Full-time scrapper here. This is a good beginner's guide! You'll learn a lot as you go. Been doing this 35 years and still learn a thing or two occasionally!!
As you pointed out, convenience of the scrapyard should not be overlooked. You can call around for prices, but if you've got a scrapyard you drive by anyway, it's probably best to go there. Thanks for the summary.

Working in the scrap metal industry you need to sort it out so the metal yard doesn't have to!!!
