    If you wipe your own eye boogers away in the morning when you wake up, then you should wipe your dogs eye boogers too. you wouldn't want yours irritating your eyes so why would your dog?

    They have eye wipes at Petco that work wonders!! They don't burn the eyes and they clean and soften the gunk on the eyes so well. I keep them beside my bed and EVERY single day, I wipe my babies eyes off. It's so easy to keep their little eyes clear of junk, it just takes a little effort. Imagine having that hard goop stuck in the corners of your eyes?

    Oh thank you for this wonderful and informative little tutorial on eye buger cleaning. In the clinic I work in I’m ocd about icky eyes and ears. If I see it they are not going home without a cleaning. If it’s painful to the pet, the owner gets to see how to prevent it. Sadly I think it usually falls on deaf ears but I do it and hope they take the hint. Like brushing the hair this needs to be done daily. The flea comb is the best idea ever. Thanks Dede.

    When you tightened the leash on your stand there a quiet "thank you very much" played in my head. What a lovely Yorkie! He seems so sweet. You did a wonderful job with his eyes. Not only are you a good groomer you are a kind groomer. I have a nice groomer for my dog who is a Chihuahua mix. A Pet Smart groomer did my Pom years ago and I found her being too rough with him when I returned to pick him up early. He never went there again. He was the first little one to go to my present groomer.

    The groomer should be ashamed of the discomfort and pain she caused this poor dog!! A warm wash rag should have been laid on his eyes before they attempted to remove the gunk and then GENTLY removed with a fine tooth comb- all the pulling out of his hair made ME cry for him-so fucking unnecessary and mean!! Let alone all the free scissoring she did around the eyes-how irresponsibly careless this was-I’d sue your ass, but then again I’d NEVER take my dog to someone like this-did you even bother to go to school??

      @@jennifern297 rather than ridicule I will just say that now that you know about it the trick is to use a nit comb/flea comb 1-2x a day each eye and gently press up against the eyelid near the corner duct and comb down and away from the face and it will remove any goober gunk. Sometimes even a few hours is enough to check and see a new eye snotball that needs removal. It's just one of the minor costs of living with a yorkie but it's so worth it. They are little clowns that give us so much so let's be sure to give some back with good care. They depend on us to do right by them and in return we get true unconditional love. On the eye area I like to use a warm wet washcloth and apply it to the area first, and then I cut it out as much as I can. Then back with a warm washcloth and wipe the rest away. Way less painful than combing.

    • @andrewb4943
      @andrewb4943 2 года назад

      Agreed, a warm washcloth works well for small amounts but that is crazy how much this owner lets get built up. A flea comb works great as well if you get the area a lot more wet with your fingers first, but even then using wipes or a washcloth is necessary to remove the excess.

I would’ve never used a collar had I realized. I Felt awful. He got so bad at breathing when it collapsed, usually during summertime, as he’d have occasional bad spams-he’d turn purple and couldn’t stand!! If they can’t breathe proper, they can’t cool off in summer while panting (dogs can’t sweat) they loose energy to even stand (collapse) and susceptible to aspiration pneumonia. I couldn’t allow him to suffer anymore. Miss you Shorty ❤️

      As you make brushing them a pleasant daily routine and petting them all over and down their legs and over their paws they will slowly get used to their paws being touched. My vet told me walking my dog on a sidewalk would help wear down his nails while teaching him to have his nails trimmed. I do one nail a day so he doesn’t get worked up. It’s been a very slow process but he has improved. I think the noise of the nail being clipped startles him, too. So I pet him until he clams down and that ends it on a positive note.

    • @brittnievans3793
      @brittnievans3793 6 лет назад

      kayBTR I never thought of clipping one nail a day that’s a really good idea! They’re both boxer mixes with really short hair so they don’t really need brushed often but Ive been trying to pet and touch around their feet Atleast a couple minutes a day although I’m not sure it’s doing the smaller one much good the larger one is totally okay with everything until I actually try to clip them... he has a removed toe so I’m assuming that’s part of his problem with his feet :( I would like to walk them on the sidewalk everyday but I live in the middle of no where so that’s sortve out of the picture for me unless I walk them down my road which I can try they do keep them filed down pretty well just running outside on the grass somehow but the smaller one isn’t heavy enough to do a good enough job himself.. I keep working with them what I can though and I’m going to try clipping one a day and see how that goes hopefully it will improve but as it goes the only time I can clip the smaller ones nails is when I have someone else helping me hold him from getting away and biting because I swear he’s a karate master lol and the larger one is mixed with something huge (appears to be part Great Dane) and weighs about 130lbs so he’s a huge hassle himself as well. Atleast I was blessed with the third dog who is very tolerant I guess

      Scratching board with sandpaper - ours was so stressed by it and a trainer suggested this and has made general grooming easier bc he doesn’t get stressed when we dry or wipe paws anymore. For a stressed dog it’s a good force free option.

    What did he put in his ears? I use makeup pads dipped in very warm water to remove the guck on his eyes. Without it being hot, it would never soften. It comes off so much easier with the hot water makeup pad.

    Dee Dee, I've commented before a while back. I just had a suggestion. Some, not all dogs do better if they see themselves in a mirror! Kind of like a hairdressers station, so they can see what's going on. Doesn't always help, but it might surprise.
    Also mineral oil at the corners of eyes helps to release the eye boogers.

      you really shouldn't rub soap in that area since just like us, it's very sensitive. you wouldn't rub shampoo on your bits. clean flush with water is all you need.

      +thomas parisi - You mean to tell me you don’t put soap on your Johnson ❓Bawhahaha 😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing. I use an anti-bacterial soap on Lou-Ella. Doctors recommend you do this especially after intimacy. Fresh as a daisy 🌼. Trust me.

      often shampoo can be irritating. and this is his gf. i think you are missing the fact he did rinse his hind quarter very well. that's why it's important to keep the hair maintained in that area. there is no need to sit and scrub profusely in that area. if you are worried about the area smelling, wet wipe the dog right after to maintain cleanliness. but you should never put soap directly on genitals and nipples.

    I found that putting some unscented conditioner all around the prewetted eye booger before I even start the bath and leaving it in till the end then wash off and flea comb works wonders! I use the flea comb to put the conditioner, helps with precision.

    How do you prevent that hard buildup at his eyes? How does that happen? Are you supposed to wash their eyes everyday with an eye wash or just a wet towel? That’s so sad. That looks like it would hurt 😞

    I spritz colloidal silver and wipe almost every day. My little ones get used to it, it is routine and no build up. Colloidal silver is like water if it gets in their eyes (in fact I spritz a little in their eyes before and after so no germs can infect the eyes.

    People who just allow their animals to get so far out of hand and just unsanitary should be held accountable. Paying a heft grooming bill is not enough. I treat my pets like humans. They have feelings too. Poor guy! 😥

      I think education is huge when getting a pet. I don't think a lot of people understand the needs that go into a breed like this. My dads yorkie was always well groomed but as he got older he couldn't keep up with daily grooming. He passed recently and now I've got her now and have had to learn a lot. I agree with you though, some people out there dont care or "it's just a dog" mentally.

    Dede ....girl I so wish I had your videos like 10-15 years ago my Yorkie.. most little dogs have the eye boogers I guess it's from allergies or blowing dust? I took her to the vet he was telling me about a surgery that needed to happen! Not once was the washing the face every night ever mentioned to me and it never crossed my mind. Single mom working and going to college the idea of washing the face at night never crossed my mind! it's my fault but too late now I miss her so much!.
    Just saw the bath scene those eyes were nasty!! my girls was never like that!
