  • The UNESCO World Heritage site of Kronborg Castle guards a narrow sound between Denmark and Sweden, and sits about an hour to the north of Copenhagen. It was built when the Danish crown controlled southern Sweden, and was intended to control and tax ships moving in and out of the busy Baltic Sea. It made the crown very wealthy, and allowed them to embellish the castle into a beautiful Renaissance palace. Although it later fell into disuse, it's still famous as the likely setting of Shakespeare's greatest play, Hamlet.

I remember coming here with my class in 5th grade. Absolutely wonderful!
I got shivers down my spine just looking at the old paintings and furniture.

It's quite an interesting country, the mainland is very different to the Copenhagen islands area - well worth a look!

There were some actors rehearsing in the courtyard at one point, though I chose not to film them as they were professionals rehearsing, not performing for us :)

We've never been to Denmark which is a shame considering how close it is to us. Didn't realise how narrow the channel is and how close it is to Sweden.

It's a lovely country, although very expensive! Copenhagen's a great city and well worth a few days - this is only an hour or so north on the train.

Kronborg Castle has such an interesting history. What other castles were a toll booth and the setting for Hamlet? :)
