A blowdryer pointed at the tape as you peel it will warm up the glue and release it without having to compromise the seal agains paint leaking 😺 enjoyed this demo, thank you!
Stunning!...I've been searching to find tonalist tutorials as I just love them..just came across you and subscribed..just lovely. I'm hoping my paintings are half as lovely as yours..thank you so much ❤
1:18:50 just found your videos. I really enjoy the tonalism/realism. In your videos I would like to hear more often what colors you are mixing. But, thank you for doing these videos.
Oh my god Thank YOU. I have been needing some basic lessons! TOnalism is my religion. Calms me down when I paint with the simple palette. THank you for these skills! FOr sharing:)
Priceless tuitorial! It was pleasure to look how you built the whole paint, played with the colors and handle the brushes. I already subscribed for your channel. Greetings from Bulgaria!!!
I painted this one quite a few months ago and i can't remember if I used a reference photo or not, quite often I do these type of paintings from my imagination, but, like I said, I can't remember if I used a photo or not.
I mostly use very cheap ones. The reason is I prefer them because the can create a lot of interesting textures...just get cheap brushes and don't take good care of them.
Beautiful demonstration,! I loved it. I just want to know how much turpentine and how much Liquin you mix to dilute the paints. Thank you so much! Also can you tell me which brushes you use. Kind regards
The brushes I use are very cheap rounds, flats etc. It doesn't matter too much to me because in landscapes I am looking to keep the abstract and the brushes get mightily abused. As for liquin and spirits, I normally start with spirits first and lean into the liquin as I progress. I think that on is more of watching a demonstration along with experience. I hope that helps.
Questions - looks like paper…is this a canvas board. Why do you tape it? I love your work and palette, for me, a perfect old master’s approach. I’m from Canada - your accent catches me at times - horizon sounds like “ho-raisin” 😅
a lot of the times I only use my imagination that has been influenced by a lot of refferences, for example this painting is from a myriad of different photo. It is extra fine cotton canvas pinned to a cork board.
Thank you for making this. Beautiful art. Excellent tutorial. I think it would be better, however, with the music limited to the beginning and end of the video. You speak softly and the music is as loud as your voice so it interferes with the clarity of your instruction.
I have slightly cut the canvas a bit oversized. For example a 10x 8 canvas is cut at roughly 10.2x8.2. I then glue this to a 10x8 board, and the slight overcut allows me to position it properly. I use to glue them to an MDF board but recently I have been gluing them directly to a canvas board. Yes I'm gluing canvas onto a canvas board, because, well they are designed to be archival and not to warp. It's an experiment and so far it's going ok.
About 80% of my paints are nothing special, you can buy them anywhere and they are used for the underpainting. The finish paints are normally Windsor and Newton and I buy them from Jacksons Art Supplies.
I’m loving the tutorial but struggle sometimes to hear what you are saying. You refer at one point to some mindurian? access. What is the word and is it a photographic sourcing site?
I think this looks beautiful. Not everything has to be compositionally perfect. Nature is random after all. I remember years ago when Dennis Sheehan had his videos on RUclips, (He's a huge modern tonalist master) he said "although composition is important it's not as important as it feeling and looking good to the eye of the beholder." And I have to say in this case I agree. I think this is beautiful. It's so warm and comforting and the way the tree takes centre stage is mesmerising to me. I would love to have the insight to do this type of painting. It takes balls to break the rules.

The colours are mentioned throughout the video in a pop-up up in the section of the pallet (Top left hand of screen)

Very good video. could you be kind to say what kind of brushes you used? tanks
I mostly use very cheap ones. The reason is I prefer them because the can create a lot of interesting textures...just get cheap brushes and don't take good care of them.
This is beautiful, your instruction is very easy to understand, thank you for posting. Would you consider posting a version without the music?
i enjoyed the work but i want to hear what you say. please turn up YOUR audio volume and much quieter music. thanks.

@@allendixon Thank you for your reply. I really love to your painting demonstration.

Excellent
How do you prepare this for framing?
I have slightly cut the canvas a bit oversized. For example a 10x 8 canvas is cut at roughly 10.2x8.2. I then glue this to a 10x8 board, and the slight overcut allows me to position it properly. @@allendixon What a brilliant idea! Thanks for letting us know about this trick.
Hearing the music more than I can hear you. Will have to move on to another video. Will check this one out again if the music is adjusted
Hi! I was wondering if you could tell me where you buy your paints from? Please😊
I think I was referring to the online photo creating source called Midjourney.
Thee empty space on the left hand side makes my eye travel to left but thanks
why only yellow shades are used in tonalism
Wonderful but the music is tooooo loud…which makes it hard to hear you clearly….. loving your paintings, very helpful thanks Allen
Thank you very much. I have lowered the music volume a bit in my upcoming vids.
It’s too centered
Composition is looking a bit dubious so far

@@tabula123456agreed!
This is beautiful, like all of his paintings
Dubious??..🤔...
