I feel a little ashamed now because my landlord (and you could say friend) and his wife are religious people who have some misguided views about gays and I didn't stand up to correct them when they were saying ignorant stuff

Parents don't have to be told.
One can't ask a minor if it wants a credit card; likewise one can't tell anyone things that is outside of their ability to comprehend.

My mom was 100 when I turned gay; she had a daily life expectancy of only 4 hours, why would you endanger someone's life and well being etc., with potentially mortifying news.

+cruz loera Gays can reproduce just as straights if that's what you were wondering. Our function isn't different, it's our attraction. There are methods such as surrogacy that enable procreation for those who wouldn't be able to do so.
