Hey Nick! Thanks so much for your lovely words. We certainly try but are still very new to RUclips and filming things! It's always difficult in a new location trying to find things fast with the limited time we have, but we try. I hope you enjoy Malta when you go and glad it has given you some insight as to what to expect. PS - Cheese Pastizzi for the win! John & Becky x
Hey Christopher. It was pretty hard as we had less than 48hrs to film 2 vlogs. Had we had a bit more time we could have gone to find the true authentic places, but sadly time was not in our favour. Pastizzi for the win! John & Becky x
We're off to Malta next week for the first time, and stopping in Mellieha. We will be visiting Valletta a couple of times, and looking forward to trying the different foods. We like the idea of that lunch You had with 2 or 3 different things to share, and a couple of drinks for under 10 euro (it might have gone up now though!). Great video and subbed. Cheers......👍
Hey John. Thanks very much! This was one of our first ever vlogs that we did back in the day so we're glad you enjoyed it. If you check out our more recent stuff then you'll notice massive differences as we're always trying to get better, but we still include prices and local things. There's nothing better to us than picking at different food. There may be a slight increase to expect given that this was filmed in mid Nov 21 but on the whole street food stays relatively inexpensive unlike restaurant prices. Pea Pastizzi for the win! Take care and thanks again for watching and supporting us.
Hey Bob. This is one of our very first ever vlogs and we like to think we've improved since. We're glad you enjoyed it though! Thanks for letting us know. John & Becky x
Trendingwwwandw, Thanks for your comment. We love hearing positive feedback as we are still very new to vlogging. Glad you enjoyed it and we hope you will watch more of what we do. John & Becky x
Best Pastizzi are in Medina in Rabat 7 am in the square there is a bakery. Fresh Hobz-Biz-Zejt and Pastizzi warm out the oven and onto your plate. Probably ten times cheaper too, as that looks like a tourist trap. Im'Qaret fig cakes can be bought hot and fresh in the Bieba Tal Valletta entrance to the town, where the busses go round the roundabout there is an Im'Qaret stall. I grew up there in the seventies. Maybe its all gone the places i mention.
Peas and cheese cakes are my absolute favourite. It's Raccota cheese in the cheese one. Very traditional Maltese sandwich. My Dad and brother loved them. It's olive oil, tomato and caper based. No a fan myself but love Maltese bread
Ahhh that explains it! Becky really enjoyed the Ftira but it was huge for her on a lunchtime so we ended up donating the other half of it to a person less fortunate in the park we were eating in. Malta has a good offering overall for snacks.
We'll definitely try find the traditional next time then Jesmond. Thanks very much for watching...even if we don't watch it anymore ourselves as we like to think we've learned a lot of lessons from our early vlogs. Take care 🙂
Hey Stephen! Thanks so much for your message. We certainly have our times but Becky keeps me in check! We hope you enjoy our vlogs and thanks again for taking the time to comment. John & Becky x
Definitely if you try honey rings, try them with coffee or tea, it's kind of a must. But both Kinnie and honey rings are a bitter-sweet flavour that is a rather acquired taste, and the honey ring is not usually eaten as a whole when it's that big either. Honey rings vary from one vender to another, I'm not usually their biggest fan but there are a few vendors that do really good ones, so it's kinda hit or miss with that one :/ For the bigilla (broad bean paste) and crackers, if you come in summer I suggest to get some from a grocer or supermarket and enjoy them near the beach with a couple of beers. They are super cheap and still pretty good :) It's also perfect with some tabasco or red peppers. If you're trying to watch your weight, it's also perfect with sliced carrots, cucumbers and bell peppers ^_^ Update - Chisk Chill now has a 3rd flavour - lime and ginger... I love Chisk Chill!! Also there is a version of the goat cheeselet with basil (there is one with mixed herbs too), basil one is my fav version. And yes, goat cheselet is used more or less like normal cheese, with crackers, bread, I cook with it, use it a lot instead of mozarella cheese, can be placed in salads or obviously in platters :) But I do eat it as a snack just like you did too when I need a boost in salt ^_^
@@blackmoonroze9336 Many thanks for that detailed comment. This was actually our 2nd or 3rd vlog we ever did on the same trip so if you see our latest ones I think you'll notice a difference. We only had 3 days in Malta and found it difficult, hence why a lot of the food is basic. Should we find ourselves back there then we will definitely take your tips. Those honey rings haunted us forever so I very much doubt they'll feature again if we decide to do a remake 😆. Thanks again for your helpful comment and for watching x
Will try to find your other vlogs, it's interesting to see how what we're used to feels like when you taste it for the first time! ^_^ Not going to hold it against you, tbh I am not the biggest fan of honey rings, kinnie or even the date pastries, they also can be kinda bitter-sweet. However, if you love honey and happen to come across a golden honey ring (their filling will be very light colored) do try them, they are delicious and super sweet. Also super rare to find but just in case you happen to come across them, give them a try if you have a hardcore sweet tooth ;) And as I said, never buy a big one as 1 each, even the golden one! hahahaha For 3 days, that was an amazing vlog!! :D
@@blackmoonroze9336 we will definitely keep an eye out. At present we have no further plans to get back to Malta but we never say never. It would be nice to do it some justice as this and the other vlogs in Gdansk, Munich, Budapest and Krakow were filmed all in a 13 night trip and we couldn't edit until we got home. We had no idea about the music choices or really any experience so in ways this vlog shaped us to be what we currently release now. You can find all of our 80-90 worldwide destinations on our channel playlist...and hopefully you'll notice the massive difference 😆
Hello, we didn’t use Uber in Malta. What you can do though if you already have the Uber app is input your pick up/drop off point (just obviously don’t click the request button!) - hopefully this will give you a rough idea :)
@11:58 no,no,no,no! Drinking Kinnie with the honey ring is way out of order. That food calls for a hot beverage. Kinnie served ice cold on a hot summer day or as a cocktail. Try Kinnie, Martini bitters and red Cinzano with a slice of lime. 😋😋
Hey George. It was just a selection of whatever we grabbed from a shop to try one after the other. Will definitely take your recommendation for next time though as it sounds beautiful!
Eating rabbit in valletta is not the best choice, its like eating Taco s in alaska, next time try eating the authentic rabbit in Mgarr where all maltese go to eat rabbit,as far as the st Julians band club, thats where i was born and raised ,thank you for showing
Hey Marty. It was something we struggled to find despite how hard we looked. In order to get it filmed we knew we had to just take any opportunity as we had very little time. We enjoyed it at the band club and spent quite a bit of time there. This was one of our first ever vlogs and seems like a lifetime ago so no doubt things have changed since. Thanks for watching!
@@ParksTravelGuide the band club was,is and will always be our soul ,its what we st julians folk hold so dear to our hearts,i left malta 42 years ago and when i visit its the first place i go,thank you for your vlog ,subscribed
@@martysfluidart I tried messaging them a fair while ago (when this vlog originally came out) but heard rumours the owners at the time have now left and it's become an Italian or something. Thank you for sharing the places you visit to eat.. I am planning a trip to Malta in the coming months and your video was very helpful

Poor Peter rabbit, he clearly went to mr McGregor’s garden.
Yet another very informative Vlog.,
You guys are making me so hungry 😋
Love the guys facial expressions and waving of the fork when it’s good - brilliant!
Thanks for watching Kerry. Happy travels 🙂
I am watching your video from Toronto, Canada. I liked your video.
Thanks very much. This was one of our first ever vlogs. Our latest ones are much better 🙂
You did really well.... I'm Maltese and you did cover pretty much the most notable items to taste.

Excellent job guys great review of Maltese street food
Good morning Tony. What are your most favourite Maltese street food yummies?
I enjoyed your video. Hope to visit soon. Looks great.
Thank you very much. This was only our 2nd or 3rd vlog so we like to think we've come a long way and learnt a lot since that one 🙂
Arriving 3rd June, my 11th visit, so you could say I love the place.
Practically a local! Have a fantastic time 🙂
Headed there May 8th. Cannot wait.
Hope you have a fantastic time!

Agreed, nothing beats fresh crunchy pastizzi!
The pastizz you tried is called pastizz tax-xemgha. It's not the traditional pastizz, which is diamond shaped and has a different type of pastry.

The "sauce" in the bread is tomato concentrate (kunserva).

There are plenty of top restaurants in Malta
Hey Mark. There certainly are but time and budget constraints meant we had to select what we could find at the time. Thanks for watching!

Not chick peas usually capers
Thank you Joseph 🙂
Usually you'll find broad beans not chickpeas in the ftira. Kinnie is best served very cold with a slice if orange .
