there is a reason why only the work of the Vaishnava Alvar is called the "Tamil Veda", and NOT the work of the Shaiva Nayanar.
The Alvar works are masterpieces of poetic verse, meter, phrasing, devotion, diction etc. just like the Vedas. the annunciation is deliberate, pointed, and perfect. when you hear the words reverberate off the large stone temple walls, they are both beautiful and haunting reminding you of His greatness.
the Shaiva Nayanar hymns on the other hand are presented in classical style which is more like pop-carnatic music. it is ok, but nothing close to what the Alvars accomplished
only the Alvar are credited with being as talented in composition and recitation as the Vedic sages who were 1000 - 2000 years their senior. Incredible work. cleanses the soul
