JW , incredible work accomplished . Thank you for doing what you do and doing it at such a high level . We love seeing these wonderful machines back in action !!!!! God Bless
Always glad to see a Jonathan video but not just before my wife wants to go shopping!! Anyway something to look forward to when I get back from shopping with "She who must be obeyed!" Thank you for posting Jonathan.🇺🇸🇬🇧
Jonathan, if you keep rescuing these engines you're gonna run outta dirt to set 'em on! It's great that you have the knowledge and skills to get these all working again.
The exhaust sounds very clearly here as saying "Super Fast, Super Fast". Especially when you had it running slow. Great build. Can't wait to see it run on its own steam. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video Johnathan W also nice engine for first for sure and did not bad for sure too ! Excellent in second part another engine got see runs in future to and get lots to work for long time too do ! Also if don't see on weekend come on May 8 Happy Mother's Day to your wife too and glad see keeping busy lots Johnathan W!
My grandfather was a mechanic, his first air impact wrench was a Chicago Pneumatic. If I recall correctly he bought it in the early 50’s. It replaced his electric impact as they were more common at that point. It was the only impact he used until he passed away a few years ago. It still works fine today.
great work J,install this onto an old car frame w seats a nicw little shell, and the belt turning the axle, polish it up shiny, folks will love it at the sunday show n tells
When I first see this engine run I know that deep down inside of your soul you are as proud as a new PAPPA I know I would be proud if I had done it. Great video Jonathan W.
That Leffel is now in good enough shape to run on air , it could run on steam . But I agree , while you're at it , might just as well fix the rest of it . Nice unit too . The firebox is right handy if the boiler is intact . As for that air compressor , I've noticed the same thing . Covered , it rots quickly . In an open shed , it tends to last far longer than out in the open . The difference is the air around it , able to keep it dryer in open air . Covered with a tarp traps more moisture in , plus dust , dirt , leaves , etc . around it . Faster oxidation rate , due to constant moisture presence . Thanks for the update , Jonathan ! Keep it coming !
You could fix the wreck of the titanic! Lol! Thats what keeps us all glued to your channel! Loved the bullet nose Studebaker episodes, wish i could buy it from you.
Machines that were built to work AND last! Thanks for bringing a piece of history back to the present. These old machines sure provided a good roadmap to our present day engines. Thanks for sharing Jonathan!
Thank you Jonathan for letting me visit on Monday after Easter. Hope you use my pocket knife. Really like all the projects your working on. Enjoy the steam engines. Nice talking to you.
Enjoyed the video Jonathan. I really like the rhythm of a steam engine. What a great way to relax and sleep. Makes me wish for a 3 or 4 minute looped recording of the sound.
Another Jonathan W steam engine revival video is just what the doctor ordered for a drab, overcast day (an added bonus is the sunshine in the video). I'm looking forward to the bigger engine running on steam once Jonathan is done, and Nana gives it the CatScan 😁
Great video!! I enjoyed seeing the equipment in the Bates Motel. I love to see old machines still living. It is funny to hear people saying they have to scrap things when you and I are the type of people to make whatever we need ind learn to fabricobble something if the knowledge is about to be lost. Just like those gears. I am sure you or someone will either have or make them the way we used to. Thanks for recording your travails...love that "new" steam engine and air compressor.
I am slowly learning stuff as you explain it Jonathan. I was way too young to understand what I was seeing when I was at the Skagit Queen Mining company and they ran everything off of a waterwheel or steem as all the jackhammers were steam. I might of been ten or eleven an it was real scary to someone that age. Thank you for the enduring patience you have with us
That was pretty cool watching it run. Great that you found another use for Model T bushings. That was a nice looking steam engine and air compressor model. I have never seen one like that. I see Jonathan's Steam Shop taking shape already.
Bevel gears........ differentials have a matched pair! Saw in a tractor magazine that a Fordson owner used a pair of Model A gears when he replaced the buzz boxes with a Farmall magneto. Might be hardened, use carbide or a tool post grinder on your lathe if alterations are required.
I've always wanted to build myself a sawmill for personal use and power it with a steam engine or a gas hit and miss engine, seeing this increased that want a lot! Seeing old equipment like that brought back to life is amazing!
That steam air compressor should have a very good capacity. Back in the 1920s Chicago Pneumatic had one model- the Class O Type 555- which had both a steam engine and a synchronous AC motor and could be driven either way. I'd imagine there are some still in use.
Hi Jon , FYI Laffel mfg. was in business and making Barrels and such for our countrys defence in LA. in the 1980s for sure and may still be. good to see your channel ,like the content
That's pretty wild that the covered part was more rusted. They tried to preserve it and caused it to be worse :( Didn't realize that Chicago Pneumatic was that old either!
I didn't know Buffalo Forge made steam engines!! I have a Buffalo Forge blower and hand cranked drill press in my Blacksmith shop. They made great stuff!!
Johnathan, you've got over 100,000 followers. A lot of us would like to see you save the rest of those Virginia engines. Have you thought about finding a way to let some of us help. There's very little that I can do personally but every little bit helps. Maybe a Patreon account?
Absolutely love what you been doing with all the steam engines and if sawmill just bring it back all the good old equipment that's already 100 years old and ready to go another 100 years.
JW , incredible work accomplished . Thank you for doing what you do and doing it at such a high level . We love seeing these wonderful machines back in action !!!!! God Bless
Always have loved these old steam engines, locomotives and hit n miss engines. Thanks for keeping this old girl alive
Old school education. Entertaining as all hell. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Jonathan for keeping our history alive.

Lovely to watch that old engine run
Jonathan, if you keep rescuing these engines you're gonna run outta dirt to set 'em on! It's great that you have the knowledge and skills to get these all working again.
man those brass tags are always so cool lookin , back when companies had some pride in their products
The exhaust sounds very clearly here as saying "Super Fast, Super Fast". Especially when you had it running slow.
Great build. Can't wait to see it run on its own steam.
Thanks for sharing.
Strong work to rehabilitate an engine over 100 years old. you are a wizard!

Engine sounds really good.

When I first see this engine run I know that deep down inside of your soul you are as proud as a new PAPPA I know I would be proud if I had done it. Great video Jonathan W.
Nice to see something whirling, hissing, thumping, etc. You got a good sound effects person working on your videos.

Your dedication and love for these old engines is infectious. Great to see them come to life.
Morning Jonathon!! Wow, pretty cool!! The Bates Motel....it fits!! I can only imagine how busy you've been...stay healthy!! God Bless!!
Been waiting for the next steam installment, and it was well worth the wait. The little vertical engine runs sweet.
I never cease to be amazed by the variety and scope of the knowledge you have!
Nice machinery. Always interesting information about them. Thanks for the video.
Just a Joy to watch you operate
You just keep amazing me. !!! Keep the videos coming.

I'm absolutely awed with these old pieces of equipment...fine specs didn't mean a whole lot it seems. As long as it's doing the job 👍
Nice👍
Awesome project!
Monstrous and beautiful.
Absolutely epic project! Great save of a lovely old machine. All the best from here!
