Heya! I'm the main sprite artist on Vinemon, so thank you very much for the shoutout! We've worked hard to pack the game full of personality. It may look a little plain at the start, but there are a lot of unique designs and locations to see over the course of the game. Even if you're not familiar with Vinesauce, we made sure that it's still fun to play if you don't get all the references.
I promise it definitely doesn't look plain from the start. You can immediately tell just from the first cutscene how much effort was put into the game to make it feel unique
As somebody who designed 5 'Mons for Vinemon and loves the game to absolute bits, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!! I really want more people out there to experience its wild polish and creativity, and this'll help a ton! The functioning PvP eagerly awaits new blood to test out these wild meme teams!
I’ve been playing Ashen Frost since this video came out. I have 60 hours in and still not done with the story. By far the best game I’ve played. Thanks for the rec!
sunk into ashen frost a few days ago. And especially the city setting and the genuine humorous writing makes it one of the best games i have ever played
Vinemon does so much more then being a funny streamer fan game. It's a genuinely great Pokémon fan game with solid writing, (even if it is mostly memes). Sure, a lot of the stuff in the game you can only really understand by watching Vinesauce streams. But even then it's just a really well designed (If a bit of a grind at the late game point) Pokémon experience.
It kinda stinks that Ashen Frost gives you a buffed version of Delibird as a starter, giving the perfect opportunity to use one on a playthrough for the first time...only to give you a very plot-important Swinub at the start of the second case you're encouraged to use, and actively helps you hunt for clues. I got partway through the third case but stopped for...admittedly a bit of a petty reason...see, there's this maze puzzle you have to solve for a side quest, and completing it within the very strict time limit nets you a fossil...except the hallways are invisible. As a matter of pride, I wouldn't continue until I could save the woman inside AND get that fossil, (the entry fee isn't exactly cheap) so I've been sitting there for six months now, hoping to god someone just a map up online and frees me from the labyrinth I've trapped myself in
check the bottom of the description there is a list of links. Also all of the download links for the fangames on RC can be from in their discord and through the wayback machine
As a long time Pokemon Ashen Frost fan (back from when it was still Pokemon Present even) seeing someone finally give this fangame some of the praise it deserves is an utter delight
I think it's definitely worth the investment, there are at least 100 good quality fan games you can enjoy, and it's one of the main reasons I bought myself a computer many years ago. Plus the system requirements are relatively low, so you wont need to drop a ton of money on a really good one either.
pokemon ashen forest is criminally underrated for some reason none of the bigger pokemon fangame youtuber play it(or i just never seen anyone big play it lol) it really good my only gribs with it is money can be tight at times another thing about it is i actallly like the side quest i usually skip those in any game.
These are really cool recomendations, will definitely check them out 0:46 - 0:51 I am a bit curious about which fangame this quick clip of playthrough was from, if anyone could point me in the right direction to look that would be cool :>
@@ayrei1503 I meant the game with the pink hair female mc, I've already played Vanguard since act 1 and replaying for act 3; the new artstyle and map changes really make the game feel alot more polished.
Rejuvenation (the pokemon game you had in clips sometimes) has a story that took me around.. 150 hours to complete? (although its usually 90-100), and has two routes. really good game, would recommend
I despise leveling/grind skip. It takes my motivation completely away. I appreciate the video anyway and I'll be sure to try out Vinemon (I love Joel) and Abstract.
Like, you enjoy grinding in Pokemon? If that's what you meant, then uh.... well... to each their own... I guess....... But you can also just choose not to use those features in these games
@@ayrei1503 In moderation, yes. If the feature is there I'll use it, would be stupid not to. (I have no self restraint and yes, that is totally a me problem)
I think the first and last game aren't given a chance by most because of their concept. I have no desire to play as a detective or in a decaying world that is about to completely fall apart in a Pokémon Fangame. Most people that seek out fangames are on the hunt for "comfort food". If you come with a vastly different concept these people will shrug and look for something else to play instead. That's why Crystal Clear, Emerald ROWE, AlteRed, GS Chronicles etc. are so vastly successful. They take beloved classics and improve upon them without forgetting themselves and mutate into something that barely resembles a Pokémon Game or just become a Boss Rush. The latter is why I stopped enjoying Radical Red eventually. If I want to play competetive I just load up Showdown or ask online thank you very much. I will check out Abstract though. As a long time Zeldafan I love semi-open worlds. Also: Go to the snowy area first? Hell yeah, sign me up! I also really enjoyed my first scaling Pokémon Game Inclement Emerald so I have high hopes for it. That IE is the "comfort food" I seek in the case of fanmade games and has amazing resources within it's download file had a big part of it of course, but Abstract looks like an interestikg new place to explore. Which were the most exciting in Inclement after all.
Cool stuff but personally I stick to ROM hacks that I can play on original hardware. The fan games are stuck on PC (and Mac??) which doesn't work for me.
Thank you so much for checking out Vinemon! We have a vibrant online community so be sure to battle and trade to your hearts content!

Thanks for shouting out Abstract! :D All of the games in this video are really cool! I really hope all of them grow in popularity!
Oh no, we live in a time where internet people have never heard of Vinny, we're getting old
Never too late to start
I only know of Vinny because of Joel xD
@@Alcathr Wdym they're the same person

Are you ready to be bloodied and bruised?
Great underrated picks! Played 30+ fangames and never heard of 4/5 of these so you've picked some hidden gems

You caught my interest with the intro, definitely knew my exact thoughts when searching for a new fangame to play. Will be giving them a shot.
I'll put them in my list. I've definitely haven't heard of any of these besides the popular ones you mentioned. Salt & Shadow sounds very intriguing.
I really love Salt and Shadow. It makes me play Pokémon in a completely new way than I typically do
Any time vinemon gets a shout out is a great time, the devs are awesome, the game has SO MUCH love put into it, i also cant recommend it enough!!

Very well presented video and as a creator of one of those four videos at the start, I can't agree with you more.
BTW I love your style of videomaking
Thank you so much! This is the style I'm going to stick to going forward, so stick around if it interests you!

Finally! Pokemon fan games that offer unique twists and novel gameplay. I've been looking for those

Watching all the way from Costa Rica, love your fangame! Keep it going, best of lucks! Pura vida!
you got my subscription! thanks for covering some lesser heard of fangames for me to try!
These actually seem really good and unique! I'll definitely be checking them out.
Highly recommend checking out Vinemon's multiplayer scene as well, it has functioning PvP and trading!

it was hard, but believe me the puzzle is worth ignoring :D
@29centbierprinzessin46 Oh yeah, I know that. It's just a matter of principle at this point
Thanks! I've been trying to find some new ones for ages!
A bit sad that I can't download Salt & Shadows though, it was on RC

Dope video as always!
Ashen frost is so good, it's my 2nd favorite fangame ever and i've played quite a few
This was exactly the video I needed. Thank you!
Thank you for this great list!
What's the name of the Pokémon fan game in the video with the protagonist that has blond hair?
Vanguard, major update releasing May 24th

Thats Pokemon Rejuvenation, its really good, but isnt complete yet. I think theres still 3 or 4 gyms left for them to add (out of 18 total gyms)
what pokemon rom are you playing here 1:04?
"I know you're ready to put the video down and immediately download the first game I talked about" dont call me out like this!
What is the game called at the very end of the video’s outro?
I'm a simple guy. I see Scoot from Animal Crossing, I click.
Ashen Frost is amazing, I definitely recommend it! The humour is great and the story is great.

What about to play Pokémon damask fan game on game jolt to have preview
Desolation and Genesis is great too
They sound interesting
They sure do, you should check them out!
what's the game you were playing in the intro? was expecting it to be on this list, and I don't recognize it
What fangame are you showing in the intro and outro, where the trainer has blond hair?
Vanguard
What are the 2 games shown in the conclusion? The one with pink grass and the one with the blonde boy... Sick artstyle!
The one with the blond boy is his fan game, it's called project vanguard
