In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Satyam Scandal. In 2009 the chairman of Satyam Computer Services, an IT service company based in Hyderabad, Byrraju Ramalinga Raju, resigned, confessing that he had manipulated the accounts of Rs 7,000 crore in company account books. Ramalinga Raju inflated the revenue of Company by adding false sale invoices to the account books. It resulted into inflated shares of company which Raju started selling in market. After 2008 financial crisis Raju real estate company MAYTAS was in a loss. He tried to cover up the scam by trying to sell MAYTAS to Satyam. But the scam was disclosed by an unknown email to the board of directors. In CBI investigations it was found to be one of India's biggest corporate fraud case where Satyam Computer Services Limited caused loss to the investors of Rs.14,162 crore. what planned MAYTAS is construction company of his son... many people do it to negate badluck by consulting Pandits... just like ORTEM fans... (reverse of METRO) and it worked.. they were the top guys in 90s for ceiling fans after reversing the name.

I was a Satyam employee and this event is still vivid in my memory. A fact, Maytas is reverse of Satyam. The problem started coming out sometime in Nov 2008. I was in US then and I remember how we were giving trust to our customers that we are going to continue working and no problem with our company. Customers were with us as well (if not all). A lot happened in 2009 and I witnessed how govt helped and management kept everyone together. How job portals were crashed because employees were uploading resumes, how a few companies were wary of Satyam employees. Good presentation Nikhil and team!

@Hoomann maytas is construction company raju opened for his son... and he was about to merge the two to nullify the losses... not everyone has long vision.. the investors and directors screwed up... sad to see him going.. he started the company from a garage.... did everything by hook or crook and finally saved the organisation by taking all the blame on himself..
what about world bank project where satyam employees were involved transmitting data to unknown IPs? I think that contract termination triggered the decline...
@@truthprevails4641 I don’t remember that event. But Raju was cooking the books for long. It had to come out in open. You cannot fool all the people all the time!
@@sumitsharma-up5zp actually he could have if board allowed the merger with maytas constructions... he wasnt fooling people.. he was just trying to save all of them... why do you think he didnt fire the employees to save expenses?.. i would always hail for him as he tried his best... simple employees and workers won't understand his intentions... and it worked.. company is alive and he is out of jail.. dont cry on laws and books all the time.. dont forget Satyam adopted countless villages and was top SWITCH organisation of india...
