Chainsaw Man: Why Aki Loved Himeno (It was Childhood Trauma) || Essay Series

This theory/explainer video is part of my Chainsaw Man Exained essay series. Here I explain Aki Hayakawa's relationship to Himeno, and in particular, the reason why Aki and Himeno became so close.
I focus on a scene where Aki first reciprocates Himeno's affection. It's a flashback to the early stages of their relationship as partners at Public Safety. One day while Himeno is waiting for Aki somewhere on the streets of Tokyo, the girlfriend of one of Himeno's dead partners approaches her out of the blue and slaps her in the face. Aki witnesses this event, and decides to take revenge by pursuing the woman and secretly sticking gum on her clothes. This was the first time that Aki ever openly expressed how much Himeno means to him. But why was this event the 'trigger' that opened Aki up to Himeno? What was it about seeing Himeno get blamed for her partners death that filled Aki with the desire to come to her defense? That's the question that I address in this video.
My answer explains that Aki is influenced by his childhood, during which Aki was indirectly responsible for his brother's death at the hands of the Gun Devil. Aki sees himself in Himeno, because both are indirectly responsible for the death of people close to them, and this feeling of kinship causes him to come to her aid. And, I propose, this feeling of kinship is also the reason why Aki Hayakawa became so close to Himeno during their time as partners.

I was so upset when Himeno died because we had barely learned anything about her 😭😭 the worst part was I wanted to see her and Aki interact atleast a little more. I love how she went out for him but I hate that she cared so much about him at the same time.
