😭
“While not communicating with their spouse” lol telling your spouse you cheated or is cheating won’t make it better or ok
@ couldnt she have said something... before?
Facts ppl really keep secrets like that the movie is about weird fetishes being accepted
I think right off the bat one of the most unrealistic things about this movie is that a CEO of a whole company doesn’t own a vibrator
😂😂😂
Right!?! I own one and im poor
Being raised with, "wholesome family values," will fuck you up like that, I guess.
@jaysonjackson3455 how? And since when was it a problem to be raised with wholesome/ good values? Isn’t that how every child should be raised?
⚰️⚰️⚰️
The idea that Antonio Banderas' THEATRE DIRECTOR husband wouldn't be into ROLEPLAY felt insane to me. Like give him any other career
using her husbands name as a safe word for the guy she's having an affair with,,,girl i screamed hearing that heeeelllpppp
"Horrible fantasies" cut to the most vanilla nonsense you've ever seen.
Not “vanilla nonsense” 😂😂
LITERALLY WHAT WAS THE MILK????
The makeup look is a definite 10 out of a 10, the frosty blue is stunning
WHO is responsible for Nicole Kidman’s wigs of late - HATEFUL
Her wigs been bad
Right 😮 even in Big Little Lies
The whole time watching perfect couple I was like What Is This Wig?? WHY is this wig???? When Amelia said that her own mom was really self conscious about her wig (which was also clearly a terrible wig, but at least there the idea was that both the audience and the other characters know that it's a wig and there's an in-universe reason for her to be wearing a wig she's not really comfortable with) I expected Nicole Kidman's wig to become plot-relevant later on. But no.
They need the person from Practical Magic to come back 😭
@kris......... she needs Wendy Williams’ wigologist 🙏
You don’t have to go cheat on your husband, you can pick up the omegaverse 💀💀💀💀💀💀
😂
Kennie please watch LOVE & LEASHES. Its a korean office romance movie where the guy is the sub. The lady has to learn how to dom him. Its campy and but actually very wholesome in how it portrays the S&M community ??? And its not p*rn.
I think you would really enjoy it 😂
Omg I just replied to someone about this movie 😂 My asexual & kink geek ass is so happy to see another mention ^^
that would be so fun to see kennie watch. it is the perfect kinda campy for me with this kinda topic,
I'm not part of the bdsm community, so I can't speak to it's accuracy, but my goodness I did enjoy this film
You are like the fourth person that I've seen reccomend this.I This solidified that I need to watch this.
It's based on a webtoon!
"Babyratu" is so cursed I love it 💀
2023 had Barbenheimer
2024 had Babyratu
Still waiting for a big blockbuster movie wit a femdom and a male sub. like when we gon switch it up
Love and Leashes (Netflix Movie from South Korea) is the most mainstream film I’ve seen with this particular dynamic. I watched it recently after I read some of the webtoon; it was a cute/fun watch ^-^
Right or one with a queer relationship
We kinda had that in Arcane with Ambessa and her...ahem...local cuisine
then i’d finally be interested in seeing something of this genre
i don't think it was mainstream but Sanctuary (2022) explores a relationship between a dominatrix and her male client who is about to become a ceo.
KENNIE IM BEGGING YOU BRING BACK THE MAKEUP AND MOVIE VIDEOS YOU CANT KEEP GRACING US WITH THESE AMAZING LOOKS AND NO TUTORIAL 😭❤️🩹
so true !!!! we need it
Genuinely first thing I thought seeing the thumbnail
This!!!
Maybe she doesn’t like doing it
The eye looks have been giving for sure.
I was probably 7 when I watched it and had the biggest crush on him 😅 highly recommended 90s Antonio Banderas too
@ChitaDiaries Wow two beautiful people in one movie? I'm honestly excited. Thanks for the rec!
That’s intentional, on both counts. There’s a reason the husband’s usually unlikeable and a reason he isn’t in this one.
@hayley179g yeah i think it works with that dynamic i just thought it was interesting that this was so different
The description of Samuel kills me lmaooo
Was it just me or did your minds also go to Pete Davidson 😂
@felisha209 she didn’t lie though. We all know that guy and would bang them but won’t tell no one. It was a college experience
big deek, white, neurodivergent DND PLAYER WAS SO SPOT ON, I LITERALLY CHOKED ON MY WATER
What I'm getting from this is they finally made maniac pixie dream boys in this movie
Don’t forget the Mormon/ Christian vibes it has when it comes to sexuality and doesn’t even dip the toe in for some reason
they’ve been doing manic pixie dream boys! like the fault in our stars
I'd argue Titanic is a 90s example of the Manic Pixie Dream Boy lol
Ok so I’m old, what is this 😂😂 (but no really)
@soclose2hermanic pixie dream girl is the original trope, i wouldn’t do a very good job pf explaining it. But imagine any quirky, colourful haired female love interest that kind of exists only to help the male protagonist discover himself
“It’s really giving tall, skinny, big-dick, white, D&D-playing neurodivergent-“ Kennie you just roasted every single one of my male friends 🤣
The important question. Are any of them single? Hehe 😊
@emilyau8023she should stay ashamed Lol
@emilyau8023 she didn’t discover something. She knew it for years but kept it from her husband then did this. She should be ashamed
@emilyau8023 Lol you're asking why someone found a chaotic situation stressful? Is it genuinely that surprising? 🤣
Nah I feel that. It's bc I'm tired of the submissive women trope 😭. I know it's people's thing but I'm just tired of seeing it.
What pmo the whole time was that THEY WEREN’T EVEN PUTTING ANY EFFORT IN HIDING THEIR RELATIONSHIP 😤
The way I got so upset when they were acting up in the office, cause that’s people’s place of work and the likely hood of someone walking in on them is so much higher. You’re stupid rich get another apartment or stick to a hotel.
That was apart of the kink for Romy. The fear of getting caught. She mentions it at the end with Jacob that she wants to feel something is at stake.
“Do you wanna lose everything? Cause that’s how you’re acting” 🤣🤣
There are so many things it could’ve done to better embody the type of film it wants so badly to be:
This film could’ve actually explored the trauma/cult aspect bc in reality kink can be used to self-harm or to help work through certain traumas depending on how it’s used. Especially if shame is brought up (double especially bc she’s SO ashamed over quite tame stuff, girl what did that cult do to your entire relationship with intimacy?)
The film couldve actually delved deep into the power dynamics of a female employer taking advantage of a male employee post metoo, and how women who abuse power in that way are responded to differently.
I completely agree. I hope one day we get a good mainstream movie about kink dynamics that isn't extremely misinformed
You said a lot, and there’s a lot that the movie _could’ve_ been about, but it was about what it was about. Everything else is a matter of opinion.
The examples also give their own insight as to where discourse & conversations on some of the ideas brought up in the film currently are (in contrast to where the film thinks they are.)
I’m also not the first to say this either but enough folks from the bdsm community have already spoken about how much certain types of filmmakers help spread questionable or harmful info about kink or the community.
Any scenario where cheating is okay?
@hayley179g I would say abusive relationships where the person is for some reason or another unable to leave the partner. I think that is more like a hostage situation than anything.
I couldn't get into the movie because of this....
Probably comfortable for you to live in such a simple world, until it comes crumbling down because complex reality happened.
@anthill1510nah bruh. in this movie she cheated on someone who actually loved her. idk if you know someone who cheats or you might be a cheater, but that take ain’t it
Random but Antonio is still sooo fiiiiine, like aging like wine!
the friends that watched it and I were all like “how could you cheat on that MAN?! you have him in the palm of your hand!!!!”
I ran here to say this 😂😂😂
This movie tries to gaslight me into believing that this plank of wood is hotter than Antonio Banderas
This movie tries to gaslight me into believing Nicole Kidman and that plank of wood are hot and attractive individuals that would make an even hotter couple 😒😐
Is it? When did the movie say that?
Well i imagine that if she’s cheating on her husband with him then she puts the intern at a higher level of allure and attraction than her husband
😂😂😂😂
In most stories where a married character cheats on their significant other, they normally get forgiven for cheating, and stay happily married. It probably wouldn't go as smoothly in real life.
If history has taught us anything, that unfortunately that’s sounds like a lot of peoples real lives😂
I know too much about Esther Perel to assume that cheating is an automatic dealbreaker, but I think movies are a really poor medium for demonstrating the time and effort it requires to truly earn forgiveness, to say nothing of rebuilding trust.
Oh trust me it does not lol! My parents went thru this and uh no they didn’t make up 😭 like yeah movies make things less complicated
A couple definitely exists where they stay together after cheating and communicating.
Irrelevant to all this but you're deadass everywhere
One main reason why I have no interest in watching this movie is they dared to cast Antonio Banderas and then wanted me to believe that some 23-year-old scrub was the more desirable man. Absolutely not. I cannot suspend my disbelief that much.
So true 😂
Antonio isn't my type. Is there a movie he was in that got so many women wanting him or something?
Women generally date men around their age. You’re projecting. The 23 part doesn’t make him less desirable to the avg woman
@Dolphinboi actually women generally prefer older men
But the casting was intentional though. Halina Reijn, the director, said that she wanted someone like Antonio Banderas to play the husband, someone who is undeniably handsome and sexy, so the viewer would think "Who the fuck would cheat on Antonio Banderas?"
34:56 WHY WE THROWING AWAY CAKE!?
My problem with this kind of movie is the characters always have the most vanilla kink in the world.Make a movie about someone into vore, you cowards.
right? always the most mild shit. I'd be so angry that my wife cheated on me because she wanted to get SPANKED. like come ON!
Right where’s the monster f*ckers but there’s an actual monster I’m of course not saying this to have something catered to myself and liked minded people
😂😂😂
And even when its not *as* vanilla they manage to make it FEEL vanilla LMAO
Lmao!! I agree 😂
I kinda liked it but I don't like cheating plot lines in general idk, like if you cheat it is over for me I can't take the relationship seriously
Same here 🖐🏿 call me sensitive but media and books are an escape for me so i like to keep it shallow/morally just to a point 😅 like you lose me when its brought up IN POV especially
REAL
Same. Can’t stand it.
That's life, though. It's pretty real for that.
Girl that description of the white boy dnd big d awkwardness was so specific and so accurate and I feel so targetted in my type💀
Same! She just described my husband 😭💀
When she said that, I was like👀
She basically described my partner, only even though we do switch roles, I'm still mostly the Dom and he's the Sub hahaha
Antonio Banderas getting outdone by what can be mistaken for a methhead was a BOLD CHOICE
LMAOOOOO
i feel like this movie would be really frustrating for me 💀 im trying to find the appeal but how are u gonna let a broke intern tell u what to do?? girl bye im not convinced.
It's a kink. She chose to obey him.
Yea what the comment above said, it’s a kink. The fact that this guy who isn’t financially or status-wise more superior than her, yet has all this power over her, gets her going. Me personally though, I couldn’t do it because I don’t like being told what to do lol
Because it's a kink? Y'all don't seem to get the movie at all.
this is why youtubers find you people annoying because i said “frustrating for ME” and you’re trying to tell me that i dont get it. this is my silly little opinion.
Have you guys never had a fantasy 😂 the film explores a fantasy that does happen irl
@emilyau8023Yes we’ve had fantasies lol. That still doesn’t negate from op’s opinion.
i believe that the film somewhat failed to explore in depth the topics it wanted to discuss: childhood trauma, shame, cheating, female sexual autonomy. for example, the main character was raised in a cult but we barely got to understand/see that. she was doing therapy in a few scenes of the film (i forgot the name of the kind of therapy but it's the scenes where she has something on her head and she is seeing images fly quickly in front of her). when someone is raised in such a constructive manner, it can affect the way their sexuality develops. more often than not, most people have a very repressed sense of sexuality. when she said that she never had an 0rgasm in 20 YEARS to her husband, i understood that as her not being able to feel sexual or be sexual with a loving and equal partner. it seems like she needs a power imbalance and she needs to be humiliated to feel aroused. i wish they explored her childhood more so that we could understand the film a bit better! (english isn't my first language so sorry if this kind of doesn't make sense)
i loved it regardless :)
She's doing EMDR!
@ yesss!! thank you i completely forgot the word :)
@fionagallagherapologist5968 you articulated this very well! i agree!
@rennisanctuary aaaahhhh thank you !!
This! ☝️☝️
21:26: it's amazing how many times you can catch a cheater because they feel guilty about what they've done and so they go out of their way to suddenly be uncharacteristically attentive or kind. her visiting him at the theatre fits the bill.
So basically Sam is a Manic Pixie Dream Boy for Uncommunicative Couples lmao
A Kennie J.D. and Kat Blaque crossover wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card, but I need it to be IMMEDIATELY 😭
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ME TOOO
Yeah she posted pics of her and Kat on Twitter a while back
Right????? Squee!
A woman being impressed (even surprised?) by a brazen white man is the least believable part of this movie
What does him being white have to do with anything? A woman can only be impressed with a non-white man?
"You can get into omegaverse, h*e, you don't have to go cheatin on your family!" is a true Hall of Fame quote that I will now be peppering into my conversations at every possible opportunity
Just started, and right away - the earring-eyeshadow combo is comboing
This video showing up a minute before im supposed to shower and looking for a vid to play in the bg, the stars have truly aligned for me today
Same lol
Oh I do that too!
YES same I need a kennie vid to shower lol
Pro tip: if you tape a ziploc bag to your shower wall you can watch videos in the shower hehe
Same!!
LMAOO When Romy asked Samuel what his sign is, I said, “Taurus,” out loud in the theater and embarrassed tf outta myself, but now I feel so validated.
i dont know much about signs but my bf is a taurus so now im curious, what is the "taurus vibe"? lol
@Larissa-zt6nr Usually calm, slow but steady and persistent work.
Noo he's absolutly gemini and rising scorpio
plot twist: sam was a fan of antonio the entire time and wanted to use romi to get to him lmao
Oooo that would have been a good twist.
Her daughter being a “reflection” of her is also kind of saying if she got it out of her system when she was young then she would be normal and acceptable now. Because society hates a woman’s sexuality but they are 1% more okay with it if she’s 16.
Can confirm the BDSM & nerd ven diagram is a circle 😂
I think that bit on asking if desire is related to trauma is very real to me. Its something that is a bit better formed to the thesis on shame because if it is trauma it feels like your response should be avoided.
The ending felt like an Emerald Fennell level third-act fumble.
LOOOL
Damn 😂 never seen a more accurate read of an emerald fennell joint
@fooloo993"Emerald Fennell joint" 😂😂😂😂
The “good girl” got it for me omg😭 he ate that
😂😂😂
Help that description of Sam 😂 yes I know it, and yes you’re right 😔
as an asexual all of this is wildly incomprehensible
this made me chuckle- I too am perplexed hahahaha
Well…..of course it is
So much of this movie lost me, but "cheated on Antonio Banderas" was just 0/10, not realistic. /j
right like, when i saw he was the husband i was like "she cheating on THAT for this boy?? oh this is not realistic" kfhsdkjgkws
You can look good all you want, but if you can't satisfy it leads to a difficult marriage.
Banderas.
What’s also weird is that her husband is a playwright, I thought people in theater had a reputation for being sexually open.
@emilyau8023 The problem is that how he can solve the problem, if he doesn't know about it.
It's giving Betty Boop, but cuter 😍
Lest it go unsaid, it's very brave of you, noted Christian virgin, to see this movie. 🙏 Thank you for your courage in bringing us this content 🙏
That specific ND, awkward, white guy is a very specific type and they are very real. Lort, I had to pause and catch my breath from laughing at hiw real that specific type that is. And they can and will blow your back out. Then infodump about their hyper fixation like you didn't just get a full body workout.😂
People want to imagine very hot and smooth bdsm people, but we know, we know the nerds dominate that scene in reality 😂
The kinkiest people I know are autistic trans DnD players
The more she described, the more vividly I could remember some examples in my mind and it was like a psychic jumpscare 😭 I laughed so hard it triggered a coughing fit, I was not expecting such a dead on description ☠️
no cuz why did she describe my type word for word? felt like I had to look for hidden cameras.
Lmaaaaooo 😭😭😭
Sounds like you've had fun. I'm jealous.
COMMIT TO A DOMINATRIX YOU COWARDS!
That blue eye makeup is🤩
I did not like Nichole Kidman makeup in this movie. Your telling me this is a multi million dollar boss and her lips are just that chapped!!
as a dog owner I have to clarify that, in fact, that was not, a VERY AGGRESSIVE dog ;)
Being submissive is not shameful but her behaviour in this movie is. I got second-hand embarrassment
Kennie continuously mentioning how realistic the O's sound made me wanna go see this damn movie, cause ion believe it 😂
I LOVE THE BLUE EYESHADOW
As someone who has *intimate* "through the wall" knowledge of the archetype being described, I can confirm he indeed has this vibe. 😂😅
Oscar Wilde once said, "Everything in the world is about sex but sex. Sex is about power."
42:19 🗣️ IT'S GETTIN' STICKYYY
the cult thing mightve been a reference to the shame where because she thinks her sexual desires come from such a taboo thing she can't really describe what she wants because she thinks it maybe relates to that
A lot of cults use sex to control and even if she was never assaulted as a child being in that type of environment is child abuse and exploring that as a layer of her shame briefly instead of a throw away line would have been fascinating.
They way you describe the Sam character makes me feel like it should have been Brennan Lee Mulligan in the role lol
Like it just makes me think of the Dom DM skit he did for Make Some Noise XD
Lmao. His presence alone would’ve bumped this film up from a 2/10 to a solid 6.
25:17 CORPORATE MATH
"If you don't know how to treat him, I can try to figure it out" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wanted to like this movie so bad but I needed a bit more.
That would have been interested and an ending not really done before.
Yes! For a sec i thought thats what they were gonna do but was disappointed
Their one moment at the end had the most chemistry in the entire movie
I hated this movie😂 everyone (except Antonio Daddy-deras😏) got on my last nerves! The Dom didn't feel like a Dom at all, he was weaker than the guy they got to play Christian Grey. Kidman was in Eyes Wide Shut so I was expecting more chemistry between her and Dom and I just wasn't feeling that from them. I just couldn't get past the bumbling, was ready to leave before the credits rolled.
"If you don't know how to treat him, I can try to figure it out." 😂😂
The girl who plays the rebel daughter is Esther Rose McGregor, daughter of Ewan McGregor. She is bisexual and so is her sister
I haven't actually laid my sweet virginal eyes on Sanctuary yet, but I trust everything Amanda the Jedi has said about how good it is. Margaret Qualley ran so Nicole Kidman could crawl I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"No, it's cool, actually, my mom was just REALLY into Romy and Michele's High School Reunion."
And lot of times things happened but there wasn’t a lead up to event and it seemed to come out of nowhere, like him knowing she wanted to be controlled.
kennie looks like she’s in a polyamorous relationship with the sea moon and stars
oh my god you articulated my thoughts on this movie SO WELL !! i was left so dissatisfied for all the reasons you laid out, but i just couldn't put my finger on them. i also found the confrontation at the end with the husband, wife and side boy-toy VERY interesting and kinda wish there was more of that ??? more exploration of her husband coming to accept that side of her and having her come to find out he may have been way more open all this time. u mentioned a sex therapist, and like in a fucked up way i don't think they intended, sam ends up being their sex therapist lmao???
i agree so hard the gender dynamic part of the narrative just didn't hit the way they wanted to, and i have to wonder if that's because of our view of the world as black women?? like that's not to say the same situation couldn't have played out if romy was black, but i fear it would've been way different (and i find it SO interesting that her woc assistant is the one that calls her out on her behavior first?? and romy's treatment of her was... also interesting lol but when her white male colleague confronts her about it, its this entirely different energy?? that was interesting)
and this felt like an exploration of sub/dom dynamics from someone who only has ever dipped their toes into the surface understanding of it?? like you kept saying, all they ever show us is that she likes being spanked and maybe held down?? she likes the riskiness of the situation too, but like... that's the super dark shit?? okay movie lol and the things you said about the power in submission, someone with a very shallow view of those things wouldn't bother to explore that i feel, which is a big way this movie flops as someone who is into those things as well. like there is so much information on bdsm and its SO easy to get to, what is the reason for all this bumbling, yanno?? like cmon guys
but yeah, great video as always and this beat?? this hair?? you always eat ✨
Kennie you have to review Anora, it explores similar themes as Babygirl and I have a feeling you’re going to love it.
Whose gonna love a movie where part of the comedy was a sex worker being tied up by men and screaming for help?
I watched baby girl and Anora on the same flight 😂 shameless person in seat 46, it me 🤷🏾♀️
I couldnt deal when samuel throws a tantrum after he goes to her house. Like immediately turned off. There was no power dynamic there for me, besides him acting like an actual spoiled 12 year old, which like ew, who wants to f*ck that??
Kennie, in the shithole of a reality we exist in, I know I never have to be afraid to watch your content. Thanks for being hilarious and keeping things light so I can ✨ escape ✨ p.s. the eyeshadow eats
makeup is on point as always wow girl
correct me if I'm wrong but haven't rich people and CEOs gotten away with so much worse than sleeping with an intern or having an unusual kink. The stakes don't feel high enough for me
that's what she said 😅
Watching this review & Reading this comment post Coldplaygate...
2 marriages ending & everyone losing their jobs... CEO, HR Head...
MAYBE NOT. May. Be. Not.
😂😂😂
this blue look genuinely took my breath away wow
14:01 I feel violated that you just read my boyfriend for filth like that 💀 He’s exactly all of that except he’s got a little more meat on his bones and he’s pretty sociable since he’s a bit of a country boy. I love him to bits 💕
Edit: no serial killer vibes either, so that’s a plus lmao
this eye makeup is stunning omfg
Oh russet howling back was just too precious
I haven't watched the movie but I wish they would have gone all the way with switching the roles not just putting a woman in a place of power but also putting her in the place of the Dom
Could also have been interesting to see the man CEO in the sub position from like, an employee who's happy not being in power
I still don't condone these boss/employee relationships but would be different
sort of similar but you might wanna check out Sanctuary (2022)! it explores a relationship between a dominatrix and her male client who is about to become a ceo.
@malsjohn thanks for the recommendation I will check it 😁
When you mentioned that moment where they tried to imply or blame the cult for her desires it reminded me of a similar storyline in the show Tuca and Bertie.
