    Is it possible to use autofocus (with a usm lens for example) with the speedbooster?

    I have a doubt If you fit Speedbooster you can use lens with more light but for video it's crazy to focus with f1.8 or less. Any advice? Using external light or put iso higher but it generes grain...

    Your metabones adapter is the Nikon version. It is cheaper than the Canon one but will it give you the same f stop increase and crop factor as the Canon one?

  • @yuan-jia
    @yuan-jia 8 лет назад +3

    People need to understand the lens doesn't become a f1.2 because you put some sort of glass in between the lens and the sensor. It just becomes a f1.8 lens "again".
    Because when you put a 50mm f1.8 on a MFT camera you don't get a 100mm f1.8 look, you get a 100mm f2.5 look. So putting this glass in between just gives you back the look AND the light of a 50mm f1.8.

  • @Zahhm
    @Zahhm 10 лет назад

    Not sure if you're aware but crop factor affects both focal length and aperture. The speedbooster allows the MFT sensor to see the 50 1.8 as it is. It is not physically possible for the 50 1.8 to become a 50 1.2 just because of the adapter. Focal length and aperture must be balanced or else you break math.

    Hello nice vid! I think though that possibly your calculations are incorrect, but please correct me if I am looking at this the wrong way. You state the 50mm 1.8 becomes a FF equivalent of an 82mm f1.2 with the Speedbooster. However I believe in reality it becomes a FF equivalent of an 82mm f2.8
    With just a regular adapter the 50mm f1.8 is equivalent to a 115mm f4 - you have to apply the crop to the aperture as well. The Speedbooster reduces the crop by .71 (and thus increases the aperture) - the marketing for the SB seems to indicate it does two separate things (widens FOV and increases aperture) when the one is actually the result of the other.
    So when you apply the .71 increase to the the lenses FF equivalent (115mm f4), you get 82mm f2.8 - and a MFT equivalent to this lens is a 35mm f1.2

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      Voyager you are so right! I'm sorry If I said it incorrectly I just meant the focal length equivalent FOV equivalent, not DOF equivalent. Thank you for clearing it up!

    • @VoyagerVideoLLC
      @VoyagerVideoLLC 10 лет назад +1

      Max Yuryev Sure thing! Also, I find it easier to deal with Super-35 equivalents instead of FF equivalents, especially when using a Speedbooster as the sensor is now roughly the same size as S-35. If you're using a S-35 camera, the standard lenses used are 24, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100, etc. So a 35mm or 50mm lens would be used for a normal angle, and these have a 50mm and 75mm FF equivalent but that's kind of irrelevant... the DSLR revolution has made things more confusing than they have to be.
      So ultimately, the 50mm f1.8 with the Speedbooster is about the same as using an 50mm f1.8 lens on a Super-35mm camera. Without the SB, it's like using a 75mm f2.8 on a Super-35 camera.

    I have Panasonic GH4. I use 3 Voigtlander MFT lenses with it. I also have vintage Prime lenses like the Nikon Nikkor 50mm F/1.8, Pentax SMC 50mm F/1.2, 50mm F/1.7, then Olympus Zuiko 50mm F/1.8, 35mm F/2, 28mm F/2.8, 100mm F/2.8, 135mm F/3.5, and 35 to 70mm F4 Zoom. I don't know which Metabones adaptor to purchase due to the wide variety of lenses I use. Any suggestions?

    Hello, excellent review. But i'm a little confused. So this means if I use a canon lens 50mm with the adapter it will be actually 80ish mm?..If I record video in 4K it will be the same crop results as if in FULL HD?..I saw you used a 50 mm nikkor and it looks wider with the adapter, but for what I searched on line, or for what you said at the beginning of the video, it shouldn't be wider, (50mm to 80ish mm). I would apreciate your answer..And also, will it be the same with the "S"version?

    I purchased the Metabones Canon EF/ Micro 4/3 Speed Booster XL-BL from B&H Photo in April of 2016. My application was using the Panasonic GH-4 and the Speed Booster with the many Canon lenses I had accumulated. The unit worked well most of the time, but the GH-4 would occasionally show the “Lens attachment failed” error screen when I attached a different lens. I thought it was the lens choice, but noticed that all but one of the lenses I had were original Canon units. On 09/29/2016 the GH-4 firmware was updated to version V25 and the Speed Booster interface problem began to occur much more frequently. I continued to think it may have been due to my inexperience with the GH-4 camera functions, so I tried to learn about and attempt almost every combination of camera and lens settings. Nothing worked. On 12/07/2016 the Speed Booster firmware was updated to version V2.5, and on 12/08/2016 the GH-4 firmware was again updated to version V26. Now EVERY lens I try to attach gives the same attachment failure error message. I can only use the combination if I place the lens inside the Speed Booster mount but only turn enough to secure it without actually connecting the contacts of the lens and the Speed Booster. Of course this won’t allow any lens communication with the camera, but will still allow the use of the lens as a completely manual unit. I have tried both the Green Power-Save mode (default) and the Advanced Manual Focus mode on the Speed Booster and I still get the same results. I find it almost unbearable that I purchased this unit mainly for the ability to use my Canon lenses on the GH-4 like I use them on my Canon bodies, i.e. with full control of the lens focus functions. I can’t believe a $650 unit designed to do this, heralded as the best unit of its type available in the marketplace, only lasted for a few months before failing completely. Of course I am beyond the 30 day period usually given for a return window. I could never give this unit more than one star, and would seriously love to give it much less than one star, if that were possible. I have never been as disappointed with a seemingly serious photography product as I have been with this Metabones unit.

      UPDATE: I obtained the information I needed to possibly get the unit repaired on 12/27/2016 and sent the Speed Booster to Hong Kong for repair (as is required by Metabones). I was required to pay the cost to ship there and back, along with any other custom fees for international shipping. I had no claim number and no guarantee that the repair will be accepted as a warranty covered item.
      I received the “repaired” Metabones Speed Booster back from Hong Kong on Monday (01/16/2017) along with the return documents. The unit was unpacked, removed from the plastic storage container, and immediately mounted on my Panasonic GH4 camera body. I then attempted to mount three Canon lenses in succession on the adapter- (EF 17-40mm f/4L, EF 24-105mm f/4L, and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L). Each lens I mounted failed any identification and acceptance by the GH4 camera. In other words, the Metabones unit was acting the same as before the repair process. I then decided to eliminate any possibility that my camera body was at fault by arranging a test protocol with a local camera dealer here in town. I took the Metabones Speed Booster, along with my camera bodies and lenses, to the camera shop for bench testing. When I arrived and discussed the issue with the store owner, he suggested I first attempt to mount the Speed Booster on two new camera bodies and witness the results before any bench testing was done. We mounted the Metabones unit on a new Olympus E-M1 Mark II camera body, attached an EF lens, and turned the camera on. The Olympus camera failed to accept or even recognize the lens and would not allow light to pass through the Speed Booster, and into the camera. We then tried two other Canon lenses, only to get the same results. Next we unboxed a brand new Panasonic GH4 body and tried the same procedure, only to get the “lens attachment failure” screen each time a lens was attached to the Speed Booster. At this point we were convinced the problem was the Speed Booster.
      My cost to send the unit to Hong Kong and back for repair was over $60. This means I’ve spent over $700 for a unit that does not work, even after an attempted repair. I can’t tell you how demoralizing this is.

      @kuntaleroy7414 7 лет назад

      FINAL UPDATE: I received a replacement Metabones Speed Booster from B&H Photo today as a solution to this problem. Of course I was anxious to mount the adapter on my GH4 camera body and start the testing, and that’s exactly what I did. The adapter was initially mounted on the camera body and the camera was turned on. The first lens I mounted was the EF 17-40mm f/4L and immediately the mount worked. The GH4 accepted the lens and was fast and accurate in processing focus info from lens to camera to lens. The Speed Booster and lens combo also resulted in an apparent 1.5 stop increase in the lens aperture, allowing me to shoot 4K video inside my home office under relatively low light (1 small lamp) at 1600 ISO and get excellent perfectly usable footage. Next I mounted the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L mainly to test the autofocus accuracy and the GH4 / EF lens response speed. The combination worked flawlessly with fast accurate focusing even in that low-light situation. I dare say even new Lumix lenses equipped with internal memory of bokeh files to use with the GH4’s new DFD focusing technology would, at best, produce only minimal increase in this focusing speed. This is, of course, what makes all the hassle I went through worth it. Thanks B&H!

    Just watched your video and it looks like the speedboster is a real piece of nice equipment!
    I'm looking to buy a GH4. I've used a Canon EOS 550D and a Sony RX100M2 in the past. I have no lenses anymore, so what brand of lenses would you suggest using on the GH4 with the speedbooster? I will primarily use it for video and then some stills. Maybe 80% video and 20% stills. The ones you suggest in this video does not have stabilization on them. Doesen't that make shooting video a bit hard?
    I'm thinking two or three lenses; wide, medium and tele.

    As far as the shots of the bridge with and without the speed booster, was there a difference in white balance, or does the speed booster add a green cast? I thought the greenish hue of the concrete really jumped out in those shots, but I figure it was a white balance adjustment somewhere along the way, like maybe you shot with the speed booster first, and then realized you needed to white balance when you were switching to the regular adapter or something...?

    • @MaksimYuryev

    We're those tests shot in 4K? as far as I understand the speed booster doesn't do much for the gh4s 4K and actually Doesn't affect aperture at all in that 1:1 crop mode. However, for 1080 video it makes it a super 35mm sensor. That's why most people are going with the bmcc version even though it can break the gh4s shutter. I'm torn on which one to buy! Plus there is a rumor going around that metabones is going to release one specifically for the gh4

    Hey this might seem like a stupid question. But if you attached the speed booster to a GH4, can you still use a MFT lens while the speed booster is attached on just to get more light and wider shots with the MFT lenses. Or is it strictly e-mount lenses with the speed booster?

  • @pathosmovies
    @pathosmovies 9 лет назад

    guys, speed booster does not affect DoF and the aperture is not affected by crop. The Speedbooster does nothing more than capturing a picture of a bigger image circle and projects it to a smaller image circle. Like a magnifing glass bunches the sunlight in one point. Thats why "aperture" is increased.

  • @TheBrightPixel
    @TheBrightPixel 9 лет назад

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you aren't quite right on the math there. When you put a lens on a MFT sensor you actually lose a whole stop of light due to the crop. For example if you put an f1.5 Cine lens on a GH4, it actually becomes an f3.0 lens. So putting the speedbooster on only regains some (not even all) of that loss. So actually you're lens only ends up slightly slower rather than 1 full stop slower - and not actually faster than the rating on the lens at all. And you still don't get quite as much DOF as the same lens on a full frame camera. No?
    I'm not saying that they're not good - just saying that they're not as good as the numbers everybody seems to think they are.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  9 лет назад

      The Bright Pixel Well it really depends on what your thinking about. If your using the F-stop to guage DOF then yes your right, but if your using for the amount of light that is hitting the sensor (relative to sensor size) then it still works out the same way. A F2.8 M43 lens at iso 200 will expose the same as a F2.8 lens on a full frame at iso200 but of course the DOF will be different. I'm using the numbers to calculate exposure not DOF.

    • @TheBrightPixel
      @TheBrightPixel 9 лет назад

      Max Yuryev Yep, got it. Thanks for the clarification. It's a tricky business :)
      And really a LOT of people are not aware of the DOF loss with the crop sensor. Many tutorials just don't even mention it (like yours for example)

  • @mgoldermann
    @mgoldermann 8 лет назад

    There seems to be a common misconception with how Speeboosters affect DOF. Granted, Speedboosters add an extra stop of light to taking lenses (so to say, but not really), but the primary contributor to the increase in the shallowness of the DOF is the increase in FOV. For example, with a 50mm Nikon lens and a 50mm MFT lens, both shooting in the exact same lighting conditions, the MFT lens will have to be further away from the subject to achieve the same composition as the 50mm Nikon lens, whereas the 50mm Nikon lens is able to achieve the same composition much closer to the subject, which further separates the subject from the background.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  8 лет назад

      +Michael Goldermann I totally agree, I don't go into detail how this works as it causes more confusion anytime I bring this up (with most people) easier just to say it allows a shallower DOF.

    To be honest I just use the Panasonic 25mm f1.4 on my G6 (for 1080p) which is a killer lens. Or if you want to go wider, maybe the 20mm f1.7 would be good, no adapters needed (albeit you are not gaining 1 extra stop).

    Curious about the GH5 and Speedbooster compatibility. Since the GH5 doesn't shoot "crop" when in 4K like the GH4 did, which Speedbooster would be more appropriate for Canon lenses on the GH5? The XL or Ultra (or neither)?

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  7 лет назад

      My guess would be the ultra would be the best choice, since XL is designed for the Gh4's 4K crop mode. We'll only know for sure when someone can test this with a variety of lenses.

    Hi Max, Thanks for the very useful video. However at 4:14 you say the speedbooster helps give you a narrower depth of field, and this isn't the case. Until I researched it more deeply, I assumed that going from 1.8 to 1.2 using a speedbooster would narrow the DOF but it doesn't in this case as the DOF is an attribute of the lens. The extra stop is very useful for low-light shooting though :)

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      Thanks Gary! you are totally correct. I was under the same impression when reading up on it but now I understand how they meant it. If the lens is wider you can come in closer which will in turn give you shallower DOF. If you need the lens to be wider to get your shot and you stay in yhe same position it wont be shallower dof just a wider shot.

      Hi Wiebe, Yes you will still have those functions with a cheap adapter, and if your using fast rokinon manual lenses a cheap adapter should work fine. If you want to get a speedbooster like I have for lens suggestions I would say Tamron 11-16 2.8 and Sigma 18-35 1.8 if you shoot wide, or if you shoot long get a Sigma 18-35 1.8 with Rokinon 50 or 85mm prime.

    I thought the mft crop factor was 2.0, so wouldn't that make a 50mm lense appear to have a 100mm focal length and not 115mm on the gh4? Am I missing something? I'm kind of new to this

    • @MaksimYuryev

      in 4K video mods it's slightly more crop. (2.3) than in photo or 1080P video mode.

    Are there any speedboosters for MFT lenses instead of EF and nikkor?

  • @thisisclaire5860
    @thisisclaire5860 9 лет назад

    I'm confused. When you put the speed booster onto a MFT camera (GH4) can you still use a MFT lens? Or do you need an EF/FF lens?

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  9 лет назад

      +thisisclaire Yes you need to use an EF lens. Thats how it takes the larger image from the larger lens and "scaled it down" to provide more light to the sensor.

    Hey max, been watching your video for a while, great stuff btw man. So I got a gh4 a few months ago with an olympus 12-40mm and every now and again when I power on the camera it tells me 'lens attachment failed'. I'm trying to figure out if it's the lens or the camera having problems and how to fix it. If you have any advice I'd love to hear it.

      Hi Spencer. Do you have any other lenses to test it with? It's really hard to know. You should join the GH4 user group on facebook (almost 4000 members now) and ask if anyone has had a similar issue.

    So no AF with the adapter ? which is fine in video but I wish there was a speed booster with electronics so it would retain AF - as my eyesight is not good enough for focus peeking

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      The Nikon to M43 speed booster is completely manual. The Canon EF to M43 speedbooster does have electronics, but at this time it is only showing aperture in camera and enabling the Image Stabilization to work. There is a good chance they may be able to get autofocus working in the future with a firmware update. The Canon EF to Sony E mount speedbooster does have autofocus but its quite a bit slower than using native sony lenses so that may also be the case if they get it working on the GH4.

      At the time I ordered it no one had yet tested that one on the gh4, and while it does work it leaves a "ring" on your shutter. There is some risk of breaking something if you don't have it set to electronic shutter. I may go for it in the future we will see :)

      amzn.to/1hUlA5i it is this one but I wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't have aperture control. I would suggest the regular metabones adapter that doesn't have the speed booster element in it. Its about $140 and has the de-clicked aperture and is very good quality. amzn.to/1ltBQsU

    Thanks for the video. I was curious about one thing. So in determining the actual focal length, you are multiplying the sensor's crop factor of 2.3 x focal length (50 mm), to get 115 mm, then multiplying by the focal reduction of the booster, .70, to get 80mm. Is that correct? Now if someone was using a DOF calculator to assess hyperfocal distance or something like that, they would plug in 80mm for the focal length, correct? It is all just a little confusing. Thanks!!!

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  7 лет назад

      +Flying High that would be tough. I think you would use the focal length of the lens the way it is the the sensor size after being converted. If you have the speed booster XL I would do a 1.5 crop so use a Sony a6000 of something, but if you have the regular SB like I do you would be at 1.7 or so equivalent. I know Canon crop sensors are 1.6 not sure if there is a sensor that's 1.7.

    • @patrickfitzgerald2861
      @patrickfitzgerald2861 7 лет назад +1

      It doesn't matter how you arrange the math in the calculation: Focal length (mm) x Speed Booster reverse crop factor (.71 in this case) x sensor crop factor (APS-C: 1.5, Canon APS-C: 1.6, MFT: 2, or 2.3 in GH4 4K). So: 50mm x .71 x 2 (MFT) = 71mm FF equivalent field of view. You use the same calculation to determine FF equivalent depth of field, except you substitute aperture for focal length: f/1.8 x .71 x 2 (MFT) = 2.556 FF equivalent for DOF purposes. You leave out the crop factor multiplier only when calculating the boosted aperture: f/1.8 x .71 = f/1.278. Hope this helps.

    I'm taking mostly photos (not video) on Olympus E-M1: are there any comparison shots between E-M1 + Speedbooster + Tokina 12-24/4 or 11-16/2.8 versus E-M1 with the micro43 lenses Olympus 9-18/4-5.6 or Panasonic 7-14/4? Because I come from Nikon DX (APS-C) to mFT I already have the Tokina 12-24/4. It would be much bigger and heavier than the two native mFT lenses, but I'd only need to buy the Speedbooster. Is the image quality of one of the Tokinas plus Speedbooster in the same league as the two mFT lenses, or better or worse? There'll also be that proposed Olympus 7-14/2.8, but a) it's not yet out and my vacation starts soon, and b) it'll probably be quite expensive. I couldn't find real comparisons with example images anywhere.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  9 лет назад

      Willi Adriani I doubt you'll find those comparison. Not very many people use the SB for the Olympus cams, and its mainly used for photo. The M/43 lenses are really sharp so i'd say most likey that would give you better image quality than using a SB and Nikon glass. If its not better it would be even. Keep in mind with a MB-SB you won't have autofocus.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      Hey Germain! It was the gh4 with 4k! I dont know if youtube compression will add any moire? The speedbooster had been noted to add a very slight amount of moire as well. I honestly didn't notice it until you said it, (and you mean on my shirt right?) This shirt also moires like crazy with regular cameras! Check out this vid where I wear the same shirt using a typical canono crop sensor (horrible) Part 2 - 2013 New Mac Pro vs Custom Build PORTABLE PC " The Mac Pro Killer " - The Build - U3 TITAN

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      Also something I noticed that when you view 4k on a smaller than 4k screen it introduces moire as well because of the not very good algorithms. If I view the video in the 4k setting full screen on my 1080p monitor the moire is very slight, I almost don't even see it, but if I have it not in full screen mode there is a crazy amount! I think thats just how youtube scales it.

    Hey Max,
    Was wondering if you could tell me what the exact focal length is on your GH4 when you have the Metabones speed booster on with the tokina 11-16mm. I have been looking everywhere but can't seem to find the answer. Keep on the good videos, I enjoy them soo much.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      Thanks Jack! I'll explain the way to find the focal length just in case you want to find out other lenses on the booster. The speedbooster makes lenses 0.71 wider, so 11mm x 0.71 = 7.81 . Now you introduce the sensors crop factor. If your shooting 1080p its 2 if shooting 4k its 2.3 . So take 7.81x2.3= 17.96mm on the wide end (11mm) so same for 16mm. 16x0.71x2.3=26.1mm . Tokina 11-16 on a speedbooster with gh4 shooting 4k is equil to 17.96mm-26.1mm full frame equivalent. If your shooting 1080p or photos you have 15.62mm-22.72mm. I hope that helps!

      ShadowE Media Yes that is for Nikon "F" which are the old manual lenses that have aperture built in. Its the same mount as the new "G" so your Sigma 18-35 1.8 G lens fits but the "G" lenses don't have manual aperture you need an aperture bar to adjust it. I have one of those adapters as well but it's only good for manual lenses. This is what you need to be able to control your aperture goo.gl/MtpqGb ( I have one of these as well) or if you want the speedbooster that I talk about in this video it's here: goo.gl/ysz2o9

      It seems that you will need to use some kind of external recorder and then go into the camera as the ntg2 need phantom power. The cheepest method I can think of is use the Tascam DR40 and use the headphone jack to go into the camera. Or you could sync in post, but in would look into that more. amzn.to/1hLdndE amzn.to/1oNVGyY another good option is to get the powered rode videomic pro and use that for regular shooting when you don't want to deal with exra recorders, but when you want the beat sound go with the full setup amzn.to/QHXe1m

      Hi there. The Metabones speedbooster only work by taking a lens designed for a larger sensor and magnifying the light down, so you can do micro 4/3 to micro 4/3, It needs to be a Nikon or Canon lens to M43. As far as image stabilization for the most part you have to get a lens that has IS, but there are some olympus camera bodies that have image stabilization built into the camera body. Hope that helps!

      planet-earth123 Thanks! the speedbooster is a good investment if you want to use multiple lenses with it, but if your buying it just for one lens it may not be worth it. This is a great native lens but its not as fast as the SB+11-16 setup amzn.to/1ySq40e . If you want to go with what I have, use my speedbooster link above to get that and then pair it with this lens: amzn.to/10ghr3f You get same zoom range as that panasonic lens but its F2 instead of F4

    nice review.. but couple of wrong info.. it will not become f1.2 FOV (50/1.8 + speedbooster).. the light transmission is correct (1.8 x 0.7 = 1.26).. it will not have have depth of field of f1.2 from a fullframe camera equivalent.. you need to multiply with the sensor size also which is 2x crop (gh4).. 1.26 x 2 = f2.52.. so micro4/3 + speedbooster + nikkor 50/1.8.. you will get an equivalent lens of 70mm f2.5.. there is a lot of other alternative, to name a few.. zhongyi lensturbo, kipon baveyes

      Thanks for your comment. As far as the aperture in dont think I said or I didn't think I meant to say a F1.2 dept of field full frame eqiv because of course the smaller sensor has way more in focus. Just the f stop becoming F1.2 as far as light transmission when compared to the F1.8 (All for the M43 eqiv not full frame) because the lenses are still rated at same fstop as far as light transmission that the sensor will use correct? I'm aware that F2.8on m43 will be like F5.6 on full frame when comparing dept of field, not the exposure of the image. Hope I explained myself well!

    Well as this video and the products are so old, I know it is unlikely I will get a quick response here if at all, but here goes.
    So I have a GH4 and finally got the speedbooster in the mail yesterday so I can use my Canon & Sigma lenses. I am hoping that I am just doing something very noob style as there is no way this issue can exist after so long.
    But when I try to use the camera, the autofocus just keeps going crazy, it won't lock. And even if it gets (somewhat) locked in on an object it will then just flicker the focus and the lens will just stutter ultra fast.
    Obviously this only happens in auto focus. Is a setting on the camera in need of an adjustment, or have I just received a faulty unit>?
    Thanks

      Hey! Idk if its faulty but the GH4 is bad at autofocus even with factory lenses so you basically need to use MF.

    first off great vid.. right now i have a G6 that i use with a kit lens and a fd speed booster with some vintage primes. i'm thinking i'm going to get the the new EF speed booster. the main reason for this is to gain IS. my only concern is, i really like the sigma 17-50 but im not sure if the 1.4 crop factor will cause the corners to clip/vignette seeing is is designed for a 1.5 crop camera? i know that on the gh4 in 4k this wouldn't be a problem, but do you know if shooting in 1080 it causes problems?

      @MaksimYuryev  10 лет назад

      Hi Dan, I tried it with my Tamron 17-50 2.8 and is very slight vignette when shooting photos at 3:2 or 4:3 formats but not when shooting in 16:9 / 1080P (maybe very very slight amount) but I'll let you be the judge. Here is a link to test photos of me shooting at a white wall, both @ 17mm and 50mm. In each focal length photos with 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9. This is at the 2x crop or 1.4 like you said using speedbooster, of course if you'll be shooting 4k it will be more cropped in. goo.gl/tY920O
      I know this is not the Sigma 17-50 version but my guess is it will be a similar result. The Tamron is also a great lens and from what I remember when researching it has slightly better image stabilization but its louder than the Sigma version. I've had both the Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC and Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS in EF mount, but at different times so I can't compare them side by side, and at this time I have a Tamron 17-50 2.8 w/o VC for my Nikon speedbooster. Hope that helps!

    Is there any other adapter apart from metabones which goes with all the lenses.

      +Yankeet ronaldo Yes, just search for a standard Micro 4/3 adapter. Nikon or Canon.
      Check out my page for 4K GH4 videos.

    Hi Max, very nice channel you got. I have some questions that you hopefully will answer. I am a noob music video maker that is getting excited about the GH4 and its capability to 96fps in1080p, but I am looking for some cheaper lens options as the Sigma instead of Canon wich i kind of like. Which Speedbooster will I need to mount these lenses, and is all these types of lenses mountable to the GH4?
    Sigma 50mm F2.8 EX DG Macro or 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro
    Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM
    Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HS
    Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM APO
    As I wrote before, I am going for music videos and I am pretty noob at lenses/mounts etc. Am I missing something that would benefit my musicvideo shooting? Also I am pretty confused about what lens to use for full body footage with depth of field backgrounds, I have used a Canon 550D with Canons 50mm 1.4f lens, but its best when shooting upperbody footage. I hope that you can give me some advice as there is so little knowledge about music videos out there. type of music videos is typical EDM music.

      Hi Darwich! Thanks for the kind words! right from the start the 96fps mode in the gh4 doesn't record audio ( will be harder to sync up your music vid) and also is less sharp/detailed than the other modes. I have 2 short parkour vids on my channel all shot with 96fps.
      Are you wanting to use Nikon lenses with the GH4 or Canon? If using Nikon the speedbooster I linked to in the description should work well! If you want to keep canon lenses there really isn't anything as good as the speedbooster yet. There are a couple of cheap adapters but you won't be able to control the in lens aperture. I think the best bet is to sell all your canon and start from scratch (that's what I did)
      As far as lenses are you looking for shallow dept of field? its easy to achieve when the lens is long ( like the 501.8) but the wider the lens is the more is in focus. I think the widest lens to shallow DOF ratio would be the 24mm 1.4. The cheapest one is the Rokinon amzn.to/1rJ5j7g . Anything wider becomes a 2.8 . There is also the 35mm 1.4 Rokinon at lower price amzn.to/1kuXq0d
      For music video I don't think you need a very telephoto lens because you can adjust yourself its not like its live work ( unless you are doing that ) but all the lenses you typed out will work with the speedbooster and GH4!

    This isn't really like having two great lenses. It's more like getting one really sharp lens, and one not so sharp lens. The focal reduction actually sharpens the image more, as you're essentially reducing the entire field of view down onto the smaller sensor (a bit like downconverting). The normal adapter will still make the sensor crop into a small section of the lens, which isn't as sharp.

    is Metabone use only for GH4 or can use other camera? like Sony A7s2?

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  8 лет назад

      A7s2 is a full frame so no you can't or it wouldn't make sense. If you have the a6300 or a7Rii shooting in super35 then it would be useful.
